Why Did the Chicago Bid Fail? It Was Based on Emotion

It's one thing to snooker dopey liberals with election bids based on emotion. That's what Democrats do, play on the emotions and fears of voters.

It apparently doesn't work with the International Olympic Committee, however. The Obamas and Oprah figured they could just show up and dazzle the committee members without having a real plan in place.

Epic backfire.
Kevan Gosper, an I.O.C. member from Australia, said Asian voters might have banded together for Tokyo in the first round, at Chicago’s expense, and he worried about the damage to the relationship with the U.S.O.C.

“I’m shocked,” Gosper told The Associated Press. “The whole thing doesn’t make sense other than there has been a stupid bloc vote. To have the president of the United States and his wife personally appear, then this should happen in the first round is awful and totally undeserving.”
Awww, isn't that a shame. Well, maybe they should have had some details.
The 10-person Chicago bid team, led by Mr. and Mrs. Obama, put on a presentation heavy on emotion and visual images without getting too deep into the details of the bid.

“To host athletes and visitors from every corner of the globe is a high honor and a great responsibility,” said Mr. Obama, whose Chicago home is a short walk from the prospective Olympic Stadium. “And America is ready and eager to assume that sacred trust.”
Apparently many in Chicago weren't, despite what the left is spinning.
A poll released this month by the Chicago Tribune showed residents almost evenly split, with 47 percent in favor of the bid and 45 percent against; that's a drop from the 2-1 support the newspaper found in a February poll.
By the way, if you doubt this bid wasn't heavily larded by emotion, get a load of what Michelle Obama had to offer. Suddenly America isn't so mean after all.

Update: Thanks to Allahpundit for the link. Plus commenter Rides a Pale Horse has this:

Ouch.

BTW, RPH points out that's the Chicago municipal flag in the image. Hahahahaha!
