Herman Cain Wins South Carolina GOP Debate

Fresh off his success at the Americans for Prosperity forum in New Hampshire Herman Cain has scored another win in the Fox News sponsored debate in South Carolina last night.

How many people think Herman Cain won?

"Well we can stop right there."

I didn't watch the debate cause you know life interfered but I am glad to know Herman continues to impress and the rest of the media continues to ignore him.

Sean Hannity seems to be taking the results of straw poll the hardest.

Oh yeah, and you Republicans are racists too.

Alvin Greene Crashes His Own Campaign Reception, Scarfs Down Hors D'oeuvres, Acts Weird

Poor guy.

He ran the most disciplined, on-message campaign in the history of American politics, and he doesn't even get invited to his party's election night celebration. We can only assume the South Carolina Democrat party leaders are a bunch of hillbilly racists. Why else would they shun such an electrifying candidate? The man is solid gold, baby!

Turns out he was just running in the wrong state, that's all.

Now we will never find out why Jim DeMint started the recession.

How appropriate that Greene's all-too-brief legacy will be recorded for posterity in a comic book. Teacups must be so jealous.

The Women Of The GOP Continue Their March To Power

The women of the GOP continue their march to power. With the election now of Nikki Haley to be the Republican candidate for governor in South Carolina the Republicans are continuing to make inroads in one of the key Democrat voting blocks. What is even more impressive is the Republicans are showing through actions not just words to be the party that can attract, support, and elevate minorities.

One of the minor issues that Nikki was knocked for indirectly for was being from an Indian background, the country not the Native American type. Bobbie Jindal in Louisiana had already blazed the path and now she is poised to join him as another governor of a southern state that ain't exactly a good 'ol boy like so many of the blue noses in the north wish to portray residents of the south as.

The race warlords of the Democrat party are losing talking points with every one of these victories and through their overuse of the race card over the last couple of years, the significant role that women have taken in conservative politics, whether running for elected office or leading some of the groups such as the Tea Party, they are proving that if you want success and not just talk about it, upholding conservative principles is the way to go.

Maybe it is their maternal instincts kicking into overdrive now with what they see as the biggest threat to their children now being an overreaching and too powerful federal government. Maybe they don't take kindly to government trying to usurp their role as nurturer and care giver. Maybe it is because the feminazis have done such a good job of relegating so many men to beta male status that somebody has to step into the void. Whatever the reasons I am glad to see so many women poised to move into positions of power in the conservative world. I know the two women from Maine, Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe have been less then stellar examples of conservatives, but it seems the current crop of women are ready to set the record straight.

I just hope my state follows suit and elects Karen Handel as the Republican candidate for governor over the pack of old political machine good old boys that are nipping at her heels. The Georgia primary is in July and while she is trailing John Oxendine the current insurance commissioner, she is close enough to force a runoff but I wish she could just win it out right and avoid all this drama. Oxendine is just another cog in the old political machine in Georgia and has gotten to where he is in the race based solely on name recognition.

Anyway congratulations to Nikki and best of luck in the general election and hopefully Georgia will join you with a female GOP governor.

'In Politics, You Have to Stand Out'

What better way to stand out than raffling off an AK-47? You think Joe Wilson and Mark Sanford have brought enough attention to to South Carolina in recent months? Well, meet Dean Allen. I can imagine more than a few mushy anti-gun types will be getting all wee-wee'd up over this.
They crowded into a shooting range on Poinsett Highway on a day when heavy rains might have kept them home, itching for a shot at winning an AK-47 rifle - or at least shoot something that spit out a lot of lead.

Approximately 500 people showed up Saturday, some paying $25 for barbecue and ammo to take target practice with the weapon of their choice. The sweepstakes for the assault rifle, the type used against U.S. troops in Vietnam, was included at no charge.

The event marked the kickoff of Dean Allen's candidacy for state adjutant general. Allen, 58, of Greenville, said the "machine gun social" was his way of celebrating the second amendment and showing solidarity against gun-rights opponents.

And he's hoping it might win him a few votes.

"In politics, you have to stand out," he said. "If you stand out in something, you're going to get a little more attention."

Many came up to Allen to express their support. Allen, dressed in a blue blazer, gray slacks and a red, white and blue tie, said he is an Army veteran who served two tours in Vietnam.

Lisa Flaugher of Pickens said she came to the event at the Allen Arms Indoor Shooting Range to support Allen and try to win the AK-47.

"I want the gun for target practice," she said.

The shooting range is owned by Frank Allen, who is not related to the candidate.

South Carolina is the only state that elects its adjutant general, who administers the Army and Air National Guard, the State Guard and the Emergency Management Division. Incumbent Adjutant General Stan Spears, a Republican, hasn't said whether he will seek another term.

Allen said he served six years in the State Guard, but resigned in April in case Spears does run. Allen didn't like the idea of running against his top commander, he said.
If anything, Allen has a dry sense of humor.
"I like to tell people I'm not the country club conservative, Allen said. "I'm the machine gun one."
I like this guy.

Sanford: 'I've Been Unfaithful to My Wife'

Well, it looks like Mark Sanford can cancel and plans for a presidnetial run. Unless, of course he switches parties and runs as Democrat, whereby this would become a resume enhancer.
South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, whose mysterious disappearance last Thursday prompted national headlines, acknowledged this afternoon that he had an extramarital affair.

"I've been unfaithful to my wife, and I developed a relationship with what started as a dear, dear friend from Argentina," he said.

Sanford said he would resign as chair of the Republican Governor's Association.

"I've let down a lot of people," he added. "That's the bottom line."

Sanford's office initially explained Sanford's disappearance from the state by saying the governor was hiking on the Appalachian Trail.

His communications director, Joel Sawyer, said on Tuesday morning that he had spoken to the governor, who was returning from his trip and had been taken aback by the interest in the story. Sawyer did not indicate then that Sanford had been in Argentina, leaving the Appalachian Trail story in place.

Mark Sanford Returns ... From Argentina

Well, it turns out South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford wasn't off on an Appalachian hike after all.

He was in Argentina.

Huh?
Gov. Mark Sanford arrived in the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport this morning, having wrapped up a seven-day visit to Buenos Aires, Argentina, he said. Sanford said he had not been hiking along the Appalachian Trail, as his staff said in a Tuesday statement to the media.

Sanford's whereabouts had been unknown since Thursday, and the mystery surrounding his absence fueled speculation about where he had been and who's in charge in his absence. His emergence Wednesday ended the mystery.

Sanford, in an exclusive interview with The State, said he decided at the last minute to go to the South American country to recharge after a difficult legislative session in which he battled with lawmakers over how to spend federal stimulus money.

Sanford said he had considered hiking on the Appalachian Trail, an activity he said he has enjoyed since he was a high school student.

"But I said 'no' I wanted to do something exotic," Sanford said "... It's a great city."

Sanford, in a brief interview in the nation's busiest airport, said he has been to the city twice before, most recently about a year and half ago during a Commerce Department trip.

Sanford said he was alone on the trip. He declined to give any additional details about what he did other than to say he drove along the coastline.

Sanford, who was wearing a blue and white button down shirt and brown denim pants, said he left for Buenos Aires on Thursday night from Columbia International Airport and had originally planned to come back tomorrow.

Pantsuit Calls for Unity in Wartime

You almost have to give her bonus points for sheer audacity. One day she calls for us to get out in 90 days and now she wants us to be united?
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton said Monday that South Carolina should remove the Confederate flag from its Statehouse grounds, in part because the nation should unite under one banner while at war.

"I think about how many South Carolinians have served in our military and who are serving today under our flag and I believe that we should have one flag that we all pay honor to, as I know that most people in South Carolina do every single day," Clinton told The Associated Press in an interview.
Sure, it would be great if we could unite during wartime. There's just the nagging little issue of your party trying to undermine the President. Minor quibble, I guess.

UPDATE: Check out the latest Vent at Hot Air. In her own words.
