House Dems Introduce Legislation to Abolish Debt Ceiling

Well, it's just three stooges for now, but who knows, maybe more Democrats are willing to reveal themselves as completely insane.

Three congressional Democrats are introducing a bill Wednesday that would abolish the federal debt ceiling. The Democrats say that the recent debt ceiling debate had a "disastrous" effect on our nation's economy, and that the legislation would keep parties from using a debt-ceiling default as a hostage in future budget debates.

"The debt ceiling is truly arbitrary and has nothing to do with the deficit," Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) said in a statement last Wednesday. "The debt ceiling does not prevent the United States from incurring new debts. That occurs when Congress decides to authorize more spending than revenues. The debt ceiling prevents the president from borrowing money to pay those debts when they come due.

Virginia Democrat Jim Moran and Georgia Democrat Hank Johnson will join Nadler in introducing the legislation. But the bill is unlikely to gain traction, especially in the Republican-controlled House.

Gee, ya think?

Hank Johnson, the man who thought Guam was going to tip over. Maybe send Nadler there to see if it really would.

Is He Sure The Influx of Military Members Won't Cause His District to Sink?

Hank "Guam is Sinking" Johnson (Nutjob-GA) is always good for a laugh, but when it comes to national security I find it very hard to laugh when guys like this are trying to tell defense folks how to manage their affairs.

Hank is lobbying for the Defense Department--yeah, that same evil entity that the Dems see as the only place in the federal budget as a target to make cuts in--to locate their new African Command Center in his district. Via Jamie Dupree, here is one of the most solid reasons I have ever heard for locating a command center. It has nothing to do with it's ability to actually do its mission mind you.

"We've got one of the country's largest diaspora communities from Africa," Johnson added, ticking off his own list of why Atlanta is the best pick.

"I know that Ambassador Andrew Young is very interested in AFRICOM choosing to locate its headquarters in Atlanta," said Johnson, referencing the former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.

The most common use of the word is diaspora is, according to the dictionary,

1. dispersal of the Jews to countries outside of Palestine after the Babylonian captivity
2. the body of Jews living in countries outside Israel

Trust me, Mr. Johnson has not suddenly found a love of all things Jewish. No, instead he is referring to the lesser-known definition which basically refers to any large population dispersed outside of their home country. In his mind, the best reason to locate a military command center in his district is because he has a large African-American community.

One question for Mr. Johnson, and this goes for everybody who self identifies as an African-American: Can you point me to your home village in Africa?

Long Term Unemployed A Protected Class?

The term protected class is another one of those handy euphemism hoisted upon us like pro choice. Examples of a protected class include minorities, union members and Democrat voters. Mr Hank "Guam is Sinking" Johnson is looking into a proposal coming out of the fevered swamps of far left progressives that the long term unemployed should be added to the list of entities on the protected class list.

Depending on what the EEOC does, Johnson's staff tells me he's considering introducing legislation that could add employment status as one of the protected classes under the Civil Rights Act.

Oh yeah there is the usual race card being played also, but what else do any of these African American Dems have in their toolbox. Unless they can gin up enough white guilt by equating everything from the material in disposable diapers to starving polar bears to some sort of civil rights violation they have nothing.

There's also a race issue here. According to Johnson, some companies' "unemployed need not apply" rules can have a particularly adverse affect on minorities.

With each passing day the Democrats are stripping all the incentives to be productive citizens away and replacing it with dependency on big government. Do I have sympathy for the unemployed? You bet I do. Been there, done that. The facts are however that today there is very little motivation for someone to get off their butt and do any serious job hunting. Granted most companies are afraid to hire nowadays because the cost of hiring somebody has gotten so restrictive and they have adapted to the new environment of managing to get business done with reduced staffing, arguably because demand isn't there to warrant higher level of staffings. In the uncertain business climate being created in Washington I don't fault the business owners as much as I do those that just can't get it through their thick skulls that if they would get out of the way this economy probably would have started turning around a long time ago. The more they stimulate, bailout, and create one fancy program after another the longer it will take to get things moving in a positive direction. While the arguments offered from the Dems about the current tax rates seem to boil down to wanting to soak the rich, the logical conclusion of this reasoning is that I guess everybody is supposed to get a job from a homeless guy living in the park. There is nothing stopping any of these people who want to send more money to Washington from writing a check and sending it to them. Instead of berating people who don't want to pay higher taxes whip out your checkbook and instead of sending the money to some liberal political action group send it to Congress. We'll both feel better and it has a certain ring of fairness to it.

Oh and Washington there would be no need to raise taxes if you would cut spending, and yes the kids are going to whine about having their allowance cut but guess what. We'll adapt and overcome just like we always do. If they would have done the Social Security changes a decade ago we would have removed that from their fear mongering tactics. I will never forgive AARP and the senior citizens, who would not have been affected by the legislation in the slightest way, for screwing it up for my generation. Just like the west coast liberals who want everybody to pay for their alcohol and drug rehab and sex change operations have now screwed up the medical system in this country.

Obama Endorses Famed Geologist

Obama sure knows how to pick a winner. Those endorsements of Jon Corzine, Creigh Deeds and Martha Coakley really worked wonders. Now he's stepped into a Democratic primary in Georgia to endorse this drooling moron, who should probably begin packing up things in his office.

The ever-courteous Hank Johnson has given those Democrats who want his DeKalb County seat in Congress a long weekend to think things over, plus this press release:

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama announced Thursday his endorsement of Congressman Hank Johnson, who represents Georgia’s Fourth Congressional District.

“Congressman Johnson has done an outstanding job,” said President Obama. “Together, we are fighting to renew our economy. Together, we passed historic health care reform. I am proud to stand with Hank and support his re-election.”

Qualifying begins on Monday.

Obama’s endorsement is, in fact, a license to print photos of Johnson and the president – real ones, no digital retouching necessary — in whatever fashion that pleases the congressman.

Cynthia Tucker, Voice of Reason (Well, Only Briefly)

Well, that's a headline I never thought I'd write. Considering the absurd outburst by Democrat Congressman Hank Johnson Tuesday, it's refreshing to see the usually unhinged AJC columnist chime in with a dose of reality.

Until now, Hank Johnson, a quiet (even boring) Buddhist, has been the perfect antidote to Cynthia McKinney, whom he defeated in 2006. But today, he went off on a little McKinney-like tirade. He told reporters that he supports a resolution reprimanding Joe Wilson because Wilson’s heckling could lead us back to the days of the Ku Klux Klan.

No, Hank, that’s a perfectly illogical conclusion. What Wilson did was boorish and offensive, but it wasn’t racist. You don’t do anything to highlight genuine bigotry, which is still aloose in the land, when you accuse everyone who offends you of racist sentiment.

Stop it. Apologize.

The flying pig has left the hangar.

Maybe Tucker can now admonish another buffoon from her home state.

Just a suggestion, but the AJC might want to consider monitoring their comments.

Joe Wilson Derangement Syndrome: Racist Democrats Becoming Hysterical

Actually, I shouldn't say they're becoming hysterical. They're been that way far too long.

But get a load of this drivel.

Rep. Joe Wilson's outburst last week is drawing new recriminations from his colleagues, with a member of the Congressional Black Caucus suggesting that a failure to rebuke the South Carolina Republican is tantamount to supporting the most blatant form of organized racism in American history.

In an obvious reference to the Ku Klux Klan, Rep. Hank Johnson, D-Ga., said Tuesday that people will be putting on "white hoods and white uniforms again and riding through the countryside" if emerging racist attitudes, which he says were subtly supported by Wilson, are not rebuked. He said Wilson must be disciplined as an example.

Do the words "overplaying your hand" mean anything to this tool?

I guess there's no other pressing business for Congress to tend to this week.

I'm so glad to see we've moved on to a post-racial era where absurd charges of racism every five minutes turned into absurd charges of racism every three minutes.

Seems to me this inane obsession with Wilson is a convenient distraction from the criminal enterprise known as ACORN. Speaking of which, stay tuned to Big Government around 4 pm this afternoon as they unveil yet another damaging video tape.

African American Congressman Faces Angry Southern KKK Crowd at Healthcare Townhall

That is the headline the liberal media would love to run with this morning, and were probably anticipating as Georgia congressman Hank Johnson (GA-13) held his healthcare townhall last night in a suburb of Atlanta. Instead over 2,000 people attended and engaged the congressmaen and other members of the panel that were assembled in polite and probing questions regarding the various healthcare bills floating around the halls of the capitol building.

Civil, well-mannered, asking smart questions – that may not sound like one of these town hall meetings on health care reform.
But the nearly 2,000 people who gathered Monday night at George Perimeter College in Clarkston offered a lesson to the rest of the nation on how civil discourse doesn’t have to spiral into civil disobedience.

Our local rag the Atlanta Journal Constitution (AJC), even had to concede that the meeting went well, but they weren't ready to report that most people in attendance expressed displeasure at the proposed government takeover of healthcare in this country. In fact in reading the article you get a sense that most in attendance were in favor. This is a far different perpective then what was shown on the local news channels last night in which at least one reporter on the scene estimated that those who oppose the plan outnumbered those in favor by a margin of 5 or 6 to 1.
So while Yankee boy John Dingell from MI likes to compare those who oppose the government takeover to members of the KKK, we southerners will continue to display our usual southern hospitality and manners. Something those on the left could take some lessons from.

Obamabots Heed The Call To Arms

We knew the debate over this healthcare legislation was going to get heated, and this morning when I woke up I was greeted with a couple of stories involving some heated exchanges at a couple of these townhall meetings, so I immediately went to the web to get the rest of the story that the soundbites on tv couldn't. Of course it didn't take long to find stories of union thugs getting preferential treatment at one townhall meeting and at least one incident of a woman who lost her cool and slapped a man in her vigorous defense of socialized medicine.

One of the representatives from my area, Hank Johnson (D-GA/4) is holding a townhall meeting on Monday August 10th from 7 PM to 9 PM. Hank now holds the seat formerly held by Cynthia McKinney so you already have a good idea of the makeup of the district.

A blog that writes about politics in Georgia, Peach Pundit, put up a post announcing this meeting, no comment about it, just an announcement. BTW Peach Pundit is run by the same guy who runs the Redstate blog, Eric Erickson.

Well some of the comments are very revealing to say the least.

Since the healthcare protesters I’ve seen are usually older conservative white folks, I’ll be amazed if that demographic is anywhere near Memorial Drive around sunset.

If you think these comments are made lightly here is a news report from March 2008, but things haven't changed, if anything they have gotten worse in this liberal stronghold.

It looks like there might be another "teachable" moment here.
