Good News! 'Sensitive' Nuclear Missile Parts Lost

Um, I think we've got a little record-keeping problem here.

THE US military has lost more than one thousand "sensitive" nuclear missile parts, officials close to the Pentagon say.

A recent investigation condemning the US military's accidental shipment of nuclear cones to Taiwan also found that the US Air Force doesn't know what happened to many other nuclear parts, The Financial Times reported.

The US Air Force chief of staff and air force secretary were sacked by US Secretary Robert Gates after the investigation.

Mr Gates said the Pentagon would do a stocktake on every piece of nuclear weapon-related parts “to re-establish positive control of these sensitive, classified components”.

“(The investigation discovered) the gradual erosion of nuclear standards and a lack of effective oversight by air force leadership,” Mr Gates said.

I know all of the attention is given to Iraq and to a must lesser degree Afghanistan, but it is important to remember that we have service members stationed all over the globe. Everywhere they are and everywhere they go they take with them their humanity. When liberals want to portray the military as some sort of brain washed killing machine there are at least 100 kids in Kyrgyzstan that might take exception. You see these airmen reached into their own pockets to help fund the cost of heart surgery that is performed at a local hospital.
Next time you see a member of your local Code Pink chapter ask them how many lives they saved today. I don't mean in some sort metaphysical way, I mean real lives. All these self absorbed hypocritical liberals who find money to donate to political campaigns ought to reevaluate their priorities and send their money and talent somewhere where it will do some real good in the lives of people.
Or not, our service men and women are always there to pick up their slack.

30,000 Pounds of Mayhem Dropped on al Qaeda Hideouts

Michael Moore's freedom fighters took quite a beating today as the U.S. Air Force rained down 30,000 pounds of bombs on the human debris known as al Qaeda.

This comes 11 days after we whacked them with 40,000 pounds in northern Iraq.

U.S. warplanes dropped 30,000 pounds of bombs on a suspected al Qaeda safe haven south of Baghdad, the U.S. Air Force said, the latest in a series of air strikes aimed at disrupting the Sunni Islamist group's operations.

The U.S. Air Force said the operation, which began on Sunday night and continued on Monday morning, involved B-1 bombers and F/A-18 jets. It targeted Salman Pak, an area 35 km (20 miles) south of Baghdad.

U.S. and Iraqi forces launched an offensive against al Qaeda on Jan. 8 in Iraq's four northern provinces and Baghdad's southern outskirts. The U.S. military has declared al Qaeda the biggest threat to peace in Iraq.

"This particular mission targeted an area where al Qaeda laid obstacles in the way of improvised explosive devices and took up safe haven at the same time. They also used the land to traffic weapons and send fighters into Baghdad," the Air Force said in a statement.

Several houses booby-trapped with explosives were destroyed in the air strikes. Six U.S. soldiers were killed in Diyala province north of Baghdad at the start of the offensive when the house they were searching blew up and collapsed on top of them.

On the heels of this, we have a genuine flying pig moment, as the UN is acknowledging Iraq is now more secure (H/T Hot Air).

"We cannot ignore the recent improvements both in the security and political situation in Iraq," Staffan de Mistura, head of the U.N. Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), said in a speech to the Security Council.

Of course, Democrats will continue to ignore the improved situation, since they want us to lose.

U.S. Ships Arms to Lebanon While Terrorists Talk Trash

These guys do know how tho play the propaganda game, and Reuters dutifully plays along.

NAHR AL-BARED, Lebanon (Reuters) - The United States sent more ammunition on Saturday to Lebanon, whose army is struggling to defeat a group of heavily armed Islamist militants holed up inside a Palestinian refugee camp.

The militant Fatah al-Islam group, which has vowed to fight to the death, said in a statement the U.S. military supplies included nerve gas and cluster bombs.

"If they use unconventional weapons against us, we will respond with unconventional attacks everywhere," said the statement, read by the group's spokesman Abu Salim Taha.

A Lebanese military spokesman said he had no reaction to "these false allegations which are not worth commenting on."

Later, a purported leader of Fatah al-Islam issued a new threat in videotaped message carried on Al Jazeera television.

The group would fight "the Jews, the Americans and their loyalists," Shaker al-Abssi said, referring to Lebanese leaders.

Three U.S. Air Force cargo planes had earlier landed at Beirut's airport and unloaded ammunition and other equipment for the army, airport sources said. Six planes carrying similar military aid from the U.S. and Arab allies arrived on Friday.
