Little Mikey Lupica: Why Did Obama Deal With These Crackpot, Anarchist Conservatives?

Little Mikey Lupica, ace jocksniffer, is just loving him some of the new tone, where name-calling is a thing of the past.

Oh, wait.
The opponents of President Obama - who sure didn't cover himself in glory throughout this process, who looks weaker than ever to his own base as he keeps trying to talk tough about the other side - are giddy that they have somehow turned him into the Accountant-in-Chief in the year before an election year.

These are the crackpots who have designated themselves to speak for Conservative America. Only they don't act like conservatives. They act like anarchists.

As long as they can damage Obama, they don't care about the collateral damage to the economy, or to the country. We don't just need rescuing from the political leaders of this country. We need rescuing from self-proclaimed patriots like this lot.
Yes, because as the majority in this nation, those crackpot anarchists don't have to live here or anything. None of the Obama economy has any bearing on their lives. They just want to do damage that doesn't cost them anything or something.

Let's not stop Lil' Mikey from getting his hate on.

As always, it comes back to Bush.
Their goal isn't so much reducing the deficit as getting the guy in the White House out of office, hiding behind the great lie of this whole debt-ceiling debate - that somehow this is all Obama's fault.

Only it is his predecessor, George W. Bush, who truly deserves a lot more blame in this than he is getting from Republicans, and their various propaganda machines in the news media.
The little guy laments "propaganda machines" in the media, then goes on to quote Paul Begala. Sweet.

Lupica: If That Dummy Bush Can Become President, So Can Palin

According to the miniature sportswriter, Palin's road to the White House is littered with potholes, mostly because she's really, really stupid, unlike a guy with a glaring factual error in his column.
Maybe nothing should surprise us at a time in America when Bush's popularity is as high it has been since he was starting wars under false pretenses. And when the only person who can knock him off the top of the best seller lists is Palin, whose new book comes out Wednesday.

Bush was the one-term governor of Texas who became President because his last name was Bush, because he was the affable son of a great American, because people liked him. Palin didn't even last a full term as governor of Alaska, quitting to become rich and famous and a darling of the media on the right the way Obama was the darling of the media from the other side in the last presidential election.
For a guy so busy telling us how dumb Bush and Palin are he might want to check his facts. Bush was elected governor of Texas twice.

But he and Palin are the idiots, not some little jocksniffer.
It is why you nearly fall down laughing when you hear Palin portraying herself as some victim of the media, even though the author of "America By Heart" - bless her heart - isn't trying to be funny. She certainly can't be talking about all the big, loud media guys in this country who get so tongue-tied and star-struck around her it's as if they're trying to ask her to the prom.

Her book will go to No. 1 and beat Bush. She has her own television show, produced by Mark Burnett, huge reality TV guy. Her fans try to fix "Dancing with the Stars" for her kid. She is Rupert Murdoch's current queen of all media. And her own best dance moves - about whether or not to run for President - are analyzed constantly.

Palin hates the media? It would be like Derek Jeter announcing he hates baseball.

It is unlikely that she can be elected President, mostly because she doesn't have an original thought in her head. But is it impossible, especially in the country we've got now? Are you kidding? Just look at how the current No. 1 on the best-seller lists, Barbara Bush's son George, is doing. All he had to do to make eight train-wreck years as President go away was go on a two-week book tour. Dick Cheney must be waiting for his own publication date like kids wait for Christmas.

All Bush had to do was be funny and self-deprecating, talk about how people were surprised he could "write a book, much less read one," and his approval ratings were right back where they used to be.

It had nothing to do with the book, by the way. Bush merely had to present himself as the good ol' boy people thought they were electing when he came out of Texas. Just like that, he found out he didn't even need to rewrite history. Everybody else was doing it for him.

Suddenly the dead and wounded of Iraq weren't supposed to matter. Or imaginary weapons of mass destruction. Or Katrina, or torture, or the economy holding as well on his watch as the levees of New Orleans.
No need to rewrite history when you have clowns like Lupica doing it for you.

Ironically, Palin actually has a journalism degree, unlike Lupica.

Lupica: Rahm Emanuel is the Smartest Guy Around or Something

Looks like Mikey Lilliputian is falling out of love with Barack Obama and is now pining for the oily Rahm Emanuel. Naturally, this "opinion" piece comes with the requisite cheap shots at Sarah Palin.
This time it was Rahm Emanuel in Chicago, making the speech that he hopes is the start of everything for him. This time it was Emanuel, a White House insider turned into a political outsider this fast, standing in the Coonley Elementary School, talking about a vision for the future for his city and really talking about himself.

"The question in this election is who has the experience, imagination and strength to see a better future," he said.

He is the tough guy from the Obama administration who now wants to be mayor of Chicago, then see where he can go from there. But you know he sees Chicago as just the beginning of something grander for him. This is American politics now, in the age of Barack Obama. The Obama who came from Chicago and really nowhere to become President.

They all think they can make it happen fast, as fast as the country turned around on Obama. The smart guys, and there is nobody around smarter than Emanuel, understand this has become Attention-Deficit America now, our society flattening out faster than it ever has in history, voters unable to distinguish between message and messengers in the age of Twitter and the Internet and the demagoguery, left and right, of cable TV.
This is how guys like Lupica rationalize the daily hatefests on MSNBC, by weakly claiming folks on the left and right are demagogues. He can't offer any examples, of course. Then he goes on to call Palin the "drum majorette for the Tea Party" and says she has all the substance of "substance of a Hallmark card" and then makes a fat joke about Chris Christie.

But Rahm Emanuel, he's the smartest guy out there.

Diminutive Jocksniffer Suddenly Concerned With Fortunes of GOP

I guess everything is so peachy keen in Democratic circles that a miniature sportswriter needs to concern himself with GOP politics in South Carolina. Seriously, Mikey, if your advice was needed I'm sure the powers that be in the Republican Party would be banging on your door looking for help.
There are landmarks all over our city named after LaGuardia and Javits and Rockefeller, names out of the city's great Republican past, when the party was one of intelligence, not fear-mongering and hate. When its membership included even the great name put to the Jackie Robinson Parkway.

The current Republican Party, one hijacked by hustlers and extremists, not only looks to destroy President Obama. It even starts to kill its own.

Rep. Bob Inglis, a voice of reason at a dumb, unreasonable time in American politics, is one of them. Inglis (R-S.C.) will be out of a job soon for not hating Barack Obama nearly enough. The irony, he says, is that he disagrees with Obama on almost everything.

Inglis, a conservative Republican from a state so red you worry it might set itself on fire, used to go after Bill Clinton with everything he had. But these days he comes up an even better American than a Republican, speaking his own mind, refusing to join a chorus of idiots and call Obama his enemy, or an enemy of the state. Inglis' state or anybody else's.

"I figured out early in the race I was taking a risk by being unwilling to call the President a socialist," Inglis says. "I'd get asked a question and they'd all wait to see if I'd use the word - socialist - they were throwing around. I wouldn't. Because I don't think that's what he is.

"To call him a socialist is to demean the office and stir up a passion that we need to be calming, rather than constantly stirring up."

Listen to the guy. He doesn't sound like some sore loser. Instead, Bob Inglis sounds like the ignored conscience of an increasingly crackpot party.
So if the GOP is "increasingly crackpot" and "hijacked by hustlers and extremists," would it not make sense as an arch-liberal to just step back and let them implode?

Funny when you have the senior Democrat member of Congress in Lupica's own hometown plagued by an ethics scandal that threatens to drag down his own party that this joker decides some hand-wringing over GOP primaries in South Carolina is in order.

Tiny Sportswriter: Subpoena Cheney Over BP Spill or Something

Poor little Mikey Lupica. So heartbroken his hero Obama has turned out to be an empty suit. Still that doesn't deter him from going on some rant about Sarah Palin, George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. Frankly, I'm amazed he somehow avoided taking a swipe at Rush Limbaugh for the BP mess. On the upside, even this most strident of Obama Kool-Aid slurpers has noticed the clay feet.
Barack Obama helps nobody, certainly not himself, biting his lip and doing some bad Bill Clinton impression. If he wants to channel a past President in his continuing response to the calamity in the Gulf of Mexico, it ought to be Harry Truman. Obama ought to start giving people hell instead of just talking about doing that.

The people in the gulf sure don't need an acting job from him, and a pretty bad acting job at that. Already over the past couple of months there have been too many times when the vacant look on the President's face has reminded you of a starlet trying to summon up the proper emotion to seeing something very, very sad.

Yesterday, Obama sent out another e-mail to the country, something else that helped him get elected. In it he is still trying to defend his administration's actions, as if somehow he knew from the jump that this explosion would poison the gulf for a generation.

"From the beginning, we have worked to deploy every tool at our disposal ..." the President writes.

No, he has not. This now sounds as pathetic as Bush desperately trying to bring himself back from "Heck of a job, Brownie." That ship has sailed, even as Obama talks about the 1,900 vessels he has in the water down there.
Then it's on to some cheap shots at the real enemies: The Republicans.
It is why the most shameless hypocrites on this thing, led by pep-squad captain Sarah Palin, are those from the "Drill, baby, drill" crowd. Most are hypocrites, anyway. The rest are probably criminals, those who have prospered in the culture of deregulation.
The rest are probably criminals. Nice to see thousands of people publicly indicted by a guy whose knowledge extends about two feet past the last locker room he's just inhabited.
So continue to give BP a much, much worse time, even after having spent too much time looking the other way on drilling like this the way Bush-Cheney did. Go after BP with every resource the government has, not just fines. Tell them that even if there are no criminal charges, they will never be allowed to drill so much as a golf hole in the waters of this country ever again.
Just wondering: How many major oil spills occurred during the evil Bush-Cheney reign?
Then hire a special prosecutor to look at every single step of the deregulation process of the past 20 years, all the way back to Clinton. The compassionate, feel-your-pain lip-biter.

Have that prosecutor finally disclose who participated in the National Energy Policy Development Group that Dick Cheney convened as vice president in 2001. Find out what special interests were represented and what deals were made and who might have gotten rich off them, just because nobody has been able to find out in nearly 10 years. Maybe a subpoena will make Cheney be more forthcoming.
I don't doubt for a second Obama and Holder would love to do just that. Anything to deflect attention from their incompetence.

One thing Lil' Mikey doesn't demand? That Obama give his BP money back. Probably has no clue about that, of course.

Diminutive Jocksniffer Wants MLB to Blackmail Arizona

Why not just recommend Major League Baseball to revoke the charter of the Arizona Diamondbacks? While we're at it, why not urge the NFL to cancel any games scheduled in Arizona this fall and make the Cardinals play all their games on the road?

I don't think the miniature sportswriter turned political analyst thought this one out too well. Probably just an emotional reaction to not getting his way, like most petulant children. Buffoons like Lupica are quick to call people racist and idiotic, but what should we call someone who urges blackmail in order to get his own way? Is he even aware an overwhelming majority of Arizona residents and Americans support this law?
Arizona's idiotic new immigration law does not officially go into effect until August, 90 days after the current legislative session ends in that state. That means for the next three months, a big new sport in this country will be watching big politicians try to run away from this issue, starting with the President of the United States. Maybe all of them are waiting for the whole thing to end up in front of the Supreme Court.

In the short run, however, the only way to stop a political hustler like Ariz. Gov. Jan Brewer is for other politicians in her state - and that ought to start with Sen. John McCain - to come to their senses about a bad law that invites racial profiling even though Brewer insists it will not.
So no matter how many times Brewer reminds people that the law will prevent profiling, a closed mind like Lupica just refuses to believe her. Barack Obama could tell him the moon is made of green cheese and he'd believe it, but anything out of a Republican's mouth is to be ignored. When did this myth about liberals being open-minded start?
There is nothing that needs to be done in the moment, other than issue the warning. But if both Democrats and Republicans really are going to run from this until after the November elections, trying to appease the white voters who love Gov. Jan Brewer and somehow not scare off the Hispanic vote at the same time, Commissioner Bud Selig - who owns a home in Arizona - has a chance to be better than all of them.

Selig has a perfect right to say that if the law stands, then the All-Star Game goes somewhere else.
I'm going out on a limb and suggesting Lil' Mikey hasn't read the law. If he did he might learn something.
The law will allow police to engage in racial profiling. Actually, Section 2 provides that a law enforcement official “may not solely consider race, color or national origin” in making any stops or determining immigration status. In addition, all normal Fourth Amendment protections against profiling will continue to apply. In fact, the Arizona law actually reduces the likelihood of race-based harassment by compelling police officers to contact the federal government as soon as is practicable when they suspect a person is an illegal alien, as opposed to letting them make arrests on their own assessment.
But hey, why pay attention to the guy who actually wrote the law when you've got your mind made up already?

Now suppose Mikey Lilliputian gets his way. Where would he like the 2011 All-Star game to be held? Maybe St. Louis? Atlanta? Cleveland? Cincinnati? Houston? Arlington? Kansas City? Baltimore? Denver?

Well, I've got some disturbing news for him and the rest of the boycott blackmailers. Those cities are all in states that may soon be passing laws similar to those of Arizona. So that'll make ten MLB cities ineligible to host an All-Star game if this punk is to get his way.

Now since the Super Bowl is scheduled for Dallas next February, I suppose we'll have to blackmail the NFL into moving it out of there so as not to offend Mike Lupica.

In fact, this is such a slippery slope, we may as well just stop playing sports altogether since every city may have laws on the books that offend someone.

Subtle Media Message of the Day

This is the image that accompanies the latest screed from jocksniffer turned political analyst Mike Lupica. A tired regurgitation of all the fabrications of the past couple of weeks, along with the requisite cheapshots against Sarah Palin and his usual harangues about "the idiots" on talk radio. Not quite as insane as Frank Rich, but still uninformed and filled with distortions.
At least here it is only vandalism about this President and the country's new health care bill, not phone threats left for some members of Congress. It is not an honorable old hero of the civil rights movement like Rep. John Lewis hearing the kind of racial insults he heard nearly 50 years ago in America. Or other congressmen being spat upon, all in the name of democracy at work.

At least here it is not Rep. Bart Stupak, a Democrat from Michigan, being called a "baby killer," or a brick through a lawmaker's window. It is not Sarah Palin on her Twitter page - this woman who officially puts the twit in Twitter - posting the following message:

"Commonsense Conservatives & lovers of America: Don't Retreat, Instead - RELOAD."

As always, you wonder where this patriotism and righteousness and Tea Party activism was during Bush-Cheney. You wonder if all the people who want to take to the streets - and to the television cameras now - decided they weren't needed for eight years because they thought the country was going so good. Or maybe they have just convinced themselves that the Obama who must now be stopped didn't just inherit this America, he created it.

This is no longer about political dissent. It is about storm trooper sound bites, and hate. This isn't the kind of honest debate on which our system of government has been built. It is vile, back-alley fighting, getting worse by the day, with no end in sight. People say that opposition to all Presidents, even the most unpopular white ones, sounds like this. No, it doesn't.
Apparently Lupica was too busy during the Bush years that he missed the nonstop protests du jour filling the streets. But now when the roles are reversed, well, this is just too much hate for the little guy to handle.

Really, it's amazing how much Sarah Palin frightens these media twerps. Maybe they're just used to their political heroes looking like Helen Thomas or Barbara Mikulski and just can't handle a good-looking woman who disagrees with them. Psychiatrists can probably make a killing for years analyzing these guys.

Mikey Lupica's Advice for Obama's SOTU Speech: Blame Bush

New York Daily News jocksniffer cum political pundit Mikey Lupica really has the pulse of the nation as we head toward Mr. TelePrompter's State of the Union speech Wednesday night. It seems Lupica was too busy of late slobbering over the New York Jets to realize Obama is in freefall and it has nothing to do with a "Republican jihad," as Lupica puts it, and more to do with Obama's ineptitude.
There is a State of the Union speech Barack Obama should give Wednesday night, needs to give and won't. There is a speech he should write and deliver without input from all those geniuses around him who didn't see Scott Brown's pickup truck coming until it ran them all over.

That speech would begin this way:

"There are people who say I was a far better candidate than I am a President, and you know what? So far, they're right about that. It is why I pledge to you tonight to become something more than the President of words.

"The theme of my campaign was 'Change We Can Believe In.' So far, I can see why even those who voted for me now wonder if that was one more empty slogan. But my hope, from this day forward, is to give our country change it can actually SEE. If I can't, I realize I'm on my way to being just one more American out of work."

Obama is better than he has shown, better than the vituperative coverage he gets from the right. Better than this Republican jihad against him, on health care and everything else. Better than a failed opposition party whose only plan is for this President to fail.

Still: In one year, Obama has allowed his enemies to turn "populist" into the new code word of American life, a heroic way to simply describe people who desperately wanted him out of office before he even TOOK office, who believe the only two people he could have beaten are the two he did: John McCain and Sarah Palin, captain of the right-wing pep squad.

The leaders of the "populist" movement? They are the ones who snarl into microphones, with laughable self-importance and an even more laughable moral certainty, vowing to take back America one state at a time. From whom? Americans? Wow. These guys should be going cave to cave in Afghanistan.
Of course the ones who "snarl into a microphone" refers to Rush Limbaugh, a man Lupica cannot get through one of these spiels without bashing.

Doe Lupica have the slightest clue why Obama is in such a predicament? It's not Sarah Palin, leader of the right-wing pep squad (nice misogynistic reference there, little guy), it's not Rush Limbaugh snarling into a microphone, it's Obama. He's the one to blame. Not anyone else. He's President, he owns his record.

Of course since Obama and his coterie of sycophants sixth-graders in the media refuse to acknowledge what a failure he's been it all goes back to one thing: Blaming Bush.

Obama is the one who needs to be a populist Wednesday night. A real one. There is a reason why people believed in him enough to elect him. He needs to remember how, and why, before it's too late. He starts Wednesday night by reminding the American people, in plain language, that it took the guy before him eight years to get us into this kind of mess. This President gets more than one year to get us out of it.
Sure, an elitist snob who condescendingly sneers about people driving trucks just a week ago is magically going to be transformed into a populist. Not because he is one, but because his bootlickers in the media thinks it's the only way he can save his failed presidency.

Lupica: All Hopenchange is Lost

Poor Little Mikey. He had such grand hopes for The One, but now according to the diminutive jock-sniffer, he's morphed into George W. Bush.
There was the press pass at the bottom of a drawer Sunday, from Jan. 9, 2008, Saint Peter's College, "Change We Can Believe In" written in great big white and blue letters. It was the first time I ever saw and heard Barack Obama speak in person, heard the highest language and ideals we had gotten from a presidential candidate since Robert F. Kennedy 40 years before him.

"We are at a defining moment in our history," he said that day.
Obama's oratory delivered from a TelePrompter that day was so stirring for Lupica he kept the press pass as a memento to be cherished. And now it's all over. Images of RFK have vanished. You almost want to help him wipe away the tears.

Now, nearly two years later, Obama is President and Tuesday night he isn't in a basketball gym in Jersey City. Instead, he gives a speech to the whole country from the United States Military Academy, using West Point like the backdrop of a movie set.

This speech isn't about the change he talked about as a candidate, or the audacity of hope. It is expected to be about hopelessness, the President perhaps increasing troops in Afghanistan by as much as 50% over the next year-and-a-half. Somehow he is expected to outline his exit strategy at the same time.

Sure he will.
You know when Obama is quickly losing his most ardent Kool-Aid drinkers then he's in deep trouble.
You know when we are going to be out of Afghanistan, where the United States has become just one more losing road team? Sometime around the 12th of Never. The more who die there, the more we send over. This is Obama's surge, just without him calling it that, because that would make him sound too much like the big war President before him.

If he makes this announcement about more troops Tuesday night, it is the beginning of Barack Obama's own approval ratings ending up where George W. Bush's did.

"We're going to finish the job there," he says, and really does sound more like Bush than ever.

Somehow Bush fooled the country into a second term. The way things are going for Obama, there isn't going to be one for him. It is why there is this growing sentiment, even from people who voted for him, that the gate-crashers at the White House aren't a former cheerleader and her husband (did the Secret Service learn defense from the Knicks?), it is the President and all those advising him.
Read the rest if you need another tedious exercise in talk of chicken hawks and Bush bashing. Some things don't change in Lupica's world. But he sure does sound as if he's jumping off the sinking Obama ship.

Update: A much larger guy named Mike also weighs in.
Your potential decision to expand the war (while saying that you're doing it so you can "end the war") will do more to set your legacy in stone than any of the great things you've said and done in your first year. One more throwing a bone from you to the Republicans and the coalition of the hopeful and the hopeless may be gone -- and this nation will be back in the hands of the haters quicker than you can shout "tea bag!"

Choose carefully, Mr. President. Your corporate backers are going to abandon you as soon as it is clear you are a one-term president and that the nation will be safely back in the hands of the usual idiots who do their bidding. That could be Wednesday morning.

We the people still love you. We the people still have a sliver of hope. But we the people can't take it anymore. We can't take your caving in, over and over, when we elected you by a big, wide margin of millions to get in there and get the job done. What part of "landslide victory" don't you understand?
Awww, fatboy still loves him. But not for long.

Democrat civil war, anyone?

Jules Crittendedn live-mocks Mikey Moore.

Lupica to Obama: How About Fighting a Real War Instead of the War on Fox?

You know things are bad when even a jocksniffer like Mikey Lilliputian realizes your disastrous War on Fox News is lost.
There is no greater waste of time in the Obama White House than its war against Fox News, because it doesn't just make this President look bad, it makes him look as if the other side has cut him down to size. He would be better off trying bowling again.

At least this is one war Barack Obama can end easily. All he has to do is sit down with Chris Wallace or Shepard Smith - do the President's men think Smith was some arm of the Republican Party with his reporting on Hurricane Katrina? - or Major Garrett, a Fox White House correspondent.

You want to drive up its ratings? Do it that way.

When you see this kind of new campaign from the President, you always want to ask him, or David Axelrod, or Rahm Emanuel, the same question: If the people banging away at you are such a danger, how come they couldn't stop you from being elected?

The only war about which Barack Obama should worry, one in which he could lose himself the way Lyndon Johnson lost himself in Vietnam, is the one in Afghanistan.
The coherent part of his column pretty much ends there as he goes off on one of his usual rants against Bush and Cheney, but more importantly Lupica joins a growing chorus of leftist media realizing Obama's ill-fated media war will only be claiming him as a victim. Best to let this one die now instead of dragging out a fight you can't possibly win. Sure, the angry left will be disappointed but let's face it: They're not going anywhere.

Admit defeat now and move on.

Kids in Broward County Forced to Watch Dear Leader's Speech

I saw a television report on this earlier today and despite the insistence of some school boards that viewing Barack Obama's address to schoolkids Tuesday is voluntary, it sure isn't in Broward County, Florida.
On Tuesday, September 8, 2009, Broward County Public Schools students will have the opportunity to watch an online national address from President Obama on the importance of education. The Web address can be seen locally in Broward County at 12 noon on the White House Web site (www.whitehouse.gov/live), and broadcast live on BECON Channel 24.

According to Superintendent James F. Notter, there have been several calls into the Superintendent’s Office suggesting and/or requesting that alternative space and activities be provided for those students wishing to “opt out” of this activity.

“As one of the premier major school systems in America, we have consistently encouraged civics education in the broadest sense, e.g., Kids Voting, elected officials participating in Career Days, countywide broadcast of Inaugural address, etc.,” said Notter. “Therefore, providing for a separation from this Address does not align with our practices and responsibility to provide a well rounded, quality education for all students. This is the first time an American President has spoken directly to students on the importance of education and the challenge to work hard, set educational goals, and take responsibility for one’s learning.”
The report went on to say kids would be punished if their parents kept them out of school that day.

So much from freedom of choice.

Other districts in Florida are allowing parents to make that choice.
School districts in the Tampa Bay Florida area will allow parents to opt their children out of viewing President Obama's address to American school children on Sept. 8. The mechanics of the opt-out vary from county to county. Some school districts will allow excused absences and others will send out "permission slips" requiring parents to sign off on opt-out or permission.

Hillsborough County schools will only air the speech if it is connected to the curriculum and will not notify parents of the speech. However parents can notify the school district if they want their kids opted out.

Broward County Florida, with its heavily Democrat party affiliation, will not allow parents to opt their children out of viewing President Obama's speech on Tuesday. According to Broward County school superintendent James Notter, Letting students opt out "does not align with our practices and responsibility to provide a well rounded, quality education."
Meanwhile, NY Daily News jock-sniffer Mikey Lupica says if you're opposed to this indoctrination, well, you're just a hater and a loon.
If you want to get a sense of just how haywire the country has gone lately, in less than eight months of the Obama presidency, start here. Start with the crazy people you saw on television this weekend, women actually crying that Obama's plan is really to brainwash her children, like he's invading her kid's middle school because some other President already invaded Iraq.

Of course. Who would want to put their children at risk this way, listening to a success story like this President's, listening to him describe the possibilities of both education and America, talking to them about hard work? But then so much of this comes from the same mouth-breathers who look at a health care plan as some sort of Socialist manifesto, and see opposition to it as a call to arms.
Nice. So if you oppose Obama, you're a mouth-breathing crazy person. One would think Lupica is talking down to people, but judging by his stature the only people he talks down to a dwarfs.
Pawlenty has thrown in with all those who have decided they have to hate this President on everything, already making his election seem like some kind of accident. You see Charles Krauthammer, one of the kings of the haters, writing that Obama "only" won by 7 points in a year when the Republicans blew up their own party and the economy at the same time. Right on, Krauthammer! No one, certainly not him, ever thought an African-American would come close to the presidency and now when Obama wins, he "only" wins by 7 points.

This is no longer about dissent, or disagreement with Obama's policies. This is something deeper and meaner, something that seems to come from a foreign country, not this one. How else do you explain a speech about education and hard work being seen as a threat?

Another idiot, Florida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer, has suggested that Obama is trying to "indoctrinate America's children to his Socialist agenda." Somebody needs to inform Greer, and fast, that Glenn Beck's time slot on Fox News hasn't opened up, at least not yet.
This confirms again Lupica is incapable of getting through a column without invoking Fox News or Glenn Beck. Somehow he managed to not invoke Rush Limbaugh, at least.

Update: Thanks to Dan Collins for sending along the perfect photo to accompany the story.

Rewriting History: 'Ted Kennedy Spent His Life Looking Out for Others'

The revisionist history and whitewashing of Ted Kennedy's life continues. Today's installment of inanity comes from none other than the diminutive Daily News sportswriter Mike Lupica, who never met a Democratic tush he didn't smooch.

Who knew St. Edward of Hyannis Port was so selfless? Naturally Kennedy's magnanimity helped him rise above the level of mortal men, especially those evil right-wingers on the radio. Can someone please help Lupica get through a column without invoking his tired canards about the right?
There was tragedy in his life, and constant loss. He helped create a terrible tragedy himself at Chappaquiddick. That does not change with his passing. Nor does this: Kennedy was a giant of this country, of public service, of the U.S. Senate, and he makes so many politicians he leaves behind look small enough to fit in your pocket.

To the end, he showed that differences in philosophy and ideology didn't have to bring more meanness and hatred to the country, as well as hate sells now on right-wing radio and television, as much of a growth industry as it has become.
Where is this rightwing televison he speaks of? I'd really appreciate knowing so I could watch some.

Also, if Lupica is so offended by all the hate and meanness, he may want a refresher as to when that all began. And it wasn't on the radio.

Instapundit links. Thanks!

Update: Thanks to Infidel Joe for reminding me of this blast from the past. Chilling stuff. But since it was on the evil "rightwing radio" I guess Mikey Lilliputian never heard it.

Why Sportswriters Should Stick to Sports

Whoever at the NY Daily News thought it would be a good idea to put Mike Lupica on the news pages must be fan of Keith Olbermann. This dreck authored by Lupica could just as well be a rehash of a Krazy Keith Speshul Komment spewed forth nightly on Olbermann's low-rated MSNBC show.

The two of them seems to have completely blocked out any memory of eight years of whining and protests directed at George W. Bush, the vitriol then dwarfing anything you see directed at Barack Obama.
So this wasn't an occasion when people with legitimate concerns and legitimate points to make were overwhelmed by the wing nuts and screamers who take their marching orders from right-wing radio and television and the Internet.
Where is this right-wing television Lil' Mikey speaks of? If someone knows of right-wing TV, let me know. I'd sure love seeing some.
Those idiots come to these town hall meetings more to be seen than heard, and think creating chaos makes them great Americans.

Those people have been convinced by the current culture that we are dying to hear from them, and the louder the better. People who think that all they need to star in their own reality series is a couple of TV crews. But then this is Twitter America now, where no thought is supposed to go unspoken.

We hear that all of this is democracy in action. It's not. It's boom-box democracy, people thinking that if they somehow make enough noise on this subject, they can make Obama into a one-term President.

The most violent opposition isn't directed at his ideas about health care reform. It is directed at him. It is about him. They couldn't make enough of a majority to beat the Harvard-educated black guy out of the White House, so they will beat him on an issue where they see him as being most vulnerable.
Violent opposition? Where has there been any violence other than Obama's SEIU goons beating up Kenneth Gladney in St. Louis? Maybe Lupica was off in Martha's Vineyard and missed that. Well, it wasn't reported on any leftwing television, so I guess he simply doesn't know about it.
With that kind of zealotry, screaming about government programs as if Medicare isn't one. It is why so many of them, all these wild-eyed red faces in the crowd, look completely certifiable, screaming about how Obama wants to kill Grandma, as if he's suddenly turned into Jack Kevorkian.

And by the way, if Sarah Palin is involved - Palin as uninformed as ever about these so-called "death panels" - the debate just got dumber, if that's possible. No kidding. If foreign policy was a brain-buster for Palin, something as truly complex as health care will make her feel as dizzy as if she just rolled down a hill.
Funny, but not long after Palin mentioned the supposedly non-existent death panels, they were quickly removed form the bill. But let's just take another cheapshot at Palin just for the heck of it.
So much of this comes from people who get all their information from right-wing media, or their cheerleading from political has-beens like Betsy McCaughey, people who don't see this as a fight for better and more inclusive health care, but who now see it as something grander and more noble, a fight to reclaim America from Obama.
The primary difference between Betdy McCaughey and the Mike Lupicas of the world is she's actually read the bill and offered constructive criticism.

The Lupicas in the media just rehash tired cliches. Maybe next time Mikey might want to take a look at the polls. It isn't just wild-eyed, frothing followers of right-wing radio opposing this mess.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows that 32% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-one percent (41%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -9.

Today’s update marks the highest level of Strong Disapproval for President Obama. Previously, the number who Strongly Disapprove had reached 40% three times in late July. Most Americans would prefer no health care reform this year rather than passage of the legislation currently working its way through Congress.
Might be time for Lupica to go back on vacation, or perhaps see a doctor. Seems he may have contracted the GWB43 virus.

From Jocksniffer to Bootlicker

If you ever needed a better example why sportswriters should stick to covering sports, look no further than this love note from Lil' Mikey Lupica to Barack Obama. Absolutely embarrassing.
Only it isn't enough for Barack Obama, the most important American President in nearly 80 years, to fix just Detroit, just banks and insurance companies of New York City, erase the unemployment here and in California and Florida and everywhere else.

It is also this: Once again being a President we can send out to the world without embarrassment, or fear. That is why this past week mattered so much in Europe. Having him be the face and voice of this country mattered, last week and next week and for a long time, as he restores this country's good name the way he tries to restore its confidence.
Yes, Obama is so popular around the globe the folks in Turkey are telling him to go home.

Meanwhile, or most important president in 80 years doesn't even realize Austrian isn't a language. Yes, finally a president we can all be proud of.
He is trying to do what George W. Bush never did, and that means build relationships around the world. But then the previous President was somebody who had no interest in a foreign policy that didn't involve empty threats or tough talk or finishing off Saddam Hussein because his dad never did.

In a world now obsessed with currency, Barack Obama created some with the other world leaders, first in England and then in France and Sunday in the Czech Republic. This was an American President who didn't think working with NATO was somehow beneath him.
Speaking of NATO, I'm so glad "our friends" are all on board with our effort in Afghanistan. Those 12 trainers from Spain will sure come in handy. Aren't you feeling the love?
There is no new law passed saying you have to agree with everything he says on the world stage, about Afghanistan or even that squirrely little wing nut in North Korea. But it was clear over the past week that these other world leaders, the smart ones, anyway, want to work with him. They want to respect the office of the President again - the one essentially shared for eight years by Bush and his war-loving vice president, Dick Cheney - after eight years when respect for the office and for this country seemed to shrink to the size of an iPod.
Could be worse. It could have shrunk to the size of Lil' Mikey Lupica.
They want him to succeed the way the majority of the country wants him to succeed, all the Americans who don't side with the screamers from the right, the ones who sell themselves as real patriots as they all seem to be selling books. Between crying jags, anyway.

These are the ones who giddily campaign against Obama day after day, on radio and on television, because it is good for ratings and good for business. And that is patriotism for suckers.
As opposed to what, the patriotism the left showed for eight years by calling Bush a murderer, the same way the left now says conservatives want to kill cops?

I guess that's Lupica's idea of patriotism.
The ones for whom he can't do anything right will say these were just more words from Obama, that words are all he is. It means they don't know what they saw in Europe last week, or what they heard, from a real American President, one who thinks his job is building relationships instead of doing what Bush did: tearing them down. But then everybody had to be good at something.
I guess Lupica missed those riots in Europe last week. Must have been too busy sniffing jockstraps to notice.
