Unhinged TV Blabbermouth Nearing Test Pattern Ratings

It's funny, the last time I noticed this moron he was in this story about that OWS cretin crapping on the NYPD cruiser. Ironically, his ratings are now in the toilet.

Keith Olbermann is not in the witness protection program, but he might as well be. His show on Al Gore’s Current TV (America’s least watched network) has lost nearly a third of its viewers in four months.

Pretty impressive result for $10 million a year. That’s just his salary.

Countdown with Keith Olbermann was a major draw when it was on MSNBC. On January 21, the network took a big hit when Olbermann announced on air that that would be his last show for them. Then in June, Current launched Olbermann and Countdown.

It was no surprise that Olbermann drew a big audience for its early shows - averaging 106,000 viewers a night. Unfortunately, by August it was down to 79,000. Last month’s numbers were even worse. Olbermann’s average was down to 46,000 viewers and was in no danger of coming close to breaking into the top 30 cable TV news shows. None of the top 30 is all that impressive in terms of audience. For the third quarter of this year No.1 Bill O’Reilly had 2.8 million total viewers, while No. 30 - the 12 AM showing of Dr. Drew on HLN - had 435,000.

To be fair, even at 46,000 Olbermann is still drawing twice what Current was getting before him. Pre-Olbermann, the network was averaging about 23,000 viewers a day in 2010. That means nationwide they had fewer eyeballs than a CW affiliate does in a mid-sized city. (The 2010 numbers are the most recent because Current’s audience is so small that Nielsen only tracks them when the network pays it to and even then the numbers aren’t given to the public.)

He's already failed in so many places nobody should be surprised he's going down in flames here. But this time he may just wreck the entire network.

Since he's a big supporter of the OWS anarchists, he should return to Zuccotti Park and redistribute his salary. He sure hasn't earned it.

This time, his panties are in a bunch because Obama is feigning raising the Medicare eligibility age from 65 to 67, phased in over the next 500 years or whatever. Which I guess is tantamount to feeding old people "dog food" or something. Poor sap doesn't even recognize a hollow political gesture when he sees it, designed to make Obama look as if he's "bending over backwards" to compromise with Republicans.

Instead, Olbermann takes Obama at face value and unloads. See if you can get through this without busting a gut. I know I couldn't.

Crazed Man Resumes Preaching to Crickets

If Keith Olbermann takes to the airwaves on a station with test pattern ratings, does it make a sound? In case you didn't know, the deranged former MSNBC blowhard started a show Monday night on an obscure cable outlet and pretty much picked up where he left off: With a cast of washed-up lefties, kook fringe bloggers and rants about the usual suspects--Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, etc.

Yawn.

Keith Olbermann didn’t waste any time feeling out his adversaries last night as he resumed his “Countdown” show on its new Current TV home.

Five months after his abrupt departure from MSNBC, Olbermann front-loaded a clip of GOP Sen. John McCain criticizing fellow Republicans for what McCain called isolationist views on U.S. military aid to rebels fighting Libyan President Muammar Qaddafi.

When McCain wondered what Ronald Reagan would say, Olbermann cut off the clip and sharply declared Reagan would say “nothing. He’s dead, he was a lousy President and he helped keep Qaddafi in power.”

As Olbermann had promised, the new “Countdown” sounded a lot like the old one – sometimes bemused, sometimes cranky, sometimes outraged. His first guest list included old friends like filmmaker Michael Moore, who talked about Libya; former White House Counsel John Dean, who talked about potential financial conflicts of interest for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas; and reporter/commentators Kenneth Vogel and David Schuster.

John Dean? When was he last relevant, about 35 years ago?

Some of Olbermann’s targets were equally familiar. He resurrected his “worst person in the world” feature, which he has said he hopes will have a humorous rather than nasty tone, and third place on the first night went to Sarah Palin. Olbermann noted she had trademarked her name for, among other things, educational and entertainment purposes, and said, “Sarah Palin, educational purpose? That patent is an idiot.”

He criticized conservative talk hosts Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck and Mark Levin for integrating advertisers into their commentary. The fact he pronounced Levin’s name “LEH-vin,” rather than “Le-VIN,” suggested he may not be a regular listener.

Imagine: Having an audience large enough that you're able to integrate advertising into your show. What a novel concept.

Olberdork also had on the diminutive psychopath Markos Moulitsas, last seen humiliating himself in the wake of the Anthony Weiner scandal.

He did, however, let contributor Markos Moulits from The Daily Kos rip into MSNBC and, in particular, MSNBC “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough. The show ran four minutes long, in fact, largely because Moulits got on such a roll charging that Scarborough was allowed to “dictate” guests even on other MSNBC programs.

The fact the reviewer misspelled the name Moulitsas suggests he may not be a regular reader. That's his good fortune.

Charming TV Host Mysteriously Having Trouble Finding People to Work for Him: 'Everyone is Laughing'

Hard to believe such a people person like Keith Olbermann can't find anyone to work with him. The clowns at Current TV should have considered what a nasty SOB he is before hiring him.

Gasbag Keith Olbermann can't seem to wrangle staff for his Current TV show, "Countdown." Still in need of an executive producer and other staff, famously difficult Olbermann has crawled back to his contacts at MSNBC, many of whom he offended while there, to beg for staff. "Everyone is laughing," said a source. "They would never leave the network to work for him."

These folks are happy to work for a low-rated cable network rather than suffer with this megalomaniac. Who can blame them?

Cable Clown Who Nobody Misses to Return in June

In a move sure to please hundreds, cable nonentity Keith Olbermann will return to the airwaves on an obscure channel starting June 20. In a a nod to his creativity, the show will be called Countdown With Keith Olbermann. That sounds so familiar.

Keith Olbermann formally announced the start date and the name for his new program on Current TV Tuesday – and it sounds a lot like the old program on MSNBC.

At least the title and the location on the prime-time schedule do. In a presentation on his Web site, FOK News Channel, Mr. Olbermann declared, with some fanfare, that the new show will be called “Countdown with Keith Olbermann,” just as his previous show on MSNBC was, and it will begin on June 20 at his old time of 8 p.m. eastern.

If expropriating the title was not enough of a tweak to his former employers at MSNBC, in the video of his announcement on the website (FOK stands for “Friends of Keith” but is also an obvious play on his old rivalry with the Fox News Channel,) Mr. Olbermann also declared that this show, which he several times labeled a “newscast,” will be a place where “journalistic integrity and analytical honesty would never be compromised by corporate synergy.”

An MSNBC spokesman said the network would not comment on Mr. Olbermann’s decision to import the “Countdown” title.

Special Comment: Olbermann Gets His Cupp-uppance

No doubt Olbermann will feel about three feet tall after one of his Twitter fanboys brings this to his attention.

Twitter Sub-Moron Keith Olbermann Scrapes Bottom (Again), Suggests S.E. Cupp Should Have Been Aborted

Looks like someone roused the former MSNBC ratings albatross Keith Olbermann from his Manhattan hot tub to inform him that S.E. Cupp opposes public funding for abortion and Planned Parenthood (but I repeat myself).

To which the witless doofus replied.


He then tried to play dumb - and so convincingly, I must say I believe the man to be a true imbecile. He pointed out that only 3% of what Planned Parenthood does is perform abortions. Which is bullcrap, of course, but let's play along for a minute. You see, what he meant (of course) was "her parents would have helped the earth had they consulted PP for birth control."

Mmm hmm.

Birth control? Planned Parenthood's idea of birth control is Abort! Abort! Abort! and then letting clients take home a free condom from the lollypop bowl at the front desk:

Well, There He Goes Again

During today's announcement that Olbie has signed on with al-Gorezeera, they told a few big uns, you know, lies, such as this one reported by Politico's Keach Hagey.

But the pristine environment that Current TV provides comes with challenges. It’s much lower rated than Olbermann’s past home at MSNBC, though Gore was quick to point out that Current now has more subscribers (60 million households) in the U.S. than MSNBC did when Olbermann started “Countdown” in 2003. Still, Current TV is usually only available on the digital tier of cable boxes, whereas MSNBC, now available in 85 million homes, is typically part of a basic cable package.

Current TV is part of Time Warner Cable's Variety Pack. TWC customers do not subscribe, they're stuck with it. If I don't want al-Gorezeera, I have to cancel the package, losing in the process the quality programming of the Fox Business Network, Military Channel, Reelz Channel, Speed, Military History Channel and others.

60 million subscribers, al-Gore? Not hardly, but don't just take my word for it. What do the real numbers say? Fortune mag's JP Mangalindan included this little tidbit at the conclusion of his overview of Olbermann's effect on the bottom line of Current TV.

After two weeks of speculation, Keith Olbermann announced he will host a new nightly hour-long primetime news and commentary show on Current TV, the low-rated network co-founded by former Vice President Al Gore.

Though details of Olbermann's deal with Current TV have yet to surface, you can bet he's being paid no small sum, perhaps less than the amount he received from MSNBC, but Current TV is a far leaner operation to begin with. The question moving forward will be whether Olbermann's arrival translates to a bump in overall viewership -- Current TV brings in a paltry 23,000 prime time viewers a night -- and justifies his paycheck. Ultimately, Stern's relative failure for Sirius could prove a prescient indicator of Olbermann's trajectory, too. It remains to be seen whether resting the future prospects of a media outlet squarely on the shoulders of one public individual can be a recipe for success.

The Future for Olberdork: 'He and His New Partners Will Make an Exciting Announcement Regarding the Next Chapter in His Remarkable Career'

His remarkable career? What's remarkable is why anyone would employ an angry misogynist who's been fired so many times. And what's so remarkable going to some television nonentity that makes MSNBC look like a cable juggernaut in comparison?

Keith Olbermann, the former top-rated host of “Countdown” on the news channel MSNBC, will announce his next television home on Tuesday, and people familiar with his plans pointed Monday to a possible deal with the public affairs channel Current TV.

Neither Mr. Olbermann, his representatives, or executives from Current TV would comment on the move, but they did not deny that the channel, which counts former Vice President Al Gore as one of its founders, will become at least one partner in Mr. Olbermann’s future media plans.

One of the people with knowledge of the plans said Mr. Olbermann would have an equity stake in Current TV. The people insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized by their employers to comment in advance of the official announcement.

On Monday a public relations agency hired by Mr. Olbermann scheduled a Tuesday morning conference call for an announcement about his next job. “He and his new partners will make an exciting announcement regarding the next chapter in his remarkable career,” the agency wrote in an e-mail.

Al Gore and Olbermann: Perfect together.

'You Have Me Confused with John Boehner'

Nice to see the new tone firmly taking root on the left. In one corner you have a low-rated, unhinged MSNBC babblehead. In the other, the Speaker of the House. Not too hard to separate the two.

When Keith "Uberdork" Olbermann signed off at MSNBC last week, one of his colleagues burst into tears -- of joy. A network spy said Ed Schultz welled up with happy tears when he learned Olbermann was booted and that he'd be moved to the better 10 p.m. time slot as part of a resulting program shuffle. Schultz, who's known for random outbursts, such as when he yelled at staff, "I'm going to torch this [bleeping] place!" was told to ditch his "psycho-talk" segment in his new time. He said through an MSNBC rep, "You have me confused with John Boehner."

Speaking of Olberdork, we may finally have the reason for his precipitous slide into looneyland.

In the end, it wasn't Keith Olbermann's wacko politics, bipolar tantrums, or the Comcast takeover that set his MSNBC career on a collision course with an iceberg.

It was Ben Affleck.

A source formerly with the cable network said the end began in April 2009, when Rachel Maddow booked Hollywood's darling to appear on her show. Olbermann wanted the star for himself on "Countdown."

It was the first battle Keith didn't win.

"In protest, he refused to go on the air," said the ex-colleague.

It wasn't his first meltdown. A year and a half earlier, MSNBC had moved studios from the Jersey boonies to Rockefeller Center. When Olbermann discovered that his new office door had a built-in window, he went ballistic, phoning network President Phil Griffin and threatening to walk.

"I mean literally, Andrea. Over the door!" said the source. "Keith made such a fit about it. He was ugly and mean. But no one came to his defense.

"Part of me feels sorry for him. He can't blame alcoholism. That was just a normal thing for him to throw tantrums." The door was replaced.

But it begs the question: Can Keith Olbermann be saved? Or, like Norma Desmond, will he fade, screaming, into the sunset?

After he lost Affleck, Olbermann staged a three-day sickout. He later claimed that he vanished from the air to mourn his mother (and attend baseball games). But Olbermann's mom died nearly two weeks earlier, CityFile reported, and he didn't miss a day of work. Until Ben.

Last April, Olbermann went nuts when Donny Deutsch was hired as a guest host on MSNBC. He got Deutsch bumped.

"Donny was p- - -ed," said a source.

Shortly after that, Olbermann first proposed walking away from more than two years on his $7 million-a-year contract, as The Post reported. Then, just as suddenly, he stayed put. In November, he was suspended two days for making political contributions. But he never apologized. He truly believed he was being persecuted.

So earlier this month, when Olbermann again whined that he wasn't happy, MSNBC brass couldn't wait to be rid of him.

"He has no friends, nobody to go to," said one former pal. "He said, 'I can't take this! This is too much for me!' Well, guess what. Nobody cared."

Olbermann Notoriously Difficult to Work With: 'He Didn't Burn the Bridges Here; He Napalmed Them'

A swirl of questions Saturday surrounded political provocateur Keith Olbermann's abrupt departure from MSNBC, the network he helped transform - by dint of his fiery eloquence and on-air presence - into the left's answer to Fox News.

For all his skill as a broadcaster and his undisputed value to the network, the Olbermann quality that appeared suddenly most relevant was this: He can be difficult to work with.

Iconoclastic and mercurial, Olbermann has often clashed with his employers, condemning - sometimes quite publicly - directives with which he has disagreed. His departure fit a pattern that has marked his 32-year career. He has had frequent run-ins with his bosses, most of which resulted in Olbermann leaving a job, including an earlier flameout with MSNBC in 1998. His nearly eight years hosting "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" was by far the longest he's lasted in a job during his career as a broadcaster.

Who knows. Maybe if the guy wasn't unhinged he may have kept a job longer. Best quote comes from someone who endured working with the moron at ESPN.

Over the course of his career, Olbermann transformed himself into a star political commentator after achieving fame as a sports broadcaster. His skills in front the camera and behind the mike were evident early, but so was his divalike behavior. While working for a TV station in Los Angeles in the late 1980s, he broke a bathroom door in anger when the station aired a promotional segment he felt was not up to standards.

After working his way up through stations in New York, Boston and Los Angeles, Olbermann gained national prominence in the 1990s as co-host of ESPN's "SportsCenter."

When Olbermann left ESPN after five years in 1997, it was clear there were hard feelings on both sides. A network official was quoted saying at the time: "He didn't burn the bridges here; he napalmed them."

No wonder the left loves this guy so much. They're typically as infantile as he is. Speaking of which, some are now blaming Bush for his firing.

Apoplectic Olbermann Fans Seeing Black Helicopters Everywhere

After the Keith Olbermann departure from MSNBC last night, apparently because he got too greedy, we noted some of the amusing commentary coming from the left. Well, now the conspiracists are on the case: It's all about freedom of speech being muzzled or something.

Marvin Ammori, a professor at Nebraska Law and a former adviser to media reform group Free Press, said Olbermann's announcement "raises serious concerns" about free speech.

Of course since leaving the Cornell Agriculture School, this man-child has held seemingly dozens of television jobs, so I find it curious that only now there's some sinister motive behind it. Let's face it, the guy lasted seven years longer at MSNBC than anyone expected. Heck, eight years there has to be a record of some kind.

"Comcast proved expert in shaking down the government to approve its merger," he said. "Comcast's shakedown of NBC has just begun."

Merger opponents have previously charged that Comcast would likely tamper with MSNBC, reputed as left-leaning, to maintain a positive business relationship with Fox.

Olbermann, on the other hand, predicted in a tweet last year that the merger would make MSNBC more liberal.

So which is it? Are they more liberal now or silencing free speech?

Of course as with any left-leaning site, the comments are a hoot.

I was just remembering when Richard Clark, Clinton and Bush's terrorism expert, was giving his congressional testimony about how the Bush white house ignored all warnings of 911, COMCAST (at least here in southern Florida) completely blacked out the screen and audio for almost the entirety of his testimony. It was so obvious. It was creepy. Its' the same thing china, etc. does. Now COMCAST/republicans have NBC, and Olbermann is gone in less than a week. We are canceling our Comcast subscription.

The COMCAST/republicans? Oof.

This guy obviously wasn't paying attention when they taught grammar.

I like watching Keith's show it is very informative and is very straight forward unlike Fox News which many of you foolishly watch even though you know you are being lied to makes me think of the war in Iraq a war started basically on lies and was proven so yet we continue to fight there JUST DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE.

I respect Keith's journalism so much that I got hooked onto his show i was flipping through the channels a year and a half ago seeing what all the major news networks are talking about off course Fox news just made me switch the channel right away then same thing happened with CNN but not as swift as fox I then turned to MSNBC watched the whole episode of "Countdown With Keith Olbermann" and was immediately hooked not only can I see the true sense of journalism from this guy I can also see what he was bringing to the show was the Truth something foxnews is the opposite of.

Whew. Get all that? Believe it or not, he's just getting started.

Like Murrow, KO made too many powerful enemies. Murrow was ultimately dumped by the CBS suits. Whether it was the NBC suits, the Comcast suits, or some combination thereof is of little moment.

What matters here is that one of the most powerful voices we had is now silenced. To make matters worse, he's being silenced about his silencing. Unless and until he is able to discuss his termination publicly, none of us will know what happened here.

Low-Rated Gasbag Out at MessNBC

He won't be missed.

Keith Olbermann has just ended his Friday night episode of Countdown–and apparently ended his run as host of the show on MSNBC. The host thanked his Countdown staff and team at MSNBC, read a poem and bid viewers farewell, tossing his papers toward the camera for the “final time,” and saying “Good night, and good luck.”

MSNBC released a statement moments ago reading, in full:

“MSNBC and Keith Olbermann have ended their contract. The last broadcast of “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” will be this evening. MSNBC thanks Keith for his integral role in MSNBC’s success and we wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Perhaps this will help with the new age of civility. One less hate-filled maniac polluting the airwaves.

The lunatics at the House of Hate are besides themselves. The loons commenting at the Huffington Post are already blustering about canceling cable. Conspiracy kooks are frothing.

These people have really empty lives.
