Can't say I'm shedding too many tears over the loss of these jobs. Considering the Times has 1300 reporters yet they're so incompetent they can't even cover stories such as Van Jones, it seems they have a lot of excess baggage to trim. If they were smart they'd work from the top down and lop off Bill Keller and Jill Abramson for starters before getting to the really dead weight on their hapless editorial page.

The New York Times today said it was cutting 100 newsroom jobs, as the struggling newspaper continues to make cuts in the face of a declining advertising market.

The round of cuts marks the second time this year that the Times has slashed jobs. In March, the company eliminated 100 positions and imposed a 5 percent pay cut that lasts through the end of the year.

According to a memo distributed to employees by Executive Editor Bill Keller, the company hopes to make all the cuts through voluntary buyouts, though he didn’t rule out involuntary cuts if too few people step up.

The New York Times is cutting sections and trimming its budget for freelance contributions in another round of belt tightening aimed at coping with a steep decline in ad revenue.

The newspaper's executive editor, Bill Keller, announced the cuts in a staff memo Thursday.

The Times currently produces zoned Sunday sections with different mixes of local news for New York City, New Jersey, Long Island, Westchester County, N.Y., and Connecticut. Now those will be reduced to zoned pages within a single regional section. Keller said the newspaper was still working on a prototype and hoped to launch the new section on May 24.

Keller also said the standalone Escapes travel section will disappear after April 24, with some content folded into the Friday Weekend section.

The New York Times Magazine will end its weekly fashion spreads after May 3. Fashion coverage will primarily appear instead in the Times' T Magazine and the newspaper's Thursday and Sunday Style sections.

Beginning Tuesday, the Times will condense its three-page daily index of stories into one page.

Keller said the newspaper will begin trimming its freelance budgets within weeks, though he did not elaborate.

"Taken together, these moves will save millions of dollars — savings that would otherwise have to come out of payroll," he wrote.

Here's a suggestion that would save them millions. Eliminate their op-ed page. Just think of the money saved by lopping off overpaid hacks like Maureen Dowd, Frank Rich, Bob Herbert and Paul Krugman. Plus, you might salvage some credibility in the process.

New York Times: We Don't Just Screw Up the News

It hasn't been a good week for the incompetent, biased hacks at the New York Times. Not only have they been lambasted for the bogus hitpiece on John McCain, but now they're being excoriated for screwing up sports coverage.

They're being swamped with emails from outraged readers (likely now former readers) after Bill Keller invited feedback.

More than 2,400 readers swamped The New York Times yesterday with letters condemning its shoddy story suggesting that John McCain had an affair with a female lobbyist - and the angry mob included many Democrats and independents who had been die-hard fans of the paper.

Times executive editor Bill Keller said he was taken aback by the record number of hostile comments - the most ever received by the paper about a story - because the widespread denunciation covered the entire political spectrum.

"I was surprised by how lopsided the opinion was against our decision, with readers who described themselves as independents and Democrats joining Republicans in defending Mr. McCain from what they saw as a cheap shot," Keller said in a posting on the Gray Lady's Web site.

I suspect it was far more. They have a habit of censoring reader feedback, based on personal experience (they don't like me there, for obvious reasons).

Keller isn't the only incompetent hack to defend the smear.

Managing editor Jill Abramson defended the paper's use of two "disillusioned," unnamed McCain associates as key sources.

Abramson is well versed at smearing people. She was one of the authors of the ridiculous book on Clarence Thomas. It appears she's perfectly suited for her job with the Old Grey Hag.

Meanwhile, these boobs are now also being taken to task by the NFL for inaccurate reporting on allegations of the New England Patriots and their Spygate affairs.

The story the NFL wants to see shrivel up and die but continues to cling to life took another turn yesterday when the league refuted a New York Times report that the Patriots were caught illegally taping a Giants defensive assistant during a preseason game back in 2006.

"The report in the Times is inaccurate," Greg Aiello, the NFL's senior vice president of public relations, told The Post in an e-mail.

"The Patriots were not caught taping signals during the 2006 Giants-Patriots preseason game."

Citing NFL executives, the Times stated Bill Belichick's Patriots were caught taping the Giants New York Giants on Aug. 31, a game won by the Giants 31-23 at Giants Stadium. The teams did not play each other during the regular season.

The New York Times: Hopelessly biased, hopelessly incompetent.

Florida Televangelist Silenced by CAIR

The unindicted co-conspirators from CAIR have managed to intimidate a Florida television station into canceling an allegedly controversial televangelist who had the temerity to "offend" them.

US televangelist loses show after Muslims complain

ST. PETERSBURG - For the first time in nearly five years, controversial Christian televangelist Bill Keller is going off the air.

Keller - known for his vitriolic criticism of religious, political and pop culture figures - said Thursday his program was yanked in response to pressure from local Muslims.

Earlier this month, officials from the Council on American Islamic Relations wrote to executives at CBS asking them to investigate Live Prayer with Bill Keller, an hourlong nightly program.

In a May 2 broadcast, the televangelist said Islam was a "1,400-year-old lie from the pits of hell" and called the Prophet Mohammed a "murdering pedophile." He also called the Koran a "book of fables and a book of lies."

CAIR officials asked for equal air time for Florida Muslims to counter Keller's assertions. The show, which aired nightly from 1to 2 a.m., is broadcast on WTOG-TV CH. 44, a CBS-owned station that airs the CW network locally.

"I'm saying nothing now that I haven't been saying for five years," said Keller, who plans to hold his last broadcast on Aug. 31. "Ultimately, it was pressure by CAIR that intimidated these people into taking me off the air. It was not mutually agreeable. They told me they were taking me off the air, period."

But WTOG station manager Laura Caruso said the decision to end Keller's contract was a programming one, made by station executives and the televangelist.

"It really doesn't have anything to do with any special interest groups or anybody in the community," Caruso said. "I think he has a good program, and I wish him all the success in the world."

CAIR claims credit

After speaking with CBS executives, CAIR claims credit for Keller's demise on WTOG. His contract, set to end in December, will terminate on Sept. 11.

"They really based their decision upon our letter," said Ramzy Kilic, CAIR's civil rights coordinator. "They really did not know that Bill Keller was involved with this kind of anti-Muslim rhetoric."

Acting on complaints from bay area Muslims, CAIR officials began monitoring Keller's programs in May.
