Stupid: PETA Clowns Want to Replace Punxsutawney Phil With a Robot

For all the dumb stunts these crackpot radicals have offered up over the years, this one may be the most insipid.
The animal rights group PETA is demanding that America's beloved harbinger of spring, Punxsutawney Phil, be replaced with ... a robot.

The group says it's unfair of the Groundhog Day festival organizers to subject the furry critter to the bright lights and huge crowds that descend on the tiny Pennsylvania town of Punxsutawney every Feb. 2.

"Make the compassionate decision to use an animatronic Phil and retire the live groundhogs who are used for Groundhog Day activities to a sanctuary," wrote Gemma Vaughan of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

"Tradition is no excuse for cruelty."

William Deeley, president of the Inner Circle of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, said Phil is the most pampered groundhog in the world.

"This is just crazy," Deeley told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

"Phil is probably treated better than the average child in Pennsylvania. He's got air conditioning in the summer, his pen is heated in winter ... He has everything but a TV in there. What more do you want?"

Besides, Pennsylvania already has an animatronic "Gus the Groundhog," who is the "spokesanimal" for the state lottery.
In other animal rights wacko news, the kooks have also trained their sights on men's skating diva Johnny Weir, upset that the flamboyant Olympian is wearing fur.
On January 17 Johnny Weir did his free skate in the U.S. Figure Skating Championships wearing a bodysuit with a hint of fox fur on the shoulder. Animal-rights groups, predictably, are not having it. One such organization, called Friends of Animals, posted an open letter to Weir on their site asking him not to wear fur. They also contacted his costume designer, Stephanie Handler, yesterday. The AP explains:

Weir loves fashion, and his costumes tend to be on the avant-garde — some would say extreme — side. When the three-time U.S. champion redesigned his free skate costume before nationals, he had Handler add a tuft of white fox fur to the left shoulder.

Weir said he thought the costume was "lovely," but Friends of Animals disagreed.
Here's a look at Weir's "lovely" outfit.

Pity Poor PETA

Poor, poor PETA. They decided to carry their scare tactic, childhood nightmare inducing show to an elementary school in Savannah, GA in advance of the Ringling Bros Circus which is coming to town later in the month. Their purpose was to raise awareness of animal cruelty supposedly perpetrated by handlers on circus animals.

One word comes to mind. FAIL!
"I want to go to the circus! I want to go to the circus," Torrie Harris said excitedly as she got her hug and circus animal cruelty book from the PETA protesters.

Her mother, LaWanda Sanders, wasn't particularly moved by the "Animals Belong in the Jungle" activity book her daughter received. Sanders said she already has plans to take her children to the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus when it comes to town later this month.

I am really disgusted with these PETA activists who more and more are targeting children, mostly of an elementary school age, with their often gruesome propaganda. Their arguments fall on the deaf ears of anybody who still has at least two working brain cells.

Kudos to the school also for doing their part in protecting the children under their charge.
But an end-of-the-day announcement over the school's loudspeaker warning children not to speak to strangers - even those in costume - foiled the animal rights group's plans to reach hundreds of impressionable minds.

PETA, leave the kids alone!

PETA Criticizes Flyslayer Obama: 'We Support Giving Insects the Benefit of the Doubt'

You just knew these clowns would chime in after Barack Obama ruthlessly murdered a fly on national television.
PETA has a few words for President Obama: Brush, don’t kill.

After the President very publically swatted and then killed a fly during an interview with CNBC yesterday, the outspoken animal rights group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) said they wished Obama had served a better example.

“We support compassion for the even the smallest animals," says Bruce Friedrich, VP for Policy at PETA. “We support giving insects the benefit of the doubt."

Friedrich says PETA supports "brushing flies away rather than killing them" and was disappointed that the President had gone ahead and squashed the pesky fly.

This afternoon PETA sent a Katcha Bug, a device which traps bugs and allows their safe release back into nature to the White House.
Of course since PETA is a bunch of far-left kooks, they still manage to suck up to the Great Flyslayer.
Friedrich admits that despite his fly-swatting ways, the President has been a champion for animal rights in the past. PETA claims to be pleased by Obama’s denouncement of factory farming, Canadian seal hunting and Michelle Obama’s stance against wearing fur.

Shameless PETA Clowns Glom On To Derby Tragedy

By now you've all seen or read about Kentucky Derby second-place finisher Eight Belles, who broke both ankles following Saturday's race and was immediately euthanized on the track.

Well, leave it to the morons from PETA to finagle their way into the news on the heels of this sad event.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is seeking the suspension of Eight Belles' jockey after the filly had to be euthanized following her second-place finish in the Kentucky Derby on Saturday.

Gabriel Saez was riding Eight Belles when she broke both front ankles while galloping out a quarter of a mile past the wire. She was euthanized on the track.

PETA faxed a letter Sunday to Kentucky's racing authority claiming the filly was "doubtlessly injured before the finish" and asked that Saez be suspended while Eight Belles' death is investigated.

"What we really want to know, did he feel anything along the way?" PETA spokeswoman Kathy Guillermo said. "If he didn't then we can probably blame the fact that they're allowed to whip the horses mercilessly."

Eight Belles trainer Larry Jones said the filly was clearly happy when she crossed the finish line.

"I don't know how in the heck they can even come close to saying that," Jones told The Associated Press on Sunday. "She has her ears up, clearly galloping out."

Guillermo said if Saez is found at fault, the group wants the second-place prize of $400,000 won by Eight Belles to be revoked.
I have no idea what this moron Guillermo was doing while the race was going on, but she clearly wasn't watching.

If she pulled her head out of her ass for two minutes, she's have seen Eight Belles cross the finish line in second place. Had the horse been injured during the race, she obviously wouldn't have finished second, if she had finished at all.

It's times like this when such radical groups lose what little credibility they have.

PETA needs to just dummy up and go back to harassing mink farmers, or whatever it is they do for a living, and leave horse racing to the experts.

Shut Up and Sing, Paulie

On second thought, just shut up. Can't think of a song he's produced in at least 30 years I care for.

He's sounding loonier than his wacko ex-wife.
Former Beatle Paul McCartney is urging the world to go vegetarian in a bid to fight global warming and is surprised more green groups don't promote it.

In an interview with the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), McCartney said the global meat industry was a major contributor to global warming. A transcript of the PETA interview was given to Reuters.

"The biggest change anyone could make in their own lifestyle would be to become vegetarian," McCartney, a longtime vegetarian and advocate of vegetarianism, said. "I would urge everyone to think about taking this simple step to help our precious environment and save it for the children of the future."
It's always about the children.

I guess McCartney missed the news about the earth getting cooler the past ten years.

Meanwhile, despite a nonstop propaganda campaign, Algore realizes his efforts have been worthless. Which means only one thing: more propaganda.
In an exclusive interview with The Sun, Mr Gore – hailed as the world’s leading green campaigner – said recent polls had found that while people rate climate change as a “serious problem”, some ranked it lower than clearing up dog mess.

“When politicians walk down the pavement, four or five of every ten people they meet ask, ‘What are you doing to solve the climate crisis?’ he said. “If you ask people their opinion, more than two thirds will say, ‘It’s a very serious issue, we’re responsible for it. We need to take action’.

“But then if you give them a list of 25 or 30 issues and ask them to rank them in order of seriousness, climate change comes at the bottom or near the bottom.

“I remember one poll where it came under dog litter. People are more likely to respond to problems that can be felt – terrorism, traffic jams, anything that activates the responses in an immediate way.
Dog litter. Exactly what I think of Gore.

PETA to Gore: Mix in Some Salads, Fatboy

It appears the only thing bigger than Al Gore's ego and energy bill is his waistline.

Now the kooks from PETA are speaking out.

Activists take Al Gore to task on his diet
He may be the hero of the environmental movement for his crusade against global warming but Al Gore is about to be targeted by animal rights activists over his carnivorous contribution to greenhouse gases.

Citing United Nations research that the meat industry is worse for the environment than driving and flying, animal rights groups are directing a campaign at the former American vice-president's diet.

When he delivers a lecture on global warming in Denver next month, protesters will display billboards bearing a cartoon image of Mr Gore eating a drumstick and the message: "Too chicken to go vegetarian? Meat is the No 1 cause of global warming".

The campaign is being organised by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) and is backed by other animal rights groups.

"For Al Gore, the fact that his diet is a leading contributor to global warming is a highly inconvenient truth - pun intended," said Matt Prescott, a spokesman for Peta.

Mr Gore won an Oscar this year for An Inconvenient Truth, the documentary based on his lecture-circuit presentation detailing how man is allegedly destroying the environment.

But he is now under fire for failing to highlight the impact of meat-eating.

According to recent UN Food and Agriculture Organisation research, animal agriculture generates 18 per cent of the world's greenhouse gas emissions - more than the 13.5 per cent produced by all forms of transport combined.

Mr Gore's eating habits have previously drawn attention only because of his dramatic weight fluctuations.
I haven't noticed much fluctuation. He just seems to be getting larger every time I have the misfortune of seeing him.

They Still Have Rove to Kick Around

Perhaps when Karl Rove announced his departure from the White House, he thought he'd finally get away from the kooks that have hounded him all these years.

Well, leave it to the media whores from PETA to harass him some more.

Can't the man just go hunting in peace?

Rove's dove hunt has feathers flying
Animal activists are snarling at Karl Rove now that the departing White House political wizard will spend the Labor Day weekend dove-hunting.

The president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, Ingrid Newkirk, faxed an ankle-biting letter to Rove on Wednesday after washingtonpost.com columnist Mary Ann Akers disclosed his holiday plans.

"Dear Mr. Rove," Newkirk wrote. "From your frequent hunting trips to your bizarre little rap at the Radio and Television Correspondents' Association dinner [where Rove joked that he liked to "tear the tops off of small animals"], it is clear that you lack the ability to empathize with other living beings. You consistently prove that you care less about animal welfare than Alberto Gonzales cares about habeas corpus."

Newkirk said she couldn't see how Rove could find sport in killing "little birds who are the international symbol of peace. You will leave politics to spend more time with your family only to destroy the families of other species."
You can sense where this is heading.

Hitler ... Stalin ... Rove.

Can you imagine the reaction when he gets a book deal? Hopefully it's with a Murdoch enterprise, just to rub it in their faces a bit more.

Anyway, the pitiful Newkirk couldn't resist just hammering away at Rove. You mention hunting, there always room for another cheesy Dick Cheney joke.
Her parting shot: suggesting that Rove bring along Deadeye Dick Cheney — who infamously tenderized a friend's face with buckshot while quail-hunting.
Freshen up the material, Ingrid.

Not one to take it laying down, fabulously hot White House spokesbabe Dana Perino shot back.
Returning fire, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said, "Will PETA issue the same press release when the Democratic presidential candidates go out hunting in the next year to get their obligatory ‘I'm a hunter too!' pictures taken? Just hope they know how to hold a gun properly — it's a bummer for a candidate if a mistake is made for all the voters to see."
You suppose that's a veiled shot at this moron?

PETA Springs Into Action, Denounces Hamas

No, not for killing Jews. They don't have a word to say about that.

Animal rights group slams "shocking" Hamas TV clip
JERUSALEM, Aug 15 (Reuters) - Animal rights group PETA said on Wednesday it would protest to a Hamas-run TV channel after a clip from a programme showing animals being abused appeared on YouTube, prompting scores of complaints from viewers worldwide.

"It's shocking and sickening," said Martin Mersereau, manager of the domestic animal abuse division of U.S.-based People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

Speaking to Reuters by telephone, he said PETA was drafting a letter of protest to the Gaza-based al-Aqsa television station, which aired the show -- aimed at teaching children not to abuse animals -- last week.

A segment of the programme was posted on the YouTube video-sharing Web site after being recorded and translated by pro-Israeli group Palestinian Media Watch.

An official at the TV station declined immediate comment.

The YouTube clip shows an actor dressed as a bee mistreating a cat and lions at Gaza Zoo. In the studio, he is reprimanded by the programme's host, who cautions children against mimicking the bee's "terrible" behaviour.
A slight fissure in the leftist-Islamic convergence.
