Wonder why we've seen so little coverage of the London riots here in the USA? Well, we wouldn't want to offend anyone.The roots of these appalling events are many and tangled, but for the moment let’s just focus on one: the way Britain’s educational establishment has cringed helplessly in the face of a gang culture that rejects every tenet of liberal society. It’s violent, it’s sexist, it’s homophobic and it’s racist. But it is broadly tolerated by many people in the black community, which has lost control of its teenage youths. Those youths scare the wits out of teachers and social workers – and some police officers, too. The threat of physical violence is ever present in many schools, and one can hardly blame individual teachers for recoiling from it. But we should and must blame those schools and education authorities that have made extra space for gang culture in children’s lives because they believe it is an authentic expression of Afro-Caribbean and Asian identity. We are seeing a lot of black faces on our screens tonight; it’s a shame that the spotlight can’t also fall on those white multiculturalists who made this outrage possible.Sounds a lot like Los Angeles following the Rodney King verdict.
Note also: Asian = Muslim.
Don't get me wrong, it's not just limited to blacks and Muslims. There are plenty of white anarchists involved as well. They know an opportunity to do do damage when they see it.
A shame they don't have the right to carry arms. Could stop a lot of the damage.
Get ready to see plenty of this when Obama loses in 2012.

"Asian" means "south Asian", that is, Indian, Pakistani, or Bangladeshi.
In this case it is being used as an euphemism for Pakistani or (I suspect) Bangladeshi Moslem. IIRC, some of the noisiest Islamists in Britain are Bangladeshi. There are also Middle Eastern Moslems and almost certainly African Moslems in the stew.
OTOH, Sikhs and Hindus are "Asian", but are not part of this problem.
It's interesting that "Black Bloc" anarchists are joining in the riots.That hasn't been seen in the U.S., or in France AFAIK. They don't seem to be afraid of the rioters.
As to what might happen if Obama loses in 2012: I live on the far north side of Chicago. This is not a poor area (though there are some bad patches, and is predominantly white and hispanic. Evanston, which is a block away, is very nice. On election night 2008, I knew when McCain conceded because of the wave of celebratory gunfire.
