Exposure from x-rays or gamma rays is measured in units of roentgens. For example:

* Total body exposure of 100 roentgens (or 1 Gy) causes radiation sickness.
* Total body exposure of 400 roentgens (or 4 Gy) causes radiation sickness and death in half the individuals. Without medical treatment, nearly everyone who receives more than this amount of radiation will die within 30 days.
* 100,000 rads causes almost immediate unconsciousness and death within an hour

Banned In Oregon: Confederate Flag

Those hateful, bigoted and misguided touchy-feely liberals from the left coast are once again putting their stereotypical leftist thinking front and center again, and in so doing have exposed themselves as the hypocrites that they are.

A school district in Oregon, Phoenix-Talent, has fired a school bus driver for daring, daring I tell you, to have a Confederate flag on his personal pick-up truck. The fact that this guy had the audacity to park his personal vehicle at work was enough to get him fired.

Webber said he was fired Tuesday for gross insubordination after refusing for the second time to take the flag off his CB antenna while parked in the bus yard in Talent, which is owned by the Phoenix-Talent School District.

Why do I say hypocrites? Well, it seems in the entire school district of 24,064 people they have an astounding 189 folks of African-American descent. In my neck of the woods, we have more then that in the parking lot of Wal-Mart at any given moment.

This really does trample on the First Amendment rights of this guy and is just unbelievable. These same folks would absolutely go apoplectic if they were to actually come south and see all the Confederate flags flying around here. It is on everything from apparel to bumpers to commercials. This is the sort of thing that just makes me scratch my head and wonder what the hell these people are thinking, and the answer I get back each time is they aren't thinking.

They took this action in a preemptive attempt to prevent somebody from being offended. Talk about about a bunch of people eaten up by white guilt, this is them. Notice they didn't say anybody was offended, but rather they might be offended. I have scoured the Constitution and for the life of me I can't find a right to not be offended. I get offended all the time, from the Westboro freaks to their compatriots on the crazy train, which seems to be a high-speed rail project all on its own, from the envirowackos to antiwar protesters.

I wonder how the good folks of Oregon would feel if we decided to ban references to beavers because it might offend someone?

Like Rats Deserting A Sinking Ship

Poor, poor Democrats. They just can't catch a break. The latest victim is Rep David Wu (D-Romulus). Mr Wu apparently a big Star Trek fan based on his use of Vulcan and Klingon analogies in his anti war speeches, but now he has staffers leaving him in droves, perhaps because they finally realized he is too bat shit crazy even for them.

Since the November election, U.S. Rep. David Wu, D-Ore., has lost at least six staffers plus the leadership of a veteran campaign team that guided him to a seventh term amid complaints about his public behavior.

The exodus includes Wu's longtime chief of staff, Julie Tippens, and communications director, Julia Krahe, both in Washington, D.C. Krahe left without securing a job while Tippens took a similar position with a lawmaker with far less seniority.

In addition, Wu has lost virtually his entire political team -- people who have been with the Democrat for more than a decade -- including his chief fundraiser, Lisa Kurdziel, and chief pollster, Lisa Grove, who told The Oregonian she wouldn't work for him again.

The voters in his district obviously are not as sane or rooted in reality as these staffers since they reelected him. Remember he is a member of the party which is also telling you that Obamacare is good for you. Would you seriously take his opinion on anything given all the other displays of what used to be called eccentricity, but I just call crazy.

Beam me up Scotty, there is no signs of intelligent life here.

'I'm convinced. Let's tax the hell out of 'em'

It's thinking like this that may soon leave the Democrats in a permanent minority. These "rich" people have only so much to give before they will abandon your state, you nitwit.

Oregon officials know all about anti-tax fervor.

Over the years, voters here have capped property taxes (saddling the state with two-thirds the cost of running the schools) and passed a constitutional amendment requiring rebates whenever tax receipts come in 2% over budget. Nine times they have been asked to OK a sales tax -- and said no. Proposals to increase the state income tax? Down in flames twice.

But now the Legislature is taking a tack that analysts think could finally pull the rug out from under the tax revolt: soaking the rich.

In mail-in voting that ends today, Oregon is considering measures to raise taxes on households earning $250,000 or more and on individuals earning at least $125,000, as well as hike corporate taxes. About 39,000 of the state's 1.5 million taxpayers would be subject to the higher tax, and some big companies could see their annual bills go from $10 to $100,000.

The success or failure of Measures 66 and 67 will be a concrete test -- one of the few in the country this year -- of how willing voters are to accept tax increases targeted at those theoretically best equipped to pay them.

"These measures are the first test of a progressive solution to the recession," said Cynthia Kain, a spokeswoman for the National Education Assn. who has been working to help pass the ballot measures.

Opponents of the tax hikes warn that they could cripple small businesses and jeopardize employment in a state that has lost 131,000 private-sector jobs during the recession.

But many voters appear willing to risk that. Polls have shown both measures ahead, although one late last week showed the gap tightening.

"I'm convinced. Let's tax the hell out of 'em," said Rebecca Maxwell, a young software developer from Portland.

Maybe some day when young Rebecca grows up she'll be one of those evil rich earning at least $125,000. How much you want to bet she's singing a different tune by then?

Naturally, it's the unions that are footing the tab to try and further rape the earners.

The campaign in support of the tax increases has been financed mostly with contributions from small businesses and public employee unions -- including $1.65 million from the Oregon Education Assn. and more than $1 million from other local and national public employee labor unions.

Their unquenchable thirst for more of your money will blow up in the faces. If these measures actually do pass, good luck finding jobs when the state's largest employers begin fleeing for more hospitable climates.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. It seems the purge is really complete in the great northwest. There are no Republicans from the northwest left in Congress and now some guy who likes to dress up like a girl is mayor of a city.

Alaska Glaciers Grow, Algore Unavailable for Comment

Sarah Palin just stared them down and stopped the melting all by herself.

Two hundred years of glacial shrinkage in Alaska, and then came the winter and summer of 2007-2008.

Unusually large amounts of winter snow were followed by unusually chill temperatures in June, July and August.

"In mid-June, I was surprised to see snow still at sea level in Prince William Sound," said U.S. Geological Survey glaciologist Bruce Molnia. "On the Juneau Icefield, there was still 20 feet of new snow on the surface of the Taku Glacier in late July. At Bering Glacier, a landslide I am studying, located at about 1,500 feet elevation, did not become snow free until early August.

Meanwhile, records cold in Oregon and California recently.

Funny how this isn't national news.

Bad News For The Contessa
Barack [deleted] Obama spent part of his Sunday in beautiful Portland, Oregon.

Fire officials estimated 65,000 packed into a riverside park for a spectacular afternoon rally at a sun-splashed scene on the banks of the Willamette River in Portland. They said an additional 15,000 were left outside and dozens of boaters could be seen floating in the river.


"Wow, wow, wow," Obama said as he surveyed the audience. "We have had a lot of rallies. This is the most spectacular setting, the most spectacular crowd we have had this entire campaign."

And while Obama was in Oregon, Hillary Clinton was in Kentucky.

She attended worship services at a Methodist church in Bowling Green, and happily sang hymns and joined in Bible readings. But her smile faded when the pastor launched into a sermon about adultery, asking his congregants whether the devil had ever whispered over their shoulders in their marriages.

Heh. Ol' Bubba bites Hillary on the ass . . . again.
