Johns Creek City Councilwoman Liz Hausmann wants to see the community awash in red, white and blue. And as in so many of these cases, it was once again a service member who has sparked this movement.
In a patriotism campaign that kicked off Thursday, the city is encouraging everyone to fly Old Glory in the run-up to July 4.
On Thursday, Spc. 1st Class Matthew Pargan-Manasse of the 82nd Airborne and Centennial High School presented a flag to Mayor Mike Bodker that had flown over the soldier's base in Afghanistan. Pargan-Manasse is the son of Rhonda Wilson, a member of the Board of Zoning Appeals. One point of contention: once again the news media shows their ignorance of all things military. There is no such thing a Spc. 1st Class. There are SPC (Specialists) also known as SP4 (Specialist 4th Class). It is the final enlisted rank before becoming a SGT in the Army.
The campaign includes a Memorial Day proposal to erect markers with the names of fallen veterans from Johns Creek along major roads.
Johns Creek is a very affluent suburb of Atlanta by the way. It just became it a separate city two years ago and it is located in Fulton County, which is the same county that Atlanta is in, so there was a lot of contention with them being a separate city since all of that tax revenue would now be stripped away from Atlanta. You will have to take my word on the fact that they are an upscale neighborhood, since there is no census data for them yet. I did find some info from a real estate site.
Oh wait, that's right, rich folks don't join the military. Of course an American flag is to Barack and liberals like him the same as garlic or crosses are to vampires.
