Democrat Senate Aide in Kiddie Porn Sting

Frankly, I have to admit I'm surprised he's been fired. I figured the guy is a candidate for some counseling and a group hug knowing the Democrats and their tolerance for law-breaking.

A senior aide to Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) was fired from his post last week after he was charged with distributing and receiving child pornography.

Jeffrey P. Rosato, an aide to Boxer and a senior policy adviser on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, was arrested last Friday, the same day he was fired from Boxer's office, and charged with one count each of receipt and distribution of child pornography. He appeared in U.S. District Court in Alexandria on Wednesday and was released on his own recognizance, but he is forbidden to have access to children or computers.

According to an FBI affidavit, an unnamed person "distributed more than 600 files containing graphic images and movies of child pornography to an undercover detective that [the person] believed was a 13-year-old boy" over the course of more than 15 online chats during a three-week period in January. In that person's computer, the FBI found information suggesting the person had exchanged pornography with Rosato.

Investigators also found pornographic photos and movies of children on Rosato's laptop computer during a Nov. 4 search of his Alexandria home, according to the affidavit. "Many of the images and videos depict prepubescent boys engaged in sexual acts," it said.

Rosato's attorney, Patrick N. Anderson of Alexandria, did not return a call seeking comment.

Seems to be a lot of this going on with aides to Senate Democrats.

Last month, a former Senate aide, James Michael McHaney, was sentenced to three years in prison on a federal charge of possession of child pornography. McHaney, 28, was arrested last year in a sting and fired from his job in the office of Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.).

As we noted here at the time, the McHaney story was quickly glossed over by the media. Curious how Rosato was busted a week ago and only now is the story making news.

Mrs. Clinton: I Risked My Life With Sinbad

The Pantsuit is really getting desperate.

Now we're hearing about harrowing tales of heroism while flying around as First Lady.

Ever since Barack Obama suggested Hillary Clinton's eight years as first lady were a glorified tea party a few days back, she's looked for an opening to strike back.

On Saturday night in Dubuque she pounced, arguing she risked her life on White House missions in the 1990s, including a hair-raising flight into Bosnia that ended in a "corkscrew" landing and a sprint off the tarmac to dodge snipers.

"I don't remember anyone offering me tea," she quipped.

The dictum around the Oval Office in the '90s, she added, was: "If a place was too dangerous, too poor or too small, send the first lady."

It turns out that Clinton wasn't quite flying solo into harm's way that day.

She was, in fact, leading a goodwill entourage that included baggy-pants funnyman Sinbad, singer Sheryl Crow and Clinton's daughter, Chelsea, then 15, according to an account of the March 1995 trip in her autobiography "Living History."

Guffaws all around with this one.

A new beginning, huh?

Besides being redundant, there was a new beginning back in 1993 as well.

In fact, that was the theme of Clinton's first inaugural.

In charge of the events are Mr. Clinton's best fund-raiser and image-makers: Rahm Emanuel, the 32-year-old Clinton campaign finance director, and two close friends of the President-elect, Linda Bloodworth-Thomason and Harry Thomason. They are the husband-wife team that created the television hits "Designing Women" and "Evening Shade," as well as the film biography of Mr. Clinton, "The Man from Hope," shown at the Democratic convention.

Mr. Emanuel said the occasion would emphasize "change, hope, opportunity -- a new beginning and also the reunited states."

There is still lingering evidence. Get a load of this one.

Today, the Clinton campaign is trumpeting an endorsement milestone, as Maria Cantwell (D-WA) became the 10th Senator to throw her weight behind Hillary. A statistic the campaign doesn't mention is that Cantwell is now the 6th Senator with financial backing from Norman Hsu and/or his network of alleged straw donors to endorse Senator Clinton.

Other Hsu-greased Democratic Senators already in the Clinton camp include Dianne Feinstein (CA), Robert Menendez (NJ), Mark Pryor (AR), Debbie Stabenow (MI), and Sheldon Whitehouse (RI). Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), one of Hsu's most richly funded politicians, has not made a formal endorsement, but his wife Ruth endorsed Clinton in July.

Down the Memory Hole: Media Glosses Over Cantwell Aide Story

One would think a United States Senate staffer who tries to arrange a sexual encounter with a 13-year old boy would merit a bit more attention, but the mainstream media has done a pitiful job covering this story. In fact, were it not for The Smoking Gun bringing the story to light, it's doubtful we'd have even heard about it.

What's even more pathetic is the accounts we locate in the nation's major newspapers today are all single paragraph items using the misleading AP account that labels James McHaney a former aide, which technically is true; but he was working in Senator Cantwell's office when he was busted.

The New York Times, in a blog post, devotes a paragraph to the story, which is the original AP dispatch with the misleading intro "A former aide to Senator Maria Cantwell, Democrat of Washington..."

The Washington Post, also in a blog post, downplays Haney as "only a low-level staffer," as if that minimizes his desire to have sex with a 13year-old boy.

The Boston Globe also devotes a single paragraph, with the same AP dispatch.

The New York Post relegates it to a Page Six item.

I'm not trying to play a game of gotcha here because this is a Democrat. Lord knows I have no use for any Republicans who engage in odd sexual behavior (Mark Foley, Larry Craig), and McHaney is not an elected official.

But the lack of coverage and misleading reporting where it is covered is really a shame. Child molestation is one of the more heinous crimes plaguing this country and the fact such a story is glossed over and barely reported leads me to believe the media just doesn't seem to care that there are child predators working in our government.

Of course, if McHaney's boss had an "R" behind her name, I suspect we'd see a bit more coverage.

Cantwell Aide in Kiddie Sex Bust

Looks like one James McHaney, an aide to Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-WA), has a thing for prepubescent boys.

A U.S. Senate aide was arrested Friday after allegedly arranging a lunchtime sexual encounter with a teenage boy, according to federal court records. James McHaney, 28, was nabbed by FBI agents after he arranged the afternoon liaison via a "cooperating witness" working with investigators. According to the below felony complaint and an accompanying statement of facts filed in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., the CW and McHaney were conversing online Friday afternoon when the CW asked whether McHaney was interested in engaging in anal sex with a 13-year-old boy. "I'll be there," McHaney allegedly replied. He later asked for a photo of the child with whom he and the CW would have sex and whether the boy had "any pubes." When told no, McHaney allegedly replied, "That's hot." McHaney was nabbed in the lobby of an unnamed "predetermined location," where he had arranged to meet CW. Until his arrest Friday, McHaney had worked as the D.C. scheduler for Democratic Senator Maria Cantwell. A caller to Cantwell's office was told late today that, as of last Friday, McHaney no longer worked for the Washington state politician.

Ex-aide to Cantwell arrested in sex sting

Uh, yes, he's now an ex-aide. But he wasn't when he was busted.

WASHINGTON (AP) - A former aide to Washington Democratic Sen. Maria Cantwell is in federal custody after being arrested on a charge of sexually exploiting a minor.

James Michael McHaney was arrested by FBI agents after he was accused of trying to set up a meeting with an undercover witness posing online as a teenaged boy.

Until his arrest on Friday, McHaney was a scheduler for Cantwell. He appeared in federal court on Saturday.

Update - Cantwell's chief of staff, Michael Meehan, just released the following statement on McHaney's arrest: "Late Friday afternoon the FBI informed our office that a Senate employee was arrested. The employee was immediately fired. Our office has and will continue to fully cooperate with the ongoing federal criminal investigation. Senator Cantwell has zero tolerance for crimes against children."

McHaney was at work when the online conversation with the FBI's CW took place, meaning Cantwell's office may be asked to turn over any e-mails or other records related to McHaney, if he was using Senate computers or phones to conduct his allegedly illegal activity.

Before joining Cantwell's office, McHaney worked for the 2004 John Kerry presidential campaign and before that as an aide to former U.S. Rep. Dick Gephardt, D-Ohio.

He was Kerry's travel coordinator in 2004.

Some on the left have been making the ridiculous claim that people are rushing to judgment on this case. Doesn't it appear the Cantwell people rushed to fire him? They obviously know something.
