Lamest Spin Ever: Michelle Antoinette Took Lavish Spain Vacation Because Her Friend's Father Died or Something

Show me the death certificate and I might--might--take this lame-assed spin seriously for a second or two. Obviously the damage is done and the toothpaste can't be shoved back in the tube, and it's incredibly disingenuous to exploit an alleged death to undo some of the damage done to the Obama image.
So why did Mrs. Obama go to Spain at this time? She's not tone-deaf politically. What was behind the "mother-daughter" vacation?

A White House source told me that Blanchard's father passed away and Mrs. Obama was not able to make the funeral at the beginning of July. Blanchard had promised her daughter she would take her to Spain for her birthday. She asked Mrs. Obama and Sasha to come with. (Malia is at overnight camp.)

"She felt it was important as a dear friend to do this," I was told.

How did they end up at the five star Villa Padierna, part of the Ritz-Carlton chain? Because of security concerns, there were just some places they could not go. Agents were able to secure Villa Padierna and the nearby beach area.
Why couldn't she make the funeral in July? Was she already on another vacation back then? How about visiting her wherever she lives for some comforting rather than jet across the Atlantic on the taxpayer dime?

By the way, Blanchard is now married to this guy, but apparently kept her maiden name. While the latest spin doesn't indicate where Blanchard's father lived, a search at the Chicago Tribune and Sun-Times doesn't show any men named Blanchard passing away recently.

Ace takes it up a few notches. Thanks for the link!
