According to veterans of the Games, the world's top athletes were hooking up for the two weeks of competition - with a final burst of sexual release last night on the eve of today's closing ceremonies.

"This sex fest . . . [happened] right here in Beijing," Matthew Syed, a past Olympian and table-tennis champion now working as a commentator, writes in the Times of London. "Olympic athletes have to display an unnatural - and, it has to be said, wholly unhealthy - level of self-discipline in the build-up to big competitions. How else is this going to manifest itself than with a volcanic release of pent-up hedonism?"

Syed notes the big winners, "even those as geeky as Michael Phelps," were the principal objects of desire for many female athletes. Losers also get their share, he said, adding it was "a common sight to see recently knocked-out athletes gorging on Magnums and McDonald's, swilling alcohol and, of course, shagging like crazy."

To make sure the competitors practice safe sex, the Bejing government stocked the Olympic Village with free condoms, and they were scooped up by the handfuls. One Australian athlete told the paper, "It is unbelievable in there; everyone is totally crazy once they are out of their competitions."

This is really pathetic. Though what do you expect from Communists but fraud and deceit?

China stopped a seven-year-old girl from singing at the Olympics opening ceremony because she was not pretty enough, it has emerged.

Organisers agreed Yang Peiyi had the perfect voice to sing the national anthem at the spectacular £20million extravaganza that started the Games last Friday.

But in yet another example of fakery, she was banned from appearing in person because her teeth were deemed too crooked and another girl was asked to lip-synch.

Lin Miaoke, nine, was picked for her angelic looks and charmed the world as she 'sang' Paean to the Motherland in a red dress and pigtails.

Her appearance in the ceremony has made her the hottest child star in China and her picture was even printed on the front page of the New York Times.

But the true story behind her performance has now been revealed by the general music designer of the ceremony, Chen Qigang.

It lays bare China's desperation to present a 'perfect' image to the world and deliver the best ever Olympics as it is under the spotlight like never before.

The country has already been exposed for 'faking' part of the ceremony by using pre-recorded footage of firework footprints racing across the Beijing skyline.

And today it emerged they were also bussing in volunteers to fill up empty seats at the events to make it appear every stadium was full to bursting.

Of the decision to deny Yang Peiyi her chance to perform in front of billions, Mr Qigang said: 'The first condition was that the director wants the image to be very cute.'

I wonder if the Chinese citizens realize we kicked their ass in basketball the other day? For all we know they were shown a staged game showing the Chinese dunking all over Team USA.

Iranians Show True Olympic Spirit

They can't handle the humiliation of losing to an Israeli, so what do these cavemen do?

They force their own athlete to withdraw.

Here's a better idea: Why don't you just pack up and leave the Games entirely?

Politics reared its ugly head at the Olympic Games once more on Saturday after an Iranian swimmer refused to compete alongside Israeli Tom Be'eri.

Mohammad Alirezaei was due to race against Be'eri in the fourth heat of the 100 meter breaststroke, but pulled out, apparently under the orders of the chiefs of the Iranian delegation.

"This isn't the first time this has happened and it doesn't surprise me anymore," Olympic Committee of Israel General Secretary Efraim Zinger told The Jerusalem Post. "Politics takes precedence over sport with the Iranians and the Olympic spirit is as far from them as east is far from west.

"My heart goes out to the Iranian athletes. In the Athens Olympics one of their sportsmen, who was a gold medal favorite, had to pull out because he was drawn against an Israeli.

"There's no place for this kind of behavior in the Olympic movement and it's a shame it continues."

In a superb opening day of racing for Israel's swimmers, which was sadly marred, the delegation's three competitors set two Israeli records and one personal best.

If you plan on watching even the slightest bit of the Olympics, tune in this evening and watch Lopez Lamong bearing the flag of his adopted country.

BEIJING — On the finest night of his latest life, the new American carried his flag into the splendor.

The acrobats were done now, and the performance art was complete. But the glistening lights were brighter than anything he had ever seen, and the world was watching, and his heart was racing at a speed that even his feet have never experienced.

Lopez Lomong was a part of the Olympics.

Not only that, but the Lost Boy was leading the way.

Who could have imagined it? Lomong, the most unlikely Olympian of them all, walked into the Bird's Nest Stadium on Friday night, leading the athletes of the United States into the opening ceremony of the Olympics.

It has taken Lomong so many footsteps, and so many incarnations, to make it here. He was the kid who was ripped from his mother's arms, the kid who grew up hungry in a refugee camp, the kid who once gazed upon his own grave. He was born in Sudan, raised in Kenya and adopted by the United States.

And now, he was here, on this night of wonder, a human symbol in the most symbolic of all ceremonies.

China Bars Darfur Activist

Try as hard as they might, the Chinese are sure coming off looking incredibly thin-skinned about any semblance of criticism as the Olympics open.

Instead of promoting openness and tolerance, all they're doing is reinforcing the fact they're a Communist police state that has no interest in freedom of speech.

NBC can play along and pretend what a great place China is, but you just cannot silence every reporter and athlete, who I'm sure will have plenty to say when they get back from the games.

Olympic gold medalist and outspoken Darfur activist Joey Cheek has had his visa revoked by the Chinese embassy, hours before the speedskating champion was set to fly to China. And he wasn't even planning on wearing a mask when he got there.

Chinese officials don't need a reason to revoke anyone's visa but, in their eyes, they had plenty of reasons to snatch Cheek's. He is the founder of Team Darfur, a group of 70 athletes whose goal it is to raise global awareness of the human-rights violations taking part in the Darfur region of Sudan. China's military, economic and diplomatic ties to Sudan have been well-publicized in the lead-up to the Games.

New York Times Shocked By Chinese Censorship

Useful idiots are always the last ones to figure it out.

They're aghast that Communists would actually lie to them!

Western journalists working at the Main Press Centre in Beijing say they could not access the website for Amnesty International on Tuesday, a claim that officials with the International Olympic Committee say they are investigating, according to Reuters.

The website’s unavailability came a day after Amnesty International issued a harsh report criticizing China for failing to live up to promises that it would improve its human rights record ahead of the Olympics. Kevan Gosper, chairman of the I.O.C.’s Press Commission, also said he would look into reports of slow Internet access at the Centre, which by the time the Games begin on August 8 is expected to welcome 20,000 accredited journalists.

Sam Zarifi, Amnesty’s Asia Pacific director, said he began hearing about the problem after he directed reporters working at the Main Press Centre to his website to view the recently released report. “It is really disappointing,” he said in a telephone interview. The Chinese government’s “one big, begrudging promise was that foreign media would have free access on all issues, everywhere.”

Chinese Destroy Mosque for Failing to Support Olympics

Go ahead, Islamists, issue a fatwa on them and see what the reaction is. You'll be crushed under their boot, that's what will happen. Somehow I get the feeling groups like CAIR won't get much attention in China.

Chinese authorities in the restive far western region of Xinjiang have demolished a mosque for refusing to put up signs in support of this August's Beijing Olympics, an exiled group said on Monday.

The mosque was in Kalpin county near Aksu city in Xinjiang's rugged southwest, the World Uyghur Congress said.

The spokesman's office of the Xinjiang government said it had no immediate comment, while telephone calls to the county government went answered.

"China is forcing mosques in East Turkistan to publicize the Beijing Olympics to get the Uighur people to support the Games (but) this has been resisted by the Uighurs," World Uyghur Congress spokesman Dilxat Raxit said in an emailed statement.

Beijing says al Qaeda is working with militants in Xinjiang to use terror to establish an independent state called East Turkistan.

Oil-rich Xinjiang is home to 8 million Turkic-speaking Uighurs, many of whom resent the growing economic and cultural influence of the Han Chinese.

Dilxat Raxit added that the mosque, which had been renovated in 1998, was accused of illegally renovating the structure, carrying out illegal religious activities and illegally storing copies of the Muslim holy book the Koran.

"All the Korans in the mosque have been seized by the government and dozens of people detained," he said. "The detained Uighurs have been tortured."

Hmm. I wonder what they might do with those Korans?

IAEA: Terrorists Planning Olympic Dirty Bomb

It's probably safe to say every Olympics from here on out will face such threats.

Of course, they mention no possible suspects (cough, cough Islamists) nor do they have any specific information of any pending threat. Still, it's enough to cause some concern.

Chances are more likely of something happening in London in 2012.

Terrorists are trying to obtain nuclear material in a bid to cause widespread chaos at the Beijing Olympics, it has been claimed.

The International Atomic Energy Authority warned that terrorists may try and use dirty bombs to disperse radioactive materials during the high-profile event.

The UN nuclear watchdog issued the stern warning as it staged its biggest ever security training exercise in the Chinese capital.

The agency's head of nuclear security, Dr Anita Nilsson also claimed that the same threats will loom over the London Games in 2012.

"There is a threat at some level that these [radioactive] materials could be used," Dr she told the BBC.

“The awareness that these materials do exist in circulation is enough in itself to trigger the measures that we are now working together with the Chinese authorities to implement at the major venues of the Beijing Olympics."

However, the agency admitted there was no specific information about a potential or imminent terror attack.

I'm mildly surprised this toothless watchdog would even surmise there's potential for such an attack considering they've turned a blind eye to nuclear proliferation elsewhere, specifically in Iran and Syria.

Obviously the Chinese are taking this seriously, and to some surprise, so is the IAEA.

But can you imagine the reaction from China if something like this were to happen?

I suspect those complaining about our tactics in the war on terror would have their hands full chronicling the alleged violations of international law and the Geneva Convention.

Double Amputee Can Compete for Olympics

I saw this fellow on a television program some time ago, and believe me, he's no slouch.

Some argue he has an unfair edge, but the way I see it, anyone who's overcome what he has to get where he is now hasn't had anything handed to him.

You'll be inspired seeing him run.

Double-amputee sprinter Oscar Pistorius won his appeal Friday and can compete for a place in the Beijing Olympics.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that the 21-year-old South African is eligible to race against able-bodied athletes, overturning a ban imposed by the International Association of Athletics Federations.

CAS said the unanimous ruling goes into effect immediately.

"I am ecstatic," Pistorius told reporters in Milan, Italy. "When I found out, I cried. It is a battle that has been going on for far too long. It's a great day for sport. I think this day is going to go down in history for the equality of disabled people."

Pistorius still must reach a qualifying time to run in the individual 400 meters at the Aug. 8-24 Beijing Games. However, he can be picked for the South African relay squad without qualifying. That relay squad has not yet qualified for the Olympics.

Pistorius appealed to CAS, world sport's highest tribunal, to overturn a Jan. 14 ruling by the IAAF that banned him from competing. The IAAF said his carbon fiber blades give him a mechanical advantage.

A two-day hearing was held before a panel of three arbitrators at CAS headquarters last month. Pistorius now is expected to get invitations from track and field promoters across the world who want him to run at their meets before Beijing.

Pistorius said he will be running in both able-bodied and Paralympic events before Beijing. His manager, Peet van Zyl, said the runner will compete in Milan on July 2 and the Golden Gala meet in Rome on July 11.

"Oscar will be welcomed wherever he competes this summer," IAAF president Lamine Diack said in a statement. "He is an inspirational man and we look forward to admiring his achievements in the future."

The International Olympic Committee welcomed the verdict.

"Oscar Pistorius is a determined and gutsy athlete who will now no doubt put all his energy into reaching the qualification standards for the Olympic Games," the IOC said in a statement. "If he makes it we would be delighted to welcome him."

China Profiling Foreign Journalists

Surely the noble guardians of the First Amendment will be up in arms over this report.

The Chinese government has created profiles on thousands of foreign journalists coming to report on next summer's Beijing Olympics and is gathering information on thousands more to put into a database, a top official said in comments published Monday.

The profiles appeared to undermine promises made by Chinese leaders in when they were bidding for the Games, that the event would lead to greater media freedoms.

Memo to the AP: Do not take Communists at their word.

The database with information on the 28,000 foreign journalists expected for the Olympics would be a reference for interview subjects, designed to protect them from being tricked or blackmailed by "fake reporters," Liu Binjie, minister of the General Administration of Press and Publication, was quoted as saying in the state-run China Daily newspaper.

"Disguising as reporters to threaten and intimidate others to collect money is cheating and very dangerous to society," Liu told the English-language paper.

In China, people sometimes pose as reporters to extort money from corrupt officials or demand payment for false promises of favorable news coverage. A nationwide campaign launched in August netted 150 fake reporters and 300 unregistered publications, China Daily said.

Bob Dietz, Asia program coordinator for the Committee to Protect Journalists, said fake reporters looking for kickbacks in China is a legitimate concern, but that it was an internal problem.

"Applying that to foreign journalists seems to me widely off the mark. This is an unnecessary overreaction," he said.

Yes, just an overreaction. Can you just imagine the outcry if the United States compiled such information on journalists visiting here?

We'd never hear the end of it from the left.

Let's see if they speak up now or quietly acquiesce.

I suspect it will be the latter. After all, as history has shown us, many so-called journalists put access before dignity.

UPDATE: At least one organization has noticed. It's a start.

CPJ expressed alarm that the government’s plan, which includes amassing records of thousands of foreign journalists seeking Olympics accreditation, is a pretext to block critical reporters from covering the Games.
