Putin Hails U.S. Shield Move, Calls For More
Russian leader Vladimir Putin has welcomed a decision by the United States to scrap plans for a missile-defense shield but called on President Barack Obama to make further gestures to improve ties.

Putin, Russia's most powerful politician who now serves as prime minister, said Washington's decision to scrap the antimissile plans of George W. Bush's administration was a correct and brave decision.

Moscow had argued that the missile-defense system was a serious threat to its security because the U.S. equipment could be used to neutralize Russia's vast nuclear deterrent. The issue was a key sticking point in U.S.-Russia relations.

Putin told an investment forum in the Black Sea resort of Sochi he now expected further steps from Washington including the complete removal of all trade restrictions and full U.S. backing for a joint bid by Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan to join the World Trade Organization (WTO).

"The latest decisions by President Obama to cancel plans to build the third positioning region of the missile-defense system in Europe inspires hope and I do anticipate that this correct and brave decision will be followed by others," Putin said.

Putin said those decisions should include "the complete removal of all restrictions on cooperation with Russia" and the transfer of high technology, as well as U.S. support for the joint bid by Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus to join the WTO

Of course Putie wants unencumbered transfers of high technology. A generation or so behind the civilized world, little Vladi needs all the help he can get.

Soon after you ordered the Russian Federation attack on the Republic of Georgia the presidents of all four European Union member countries located on Russia’s borders gathered in Tbilisi to show their solidarity. This action speaks volumes in and of itself: Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, together with Ukraine profoundly mistrust and fear you and your country, as well they should, considering the long history of Russian expansion and subjugation of independent neighboring nations.

To remain with the Georgian example, this invasion is but a repeat of what happened in 1921, when my father Noe Jordania was President of Georgia. Then as now our country was resolutely democratic, which was and remains anathema to the Russian totalitarian regimes. That year, breaking a non-aggression treaty signed a scant few months before, the Russian communist Red Army supported by the Ossetians then living in Georgia attacked and occupied the Georgian Republic and forcibly incorporated it into the Soviet empire - just as the tsars did in 1805 under the pretext of protecting that tiny country from the Persians and the Turks. At various times in history, all the nations bordering on Russia suffered a similar fate.

On the domestic front, with few exceptions everybody fears you, Vladimir Putin, personally, knowing full well that anyone opposing or criticizing you runs the risk of being murdered like the journalist Anna Politkovskaya and the ex-KGB operative Litvinenko, poisoned and permanently disfigured like Ukraine’s president Viktor Yushchenko, jailed like the businessman Khodorovsky and many others, or at best badly beaten or roughed up like the world chess champion Gary Kasparov and his supporters who challenged the leadership in recent elections.

The sad thing is that while individually Russians can be and often are wonderful people, as a nation they seem unable to shake their acceptance and support of autocratic, dictatorial regimes. The events in Georgia demonstrate once and for all that Russia has remained basically the same throughout the centuries, whether it is called Tsarist Empire, Soviet Union, or Russian Federation. Hopefully, the whole world will finally realize that Russia never did and still does not function according to the democratic principles of the Western world. Russia is authoritarian, to say the least, and always has been.

Vladimir Putin, your official title is now Prime Minister, morphed from President after a travesty of an election where practically nothing changed in the power structure. You may see yourself as the forceful leader of a great country, but in reality you are very simply a ruthless dictator in the lineage of Stalin, Lenin, Peter the Great, Ivan the Terrible, and practically all your predecessors in the thousand-year Russian history. Your country and the world deserve better.

An apology, an explanation,and finally some news

First off let me start by apologizing for not posting here much in the last week. In way of explanation let me say that I do have a day job. Well that day job turned into a day and night job last week when a big project I was working on went to hell in a handbasket because one person didn't do their job. In todays' corporate world where the bottom line is the most important metric upon which a company is judged, and payroll is the biggest expense, many companies like the one I work for all too often trim the personnel roles so thin that there is just one person for a position, which makes it all the more critical that everybody do what they are supposed to do. So we went to work day and night to fix in one week what this one person was supposed to have been testing and evaluating for over 3 months. The best thing I can say about my job is the pay ain't so great but the hours are more then you handle!
So enough of the whining let's get on to something that you visit this site for, my insightful, witty, and definitive take on the news you can use. That is why you stop by ain't it?

In Georgia they reaffirmed the 2nd Amendment by granting more latitude in the carrying of a concealed weapon.

Among the public places where holders of concealed gun permits would be able to take a weapon under the altered bill are Georgia restaurants, public transportation and state parks.

The newspaper said public parking lots, churches and sporting events, which previously were among the proposed sites where gun owners could legally carry concealed weapons, were not included in the final version.

Which begs the question, if I can carry a gun on public transportation how do I get it from the public parking lot to the public transportation?

House Minority Whip Roy Blunt (R-MO) has some straight talk for the House Democrats led by Mama Nancy Pelosi.

"For a majority party that never wavered in its promises to wean America off foreign oil and put us on a path toward energy independence, these figures from the EIA are absolutely striking. Not only have Democrats failed to end our reliance on the Middle East for essential energy, they've actually helped grow that dependence to historic and dangerous new levels -- all because of their doctrinaire refusal to allow responsible energy production here at home.

"The result is a level of dependence on OPEC and the Middle East that we've simply never seen before -- not even in the darkest days of the Carter administration. But instead of working with Republicans to approach the energy issue from common sense perspective, this majority remains tied to a dogma that insists responsible energy development and sound stewardship of our environment are mutually exclusive endeavors.

Until they let us really pursue all of the various energy options available to us in this country this is only going to continue. Allow drilling in ANWR and the Gulf of Mexico, allow nuclear energy, build refineries and pursue the various alternative energy sources such as wind. Drilling and refining oil locally buys us time to develop the other alternative methods, and make no mistake about it, nobody nowadays wants to continue our dependence on an oil only energy policy and will work to replacing oil with other sources, but we need to make sure until such time as this is accomplished we can lessen our dependence from countries such as Venezuela, Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Stop right there. I didn't ask for you your personal political opinions. Hey, I love a heated political debate, but not in the grocery store, not in Jamba Juice, not at Nordstrom, not in a bar when I'm out with my girls trying to forget the war, and CERTAINLY NOT AT WORK. We tell co-workers about deployments so when we have to spend lunch hours running our asses off doing errands and taking care of the house, dog, and kids, they have an understanding. We do not tell co-workers and colleagues because we are giving an invitation to ramble about politics or because we so eagerly want to hear how much they hate the resident, esp. while we're trying to heat up our lean cuisines in the crappy office microwaves.

Intimidation and dirty tricks help Putin to massive landslide
President Vladimir Putin appeared to be heading for a landslide victory in Russia's parliamentary elections last night amid widespread reports that millions of citizens were coerced into voting for his party, United Russia.

Early results from the Central Election Commission indicated the party was leading with 63% of votes, with the Communist party trailing a distant second on 11.5%. Two other partners looked set to scrape into the State Duma: the ultra-nationalist Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, with 10.6%, and Fair Russia, another Kremlin-linked party, with 7.1%. Exit polls indicated similar figures.

Putie Kicks It Up A Notch

Russia yesterday threatened a new cold war-style arms race with the United States by announcing that it had successfully tested a new intercontinental ballistic missile capable of penetrating American defenses.

The missile tests follow months of anger in Moscow over the Bush administration's determination to install parts of a controversial missile defence shield in eastern Europe.

President Vladimir Putin has been incensed by the Pentagon's plans to site missile interceptors and radar shields in Poland and the Czech Republic. The row has contributed to the worst relations between Russia and the west for 20 years.

But as well as confrontational rhetoric from Mr Putin, Russia has also been preparing a secret military response, analysts said yesterday.

It's unknown how long it will take before Pelosi, Reid, Murtha & Co. scurry over to Moscow and jump in bed with Putie.

Putin Blasts U.S. Use of Force

Nothing like a KGB thug admonishing us for using force. Some people just don't understand the word chutzpah. It must really suck being a third-rate player on the world stage.

Russian President Vladimir Putin blasted the United States Saturday for the "almost uncontained" use of force in the world, and for encouraging other countries to acquire nuclear weapons.

In what his spokesman acknowledged were his harshest attacks on the U.S. since taking office in 2000, Putin also criticized U.S. plans for missile defense systems and NATO's expansion.

Putin told a security forum attracting top officials that "we are witnessing an almost uncontained hyper use of force in international relations" and that "one state, the United States, has overstepped its national borders in every way.

"This is very dangerous, nobody feels secure anymore because nobody can hide behind international law," Putin told the gathering.
