I understand much of the media isn't too bright, but could they at least master remedial math?

Obama Resigns 20-Year Church Membership

Barack Obama has resigned his 20 year membership in the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago in the aftermath of inflammatory remarks by his longtime pastor the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and more recent fiery remarks at the church by another minister.

But by most accounts, Obama has been a member since 1992.

Obama's spokesman, Robert Gibbs, gave no details, but said Obama had sent a letter resigning from the church he has attended for 16 years. Obama, who would be the first black U.S. president, was expected to make some comments on his decision later in the day, Gibbs said.

Of course, at last night's lame press conference, The Wizard of Uhhhs couldn't even tell us the last time he visited the Church of Hate.

Perhaps the media ineptitude stems from Obama's own statements.

"I have been a member of Trinity Church since 1992. I have known Rev. Wright for almost 20 years," he said at a news conference in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. "The person I saw yesterday is not the person I met 20 years ago."

Update: Nice to see the Associated Press is now dispensing advice to Obama.

Change! Obama Flees Crazy Church

Now there's a man of principle, willing to stand up for his friends and spiritual mentors.

Uh, not really.

Sen. Barack Obama's campaign confirmed Saturday that he has resigned from the Chicago church where controversial sermons by his former pastor and other ministers created repeated political headaches for the Democratic frontrunner.

The resignation comes days after the Rev. Michael Pfleger, a visiting Catholic priest, mocked Obama's Democratic rival, Sen. Hillary Clinton, for crying during the runup to the New Hampshire primary.

Previously, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, former pastor at Trinity United Church of Christ and Obama's minister for about 20 years, drew unwanted attention for the campaign when videos of his fiery sermons surfaced.
