The touchy feely Progressives who are all about caring for the least among us and constantly extolling the virtues of being a big tent group and welcoming of all views have once again decided to crucify one of their own.

Jane Hamsher, who is no saint, appeared on the Fox program Fox and Friends this morning, and while I saw her I had the television muted because quite frankly I could care less what this hate-filled human being had to say, but I was still surprised to see her on the show.

To me it only made sense, since if she wanted to get whatever message she was promoting out and reach the most people, Fox News is where you go. Why bother with one of the liberal leaning networks where at best you have an audience of half a dozen, and half of them landed on the channel by accident.

Ms. Hamsher runs a web site called Firedoglake; look it up yourself, I won't link to it since quite a bit of the content is not safe for work or small children. She was one of the driving forces a couple of years ago to get Ned Lamont elected to the Senate to replace Joe Lieberman. You may remember this picture she Photoshopped putting Lieberman in blackface.

Well, since she has appeared on the program the lefty blogosphere has been ripping her apart. Such a loving group of people.

She belongs to the same collective which last week was blasting Lieberman for his statements that he might not vote for the Senate healthcare bill and demanding an investigation into the business and social activities of his wife.

What a difference a few days make. Now she is the one advocating the signing of a petition to send to Congress to kill the bill, while conveniently forgetting that just a few days ago they wanted to slow roast Sen Lieberman over a fire.

It hasn't been a good day for the Democrats. It started by having one of their champions going right into the heart of the enemy camp and ended with the announcement of a Democratic house member from Alabama announcing he was switching parties.

It seems like just yesterday we were being told that the Republican Party was in total disarray and on the verge of collapse.

Actually, he's enduring a severe case of Lieberman Derangement Syndrome and is lashing out like a petulant child. Think about it, however. A couple of chomps from those jaws could do some damage to the state's shoreline.

Lieberman has become the scourge of the left for withholding his vote on healthcare reform due to the inclusion of the public health insurance option and the Medicare buy-in proposals.

There is no provision in the state of Connecticut to recall public officials.

I'm sure Joe Lieberman is just crushed he will no longer be dining with a bunch of pasty-faced pukes like Harry Reid.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has decided that Sen. Joe Lieberman (ID-Conn.) — one of Republican presidential hopeful Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) top supporters — can no longer attend Democrats’ weekly caucus lunches or the biweekly chairmen’s lunches used to formulate policy, senior Democratic aides said Tuesday.

Frankly, since he's an independent, I don't know why he's bothered haveing lunch or doing any business with these petty tyrants. Lieberman has been a pariah on the left ever since he vanquished nutroots candidate Ned Lamont in 2006 and the sooner he completely separates himself from them, the better off he'll be.

Question the Timing: McCain Had Advance Knowledge of Colombian Hostage Rescue

It's McCain's July surprise. By the end of the weekend, the nutroots will have this a full-blown conspiracy.

Mr. McCain said that he and his traveling companions -- Senators Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina, and Joseph I. Lieberman, independent of Connecticut – had been informed by Mr. Uribe on Tuesday evening in Cartagena that the Colombian government planned to try on Wednesday to rescue a number of hostages, including the Americans, Thomas Howes, Marc Gonsalves and Keith Stansell. All three were military contractors who were abducted in 2003 in Colombia when their plane went down.

The talks about the planned rescue, which Mr. Lieberman described as detailed, delayed the start of a news conference on Tuesday that Mr. McCain held with Mr. Uribe outside the presidential retreat in Cartagena. In the news conference, Mr. McCain gave no hint of what he had just learned, although he mentioned the American hostages and praised Mr. Uribe’s efforts to battle FARC.

The fact Joe Lieberman is along for the ride will no doubt send the Kos Kidz over the edge.

McCain's Cabinet Possibilities

Well, since the GOP is resigned to having John McCain as the standard bearer come November, it's never too early to begin speculating what his cabinet would look like.

We've already heard the rumblings about Tim Pawlenty as VP, and I have to admit that's not a bad selection. From a possibly winnable blue state, young, relatively conservative and apparently no baggage, though I'm sure the Democrats will rifle through his writings from as far back as third grade to find some dirt.

Maybe they'll pin the Minneapolis bridge collapse on him.

So now I see this item on possible members of a McCain cabinet, and like a few of the possibilities.

Of course, the names floated are white men, which is sure to anger certain people who've never had anything to be happy about, apparently.

At this early stage, the names and faces that would flesh out a McCain White House remain pure speculation. After all, McCain insists he hasn't started seriously thinking about a running mate yet. And there's still a general election to win against a yet-to-be-determined Democratic opponent. But political experts and analysts already are contemplating what a McCain Cabinet might look like.

Some common guesses include well-known McCain allies and even past rivals in key positions:

• Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., in a prominent job, possibly even secretary of state.

• Former Sen. Fred Thompson, R-Tenn., as attorney general.

• Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani as homeland security secretary.

• Former Sen. Phil Gramm of Texas as treasury secretary.

• Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee as health and human services secretary.

For his part, McCain last week said he'd be looking for Cabinet members who "just share my conservative philosophy and views: less government, less regulation, lower taxes." But he also volunteered that conservationism would be a priority, saying he would hope "to preserve the great natural treasures of the West and our state and do whatever we can to protect our environment."

"I return to kind of the Teddy Roosevelt outlook toward things," McCain said.

Lieberman as secretary of state is intriguing. It's safe to say he'd be more a friend of Israel than his predecessor, which is comforting.

Fred Thompson as AG and Rudy Giuliani as DHS are certainly choices I could live with as well.

As for Huckabee, he may have a chance if he gives up on his impossible bid for the nomination.

One thing I have a major problem with, however, is the idea of closing down Guantanamo Bay. That's opening up a huge can of worms a President McCain can live without. Still needing to bring conservatives back into the fold, such an idea will not go over well in the least.

So, after twice singing Koslam über Alles and donning our brand new Comrade Che beret, we gleefully went to Koslamistan and cherry-picked some comments made about the little kommandante soothing his po' widdle wuffled feathers and Joe Lieberman's deliberate dissing of the New Face of the Democrat Party.

Roberts to leave hospital Tuesday

WASHINGTON - Chief Justice John Roberts was expected to be released from a hospital in Maine Tuesday, a day after suffering a seizure, a Supreme Court spokeswoman said.

Roberts, 52, plans to continue his vacation at a summer home in Maine, said spokeswoman Kathy Arberg. Doctors found no cause for concern after evaluating Roberts, she said. President Bush's chief spokesman, Tony Snow, reported earlier that Roberts told Bush in a phone call that he was doing fine.

Consumer Confidence Hits 6-Year High

NEW YORK (AP) -- Consumer confidence hit a six-year high in July, a widely watched gauge of sentiment showed on Tuesday, as Americans shrugged off falling home prices to focus on a healthy jobs market, instead.

The New York-based Conference Board said that its Consumer Confidence Index, rebounded to 112.6, its highest level since August 2001 when it recorded a 114.0 reading. That compared to a revised 105.3 in June. The July 24 cutoff for the preliminary survey of 5,000 U.S. households was before last week's stock market tumble, however.

Experts everywhere are confounded.

NEW YORK - Stocks surged Tuesday, as strong earnings from General Motors Corp. and Sun Microsystems Inc. helped Wall Street extend its recovery from last week's plunge.

Lieberman escalates attack on Iraq critics

Ever since Connecticut Democrats refused to back him for a fourth term in Congress, Joe Lieberman has been burnishing his independent credentials in the narrowly divided Senate while becoming increasingly critical of the Democratic Party on the war in Iraq.

Lieberman, the Democrats' 2000 vice presidential nominee, insists he is not actively considering joining the Republican Party. But he is keeping that possibility wide open as his disenchantment grows with Democratic leaders. The main sticking points are their attempts to end the war in Iraq and their hesitation to take a harder line against Iran.

"I think either [Democrats] are, in my opinion, respectfully, naive in thinking we can somehow defeat this enemy with talk, or they're simply hesitant to use American power, including military power," Lieberman said in a wide-ranging interview with The Hill.

"There is a very strong group within the party that I think doesn?t take the threat of Islamist terrorism seriously enough."

Ned Lament was unavailable for comment.

Democrats Kill 'John Doe'

Democrats cut 'John Doe' provision

Congressional Democrats today failed to include a provision in homeland security legislation that would protect the public from being sued for reporting suspicious behavior that may lead to a terrorist attack, according to House Republican leaders.

"This is a slap in the face of good citizens who do their patriotic duty and come forward, and it caves in to radical Islamists," said Rep. Peter T. King, New York Republican and ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee.

Republicans wanted the provision included in final legislation, crafted yesterday during a House and Senate conference committee, that will implement final recommendations from the September 11 commission.

Mr. King and Rep. Steve Pearce, New Mexico Republican, sponsored the provision after a group of Muslim imams filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against US Airways and unknown "John Doe" passengers. The imams were removed from US Airways Flight 300 on Nov. 20 after fellow passengers on the Minneapolis-to-Phoenix flight complained about the imams' suspicious behavior.

On March 27, the House approved the "John Doe" amendment on a 304-121 vote.

"Democrats are trying to find any technical excuse to keep immunity out of the language of the bill to protect citizens, who in good faith, report suspicious activity to police or law enforcement," Mr. King said. "I don't see how you can have a homeland security bill without protecting people who come forward to report suspicious activity."

While the conference is not likely to meet again, Mr. King noted the conference report has not been written and says he will continue discussions with Sen. Joe Lieberman, Connecticut independent and chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, to insert the "John Doe" language.

Sen. Susan Collins, Maine Republican and ranking member of the committee, announced afterward she will attempt to attach a similar bill to an education measure currently under debate on the Senate floor.

Lieberman Suggests Bombing Iran, Left Comes Unglued

The insane left hasn't quite come to grips still with Joe Lieberman defeating Nutroots candidate Ned Lamont last year, and today Lieberman said taking out Iran's nuke facilities is a course of action we should pursue if necessary.

The United States should launch military strikes against Iran if the government in Tehran does not stop supplying anti-American forces in Iraq, Sen. Joe Lieberman said Sunday on Face The Nation.

"I think we've got to be prepared to take aggressive military action against the Iranians to stop them from killing Americans in Iraq," Lieberman told Bob Schieffer. "And to me, that would include a strike into... over the border into Iran, where we have good evidence that they have a base at which they are training these people coming back into Iraq to kill our soldiers."

The Indepedent former Democrat from Connecticut said that he was not calling for an invasion of Iran, but he did say the U.S. should target specific training camps.

This is not sitting well with the inmates at Democratic Underground.

Lieberman can't pull his head out --- he's a war mongering idiot who can't see that his and BushCo's bullshit bravado simply creates new generations of hatred and anger towards America.

Lieberman to Dems: Think Carefully

Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman has words of caution for the Democrats in today's Opinion Journal, though asking them to think may be a tall order, since their pathological hatred for President George W. Bush apparently clouds rational thought.

Two months into the 110th Congress, Washington has never been more bitterly divided over our mission in Iraq. The Senate and House of Representatives are bracing for parliamentary trench warfare--trapped in an escalating dynamic of division and confrontation that will neither resolve the tough challenges we face in Iraq nor strengthen our nation against its terrorist enemies around the world.

What is remarkable about this state of affairs in Washington is just how removed it is from what is actually happening in Iraq. There, the battle of Baghdad is now under way. A new commander, Gen. David Petraeus, has taken command, having been confirmed by the Senate, 81-0, just a few weeks ago. And a new strategy is being put into action, with thousands of additional American soldiers streaming into the Iraqi capital.

Congress thus faces a choice in the weeks and months ahead. Will we allow our actions to be driven by the changing conditions on the ground in Iraq--or by the unchanging political and ideological positions long ago staked out in Washington? What ultimately matters more to us: the real fight over there, or the political fight over here?
