Wonderful. Considering she's run Michigan into the ground, I'm sure the folks there will be glad to be rid of Jennifer Granholm. Unfortunately she'd get a promotion into a lifetime position.

Other court watchers have mentioned Elena Kagan, the former Harvard Law School dean whom Obama has nominated as solicitor general, Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Leah Sears.

The calculations would change, but only slightly, if Ginsburg's is not the first retirement. The president still would face strong pressure to name a woman or a minority or both.

As we all know already, Obama caves easily under pressure.

I guess appointments to the Supreme Court, unlike the presidency, do not require candidates to have been born in the USA.

Michigan's Incompetent Governor Calls Those Who Voted Against UAW Bailout 'Un-American'

Since she's Canadian, am I allowed to question her patriotism?

This bumbling hack led Michigan down the road to ruin long before the rest of the country went into recession and now she has the gall to start caling people un-American.

Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm (D) said it was "un-American" for senators to have voted against approving a bailout of troubled automakers last night, saying their vote may cause a recession to become a depression.

"It is unacceptable for this un-American, frankly, behavior of these U.S. senators to cause this country to go from a recession into a depression," Granholm said during a radio interview Friday morning.

Negotiations over an agreement to assist Michigan's Big Three stalled last night in a 52-35 vote on a procedural motion to bring up the package for a vote. Republicans largely opposed the bill after it failed to win concessions from the United Automotive Workers union on wages and benefits.

A surefire way to win over supporters.

This is just too much to fathom. Here we have the failed Governor of Michigan, Jennifer Granholm, who led Michigan into recession well before the rest of the nation, and Barack Obama selects her as an economic adviser.

Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm is one of 17 people appointed to help advise President-elect Barack Obama on the economy during his transition period.

Granholm will meet with Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden Friday in Chicago.

Other members of the "transition economic advisory board" include former Michigan Rep. David Bonior, Warren Buffett and former U.S. treasury secretaries under President Clinton -- Lawrence Summers and Robert Rubin.

Maybe she can advise what not to do.

Granholm may know diddly squat about economics, but she sure likes Obama's tax policy.

Michigan’s Governor, Jennifer Granholm, has supplied us with a real life example of what happens when you put Obama’s proposed tax and spend programs in place. Granholm’s destruction of the Michigan economy is a real life illustration of what is to be expected with an Obama victory in November.

Note that both Granholm and Obama learned their economic theory at Harvard Law School, even though Harvard Law doesn’t really teach economic theory. The theory adopted by Granholm and Obama is not the sole theory taught at that prestigious school. Why did these politicians adopt the particular theory they believe in? It might be due to the fact that neither spent their formative years in the US. (Obama in Indonesia, Granholm in Canada). They favor a more Socialist Europen Economic Model of the world. (Europe is presently in a recession and relative to the US, is in a more negative position) or it may just be that the Liberal wing of the Democratic Party has always favored this type of “progressive” tax and spend model. The conservative wing of the Democratic Party (Clinton White House) does not favor this “tax and spend philosophy”.

Detroit City Council to Governor: Uh, Could You Help Us Get Rid of Mayor Mac Daddy?

The comic farce in Detroit continues, as thug Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's future may now rest in the hands of Gov. Jennifer Granholm.

Gov. Jennifer Granholm's office on Tuesday accepted with little fanfare a politically charged request to remove Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick from office.

"The Detroit City Council's request of the governor has been received, and it will be reviewed," spokeswoman Liz Boyd said in a statement.

The Democratic governor faces a tough decision now that the council has formally asked her to remove Kilpatrick, a fellow Democrat, for misconduct in a whistle-blowers' settlement [That and about a thousand other things...--ed.]. State law allows the governor to remove an elected official from office for a number of reasons, including when an officeholder has been guilty of official misconduct.

Granholm so far has said she wants to allow the criminal process to play out. But that could drag on for months, prompting the council to ask the governor to remove the 37-year-old mayor.

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick Tuesday's request is a critical step in the council's actions to force Kilpatrick from office. In March, the council approved a nonbinding resolution asking Kilpatrick to voluntarily step down. Kilpatrick has steadfastly said he will not resign.

Yes, those nonbinding resolutions always hold so much sway on their intended targets. Just ask the UN.

The latest action comes after Kilpatrick tried to muscle in on City Council power by taking over distribution of federal grant money.

“This is outrageous, ridiculous, patently absurd . . . a low down evil attempt to strip council of power,” said Councilwoman JoAnn Watson.

Naturally, the AP omits any mention of Democrats in their dispatch.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich spoke some harsh truth about Detroit, and boy, does the truth ever hurt.

Gingrich calls Detroit a disaster, draws ire

Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich drew strong criticism from Detroit city leaders and school officials Monday after calling the city a "disaster" in a national network TV interview on Sunday.

Gingrich blasted the city of Detroit, Detroit Public Schools, the United Auto Workers and Michigan's unemployment rate during an interview on Fox News Sunday in which he talked about how he would transform Washington.

A spokesman for Gingrich, an undeclared Republican presidential candidate who has been ramping up his public appearances, singled out Detroit and its schools because they're the "best worst-case example" of bureaucracy and "a union structure that doesn't work."

"We should basically, fundamentally replace the Detroit school system with a series of experiments to see if they'll work," Gingrich said in the interview.

So rather than admitting their city is a disaster, and honestly, there's no denying it is, what do officials in Detroit do?

Well, they're not exactly rushing to defend their hellhole.

A UAW spokesman would not comment, and Gov. Jennifer Granholm's office did not immediately return calls. Detroit Federation of Teachers President Virginia Cantrell said Gingrich should focus on his own city and state and "leave Detroit alone."
