Banned In Oregon: Confederate Flag

Those hateful, bigoted and misguided touchy-feely liberals from the left coast are once again putting their stereotypical leftist thinking front and center again, and in so doing have exposed themselves as the hypocrites that they are.

A school district in Oregon, Phoenix-Talent, has fired a school bus driver for daring, daring I tell you, to have a Confederate flag on his personal pick-up truck. The fact that this guy had the audacity to park his personal vehicle at work was enough to get him fired.

Webber said he was fired Tuesday for gross insubordination after refusing for the second time to take the flag off his CB antenna while parked in the bus yard in Talent, which is owned by the Phoenix-Talent School District.

Why do I say hypocrites? Well, it seems in the entire school district of 24,064 people they have an astounding 189 folks of African-American descent. In my neck of the woods, we have more then that in the parking lot of Wal-Mart at any given moment.

This really does trample on the First Amendment rights of this guy and is just unbelievable. These same folks would absolutely go apoplectic if they were to actually come south and see all the Confederate flags flying around here. It is on everything from apparel to bumpers to commercials. This is the sort of thing that just makes me scratch my head and wonder what the hell these people are thinking, and the answer I get back each time is they aren't thinking.

They took this action in a preemptive attempt to prevent somebody from being offended. Talk about about a bunch of people eaten up by white guilt, this is them. Notice they didn't say anybody was offended, but rather they might be offended. I have scoured the Constitution and for the life of me I can't find a right to not be offended. I get offended all the time, from the Westboro freaks to their compatriots on the crazy train, which seems to be a high-speed rail project all on its own, from the envirowackos to antiwar protesters.

I wonder how the good folks of Oregon would feel if we decided to ban references to beavers because it might offend someone?

It's called a Confederate flag

Whether this flag right here represents the symbol of racism, a symbol of political ideology, a symbol of Southern heritage -- or, is it something completely different?

Romney: Right now, with the kinds of issues we got in this country, I'm not going to get involved with a flag like that. That's not a flag that I recognize so that I would hold up in my room.

The people of our country have decided not to fly that flag. I think that's the right thing.

My own view is that this country can go beyond that kind of stuff, and that instead we can do as a party what we need to do, which is to reach out to all Americans.

Every time I listen to someone like John Edwards get on TV and say there are two Americans, I just want to -- I just want to throw something at the TV, because there are not two Americas. There's one America.

We are a nation united. We face extraordinary challenges right now. And Democrats dividing us and tearing down this country are doing exactly the wrong thing.

We're succeeding in Iraq. We've got tough challenges. We can overcome them. But we do not need to have that kind of divisive talk. And that flag, frankly, is divisive, and it shouldn't be shown.

Cooper: Governor Thompson? Excuse me, Senator Thompson? Maybe one day.

Thompson: I know that everybody who hangs the flag up in their room like that is not racist. I also know that for a great many Americans it's a symbol of racism.

So, therefore, as a public place -- he's free to do whatever he wants to in his home. As far as a public place is concerned, I am glad that people have made the decision not to display it as a prominent flag, symbolic of something, at a state capitol. As a part of a group of flags or something of that nature, you know, honoring various servicepeople at different times in different parts of the country, I think that's different.

But, as a nation, we don't need to go out of our way to be bringing up things that to certain people in our country that's bad for them.

The guy who asked this question is a Ron Paul supporter, big whoop. Why didn't he ask this of his candidate?
In a time long ago the Confederate Stars and Bars flag was a symbol of resolve, courage, and fierce independence. That was in the days before Jesse Jackson and his ilk managed to promote their campaign of hate and racism across the country blackmailing quite a few states and corporations along the way. Why is it that the flag is still worn by people trying to show their independence? It is not a symbol of racism and never has been. Neither candidate made any points among southerners, at least those who watched the debate, with their answers.
Neither one of them took the questioner to task for his false assertions rather they just let them go unchallenged. Fred gave it a half hearted attempt.
I remember a day and age when that flag accompanied with a hearty rebel yell would inspire fear in the hearts of your enemy or could be used to display a show of excitement that words were not adequate enough for.
I have never been a big Confederate flag waver, but I respected it. It epitomized what the south about. It is a link to our past, good, bad or indifferent. Now with the continuous bashing of the flag I, like a lot of my neighbors will be proudly displaying it right next to my American flag that flies outside my house.
I will not be shamed and I will not bow to some faux outrage and false associations hoisted by others upon what the flag represents.

Few things have gotten me real fired up, but if everybody continues to buy into this myth that the Confederate Flag is a symbol of racism this may not be the last you read of this topic from me. Gangsta rappers with pants around their knees, showing their butts in public and shooting people to get street cred for the release of their new album is far more offensive and might be something all you people wanting to burn the rebel flag might spend your energies on.

Here we go again. Incidents of this type I guess are going to be getting more national news attention now since there are declining body counts in Iraq and news of Brittany is getting old.
Racist incident roils Pa. high school

Here is the incident, without all of the speculation of the reporter and the liberal handwringing.

That's when three white 16-year-old students allegedly yelled racial slurs and threw paper wads at minority students outside the 1,600-student Warwick High School.

Nobody condones using racial slurs, unless you are liberal blog popular with most of Democrat lawmakers and are referring to either conservative bloggers or the military. And of course the school administration has a firm grasp on how to solve the problem.

School officials vowed to discipline the three students, tighten security and ban Confederate flags on school property.

Yup that is the solution. Ban the Confederate flag, because after all we know that the flag is the cause of everything eveel in America. I wonder how the "school officials" feel about Che t-shirts or Paleo scarves, you know people who actually killed other people and continue to inspire murder.
Living in the south I am way past sick and tired of everything being blamed on the Confederate flag. Damn Yankees just need something to blame, because afterall it isn't the fault of the individuals involved is it. I never heard the term racial incident used to describe the physical attack of 6 black youths in LA against a white guy. The only time the race card was played was to bring up the incidents of the nooses in the trees, which occurred 3 months before the beating administered to the white kid. And then there is this from one of the concerned parents

Erasmo Cora Jr., a Puerto Rican native whose 14-year-old son, Erik, was among the victims, said the school should expel all of the roughly dozen students who allegedly engaged in racist behavior.

So tell me Mr Cora Jr, do you have a Puerto Rican flag hanging from the rearview mirror of your car? Maybe you have a Puerto Rican license plate holder. Does your kid ever wear a shirt with the PR flag on it?
Incidents like this always get on my bad side. My child, who is white in full disclosure, attends a school that is 70% black, not only students but facility and staff also, and I am here to tell you it cuts both ways. My child wears a shirt with something not to the liking of one of the teachers she is sent home. While we are waiting to pick her up all kinds of kids are walking around showing their boxer shorts or girls in skirts best suited for a profession that can be described as a night job walk merrily by. My kid gets beat up, chances are she will also wind up in detention for provoking a fight, you know with 5 other students at once.
I am just tired of the race card being trotted out and being used for a double standard.
But you let me know how banning the Confederate flag works out for you will ya? And while you are at it can somebody in PA ask Murtha for an apology to the Marines he slandered.

Pantsuit Calls for Unity in Wartime

You almost have to give her bonus points for sheer audacity. One day she calls for us to get out in 90 days and now she wants us to be united?

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton said Monday that South Carolina should remove the Confederate flag from its Statehouse grounds, in part because the nation should unite under one banner while at war.

"I think about how many South Carolinians have served in our military and who are serving today under our flag and I believe that we should have one flag that we all pay honor to, as I know that most people in South Carolina do every single day," Clinton told The Associated Press in an interview.

Sure, it would be great if we could unite during wartime. There's just the nagging little issue of your party trying to undermine the President. Minor quibble, I guess.
