Is New York Up To The Task?

A line in the sand has been drawn in New York. At stake not only a seat in the House of Representatives, but what direction will the mainline Republicans choose. While a lot of attention is being paid to the governors races in New Jersey and Virginia this congressional race in for the 23rd district in New York carries far more importance.

Within the Republican party there are two candidates. One has been endorsed by the old traditional Republican political machine and is receiving boatloads of cash from the national party. The other candidate is espousing the more traditional conservative principles that used to be what the Republicans stood for. Which one of these candidates wins could very well determine the fate of the Republican party.

Michelle Malkin has been all over this race keeping us informed of what is going on in this race and today the true conservative candidate, Doug Hoffman has posted an entry on her site.

While it is unusual to write about a political race which technically has no direct impact on me, this one portends to have an impact on all registered Republicans.

I hope the folks of this congressional district are paying attention, and I hope they send a message to the national Republican machine that we want conservative candidates and not Democrat lite. If the message is sent, it is then up to all conservatives to see if it is received or do the old party bosses continue to do business as usual.

If instead the Democrat lite candidate wins, then what does that say to the conservative base of the Republican party? Will they desert enmasse to form a third party or simply just drop out altogether?

The biggest problem with the Republican party seems to be they look for candidates designed to not lose rather then promoting conservative values. How many football games have been lost because one team went into a prevent defense only to have the opposing team march down the field and score thereby securing a win?

So to the Republicans in the New York 23rd district, a big task has been laid before you. Which way does the Republican party go? The answer could very well rest with the results of your election.

Choose wisely.
