Memo to McCain: Squash This Idea, ASAP

OK, maybe I can accept him as Governor of New York, considering the mess the state is in.

But seriously, you need to rally the GOP base, and bringing on a grating nanny-stater who was only a token Republican while he was actually a member of the party is asking for trouble. And right now, you're in enough trouble.
Sen. John McCain praised Mayor Bloomberg yesterday - talking up Hizzoner as a strong candidate for governor and refusing to rule him out as a vice presidential candidate.

Asked during an interview with The Post whether the term-limited billionaire mayor should be able to seek re-election to a third term, he said there's been "some speculation" about Bloomberg trying to move to Albany.

"Do I think he could serve the state of New York and the country well? Of course," McCain said, during a sitdown at the New York Hilton.

He was also asked about having the mayor as his running mate.

"We don't talk about our vice-presidential possibilities," he said, but pointedly added, "I appreciate Mayor Bloomberg enormously and the great job he's done as mayor."
Stop sucking up already. Bloomberg is just looking for attention and you can bet your ass he'll endorse Obama.

I'm beginning to wonder if McCain is getting any good advice? Keep going down this road and he'll be getting blown out by the end of June, never be able to recover.

Shades of Bob Dole.

Oh, and if McCain thinks Democrats and the media will be treatinghh him with any respect, he'd better snap out of it.
THE Democratic assault on John McCain will go far beyond the "McBush" attacks tying him to President Bush - effective as that line is.

Democrats will relentlessly batter McCain from every angle - chipping away at the vaunted "McCain brand" of being a moderate, independent, straight-talking, maverick expert on foreign policy.

The first line of attack will go right for his supposed strength - by arguing that McCain can't be trusted on foreign policy.
