I always thought all those signs at the zoo reminding you not to feed dangerous animals were a bit superfluous since, hey, who would be
stupid enough to put their hand out in front of a carnivorous eating machine?
This animal bit the hand that fed him - and took a couple fingers, too.
At a Wisconsin zoo Friday, a 47-year-old grandmother ignored warning signs, putting her hand through fencing to feed an Asiatic black bear, police said.
Tracy Weiler, of Manitowoc, lost a thumb and forefinger, and her middle and ring fingers were partially severed. She was hopitalized [sic].
The bear also bit the woman's boyfriend, Lawrence Bosworth, 51, as he tried to free her from the bear's jaws. He suffered only minor injuries.
Her 3-year-old granddaughter wasn't injured.
To no surprise there was a mitigating factor.
Alcohol was a factor in the adults' behavior, officials with the mayor's office said.
Ah yes, nothing quite like getting drunk and taking the grandchild to the zoo. What could possibly go wrong?
