Yankees, Diamondbacks Agree on Unit Trade
The Yankees yesterday got younger, a bit less cranky, and, in the long run, probably better.
They got Randy Johnson out of their face when they tentatively agreed to send the 43-year-old home to Arizona for serviceable reliever Luis Vizcaino and three minor leaguers: pitcher Ross Ohlendorf, a right-handed sinkerballer (the key player in the deal for the Yankees), righty pitcher Steven Jackson and shortstop Alberto Gonzalez.
Johnson's a Hall of Fame pitcher, that was never the question. But he had to be one of the biggest boors to ever hit the New York sports scene. Sure, it can be difficult playing here. But never did anyone earn so much money and turn off so many people. He won't be missed.
