'Most People Will Say a Palestinian Endorsement Will Definitely Be Harmful'

I'd have to agree, a Palestinian endorsement probably would harm Obama. Just as Obama praising a terror supporter would probably harm him, which is probably why the LA Times refuses to release the video of Obama praising a terror supporter.

So is it any wonder the United States media doesn't run stories like this?

For every point that U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama gains ahead of the Nov. 4 election, a young student in a sparsely furnished room an ocean away is taking enormous satisfaction.

For months, Ibrahim Abu Jayyab has been working through the night, telephoning American voters at random to plead in broken English that they support his favourite candidate.

Never mind that most of the people Mr. Abu Jayyab calls don't even know where the Gaza Strip is, much less understand why this man with heavily accented English crackling down the phone line should care about the U.S. presidential race.

"Obama is the best candidate. He has leadership qualities, he is charismatic. Once he said the Palestinian people are suffering most in the world," Mr. Abu Jayyab says, his eyes heavy after another late night, already back at the computer that is his pride and joy in a life otherwise dominated by poverty. On screen is an enormous photo of Mr. Obama in a classic pose [I wonder if it's that pose above?-- ed.] - which has, perhaps, inspired Mr. Abu Jayyab's recurring dreams, of Mr. Obama putting a hand on his shoulder and promising peace.

A media student at Gaza's al-Aqsa University, Mr. Abu Jayyab, 23, has chafed at the strict religious rule enforced since the Islamist Hamas organization took control 17 months ago. A heavy economic embargo, imposed by the international community after Hamas's refusal to recognize Israel and renounce violence, has collapsed Gaza's economy and squelched any hope of finding a decent job after graduation.

Like most in Gaza and across the Arab world, the young man blames U.S. President George W. Bush for the mess, in part for his unwavering support of Israel. So when a young, black American senator emerged as the front-runner in the Democratic primaries, he found himself hoping for change, even here in the never-changing Middle East.

Mr. Abu Jayyab, who speaks little English and at first left only practised messages on telephone answering machines, has since enlisted the help of 15 friends to use computer VOIP programs, including iCall, to randomly call U.S. telephone numbers. They frequently meet in a nearby Internet café, where they work in fear that Hamas forces or even more radical groups will burst in.

Of the dozens of calls they'll make each night between midnight and 4 a.m. - early evening in most of the United States - Mr. Abu Jayyab and his friends say they may only speak to one out of every 10 households. They've encountered answering machines, small children, and often people impatient with their Arabic-accented English.

But they press on, encouraged by small victories from people who promise to consider the request. Last week, they intensified their campaign, selecting area codes to target the swing states of Ohio and Pennsylvania. "We think if Barack Obama wins, maybe he will make a difference here for the better," said Omar Tawil, 25, a friend and computer science student who set up the computer programs necessary for their nightly mission.

It's possible that their efforts - entirely volunteer and completely unsanctioned by the Obama campaign - may do as much harm as good. Mr. Obama's campaign team has publicly distanced itself from these campaign calls, after rival John McCain's charges that Hamas supports Mr. Obama.

And in neighbouring Israel, where the Democratic Party has had a difficult time selling a man named Barack Hussein Obama, the chairman of their Israel for Obama campaign cannot quite praise Mr. Abu Jayyab's earnest efforts.

"I suppose they can say what they like," Yeshiya Amariel said, before worrying out loud about the smear campaign insinuating that Mr. Obama had ties to radical Islam. "Most people will say a Palestinian endorsement will definitely be harmful."

No kidding. Problem is it'll be too late.

On This Day In 1980, Carter Led Reagan By Eight Points

Cheer up, all you poll watchers.

This isn't over yet.

There have been only 2 instances in the past 14 elections, from 1952 to 2004, when the presidential candidate ahead in Gallup polling a week or so before the election did not win the national popular vote: in 2000 (George W. Bush) and 1980 (Jimmy Carter). And in only one of these, in 1980, did the candidate who was behind (Ronald Reagan) pull ahead in both the popular vote and the Electoral College and thus win the election.

Scroll down at the link for results dating back to 1952. While Reagan trailed Carter by eight points among registered voters in the Gallup survey on October 26, 1980, he won going away by 10 points.

Is the same likely to occur this year? Probably not, but keep in mind things are very volatile right now and plenty of embarrassing revelations are making people take notice of what's going on. Granted, while the media was also biased in 1980, it wasn't nearly as bad as the pro-Obama media has been this year. Plus, as inept as Carter was, he didn't have nearly as much baggage as Obama does.

McCain has plenty of work to do, as he trails in a number of battleground states, but despite the efforts of the media to declare the race over, there are still eight days to go.

Is John McCain the next Ronald Reagan? Far from it. But Barack Obama shapes up as being far more to the left than Jimmy Carter, truly a frightening scenario.

For what it's worth, the IBD/TIPP poll has Obama up 46.5-43.3% with 10.1% still undecided. The RCP average has Obama up 7.3 average, but that's skewed by dubious NY Times and Newsweek polls. Today's Rasmussen poll has Obama up by five. Not insurmountable, but very little time to work with.

Maybe if Obama's friends at the Los Angeles Times release that potentially explosive video they're sitting on, things could shift.

Heartbreak: Newspaper Circulation Continues to Plummet

Sure, they'll blame economic conditions, but another major reason why people are tuning out is the unrelenting bias of major newspapers.

There's no longer any denying it. Do you need any more evidence than this?

For those holding out for some improvement in print circulation, this morning brings disappointment. The Audit Bureau of Circulations released the latest figures for the six- month period ending September 2008 and the report shows major drops in circulation at the big metros.

According to ABC for the 507 newspapers reporting in this period, daily circulation slipped 4.6% to 38,165,848 copies. For the 571 papers, Sunday dropped 4.8% to 43,631,646 copies.

For comparison purposes, in September 2007 reporting period, daily circ fell 2.6% and Sunday was down 4.6%.

Across the country, publishers have put in place plans to cater to core readers and subscribers. It's too expensive to bulk up circulation in unprofitable areas such as third-party, newspapers in education and bonus day copies. Not in the core market defined by the newspaper? You are out of luck at least for the print edition.

All daily averages below are for Monday through Friday. The percent change compares this September period to the same period last year.

Daily circ at the New York Times fell 3.5% to 1,000,665 copies.

The Wall Street Journal (as we reported last week) was virtually flat, up about 1,800 copies on a daily basis to 2,011,999. USA Today was also up a fraction of a percent to 2,293,310 copies.

But The Washington Post's daily circulation declined 1.9% to 622,714. Sunday was down 3.1% to 866,057. At the Los Angeles Times circ decreased a little more 5% daily and on Sunday to 739,147 and 1,055,076, respectively. Daily circulation at the Chicago Tribune was down 7.7% to 516,032. Sunday declined 5.7% to 864,845 copies.

The San Francisco Chronicle lost 7% of its daily circulation to 339,430 copies while Sunday was down a hair more, 7.4% to 398,116. The San Jose Mercury News was down slightly, 1.9% to 224,199 and Sunday was down much more, 4.3% to 241,518.

On the East Coast, daily circulation at The Boston Globe plummeted 10.1% to 323,983 copies. Sunday circ was down 8.4% to 503,659. The Baltimore Sun’s daily circ declined 5.9% to 218,923 while Sunday fell 3.8% to 350,640.

Daily circulation at The Philadelphia Inquirer slipped 11.0% to 300,674 copies. Sunday plunged 13.7% to 556,426. At the Daily News in Philly, daily circ slipped 13.2% to 97,694.

If you ever need any evidence why circulation at the Philadelphia Inquirer is shrinking, look no further than this lunacy.

Classy: Palin Hung in Effigy

It's all acceptable, of course, since it's Halloween season. Otherwise, it might be considered to be in poor taste.

Sarah Palin is not considered to be a friend of the gay community, but the Republican vice presidential candidate seems to be looming over the West Hollywood Halloween Carnival.

First, a rumor got started that city officials were going to ban Sarah Palin drag queens at its upcoming costumed street party, which draws some 500,000 people annually.

The rumor turned out to be false, but tonight comes word that a mannequin has been outfitted to look like Palin -- with glasses, a beehive wig and a red business suit -- and is hanging from a noose outside a WeHo residence.

The display also depicts a devilish John McCain emerging from flames.

"We see people stopping and taking pictures, and the tour buses are stopping and slowing down ... people reach out and take pictures,"display creator Chad Michael Morrisette said.

However, some neighbors said the effigy is in bad taste.

"I know it's Halloween, but when you're using a vice presidential candidate with a noose around her neck, that to me has gone too far," a man identified only as "George" stated. "Whether I'm Republican or Democrat, it's not about that. It's about this and a noose, and it's just wrong." "I know if we had done it with Barack Obama, people would've probably thrown things through our windows," Morrisette said. "The image of a hanged black man is a lot more intense than the image of a hanged white woman -- for our country -- in the history of our country."

Morrisette said his display might be unacceptable any other month, but his subjects are fair game during the Halloween season.

Keeping it classy, those wacky liberals.

Ayers Yuks It Up With Obama Supporters in NYC

Naturally, the unrepentant terrorist spent part of his time whining about the evil Fox News at this closed-door gathering of Barack Obama supporters in Manhattan.

The man the GOP loves to hate tiptoed out of hiding Sunday - if only to blast Fox News and the rest of the media for his predicament.

William Ayers, the '60s radical who is one of John McCain's talking points in his criticism of Barack Obama, told a Manhattan panel discussion audience he was tired of being used as cannon fodder in America's political wars.

Aww, the poor guy. Well, Professor, maybe this is the price you pay for trying to murder people and never saying you're sorry.

"[Fox host] Bill O'Reilly comes on his show and first thing he says is, 'Why won't this Ayers story die?'" Ayers told well-wishers. "And then he spends 10 minutes talking about it."

Ayers, a University of Illinois education professor in Chicago, has mostly kept a low profile since McCain started using him as a poster boy for Obama's supposed left-wing leanings.

Supposed left-wing leanings? Supposed???

Good grief, we're losing the language.

The former member of the Weather Underground beamed at the attention paid by the audience of about 60 people, many of whom were decked out in Obama gear.

The crowd gave Ayers a warm welcome, guffawed at jokes about "redistributing the wealth" and nodded at his complaints about the "Republican revolution."

After the talk was over, event organizers attempted to sneak Ayers out a back door to avoid the media.

If they're so happy to have this lowlife, why do they have to sneak him out the back door?

This Should Go Over Well in San Francisco

Reports have it the San Francisco 49ers may be interested in having Condi Rice join the franchise, perhaps as president.

This, no doubt, will play well in the renowned bastion of tolerance and love.

The NFL Network also had an item on Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice potentially joining the 49ers as team president. Reporter Adam Schefter said he had spoken to a 49ers official who said that was a possibility. Rice went to Stanford, she is friendly with former 49ers receiver and current league director of football operations Gene Washington and she's expressed interest in joining the league in some capacity. But how would she be welcomed in San Francisco? Her politics don't exactly scream "Bay Area." The prospect of Rice joining the 49ers got a chilly reception from show co-hosts Marshall Faulk and Warren Sapp, and I imagine it would get a similar response from most 49ers fans.

Isiah Thomas ODs, Then Throws Daughter Under the Bus

How contemptible can you get? Distraught over being perceived as a pathetic loser, this guy takes 10 Lunesta pills, is found unconscious and has his stomach pumped.

Then he turns around and claims it was his daughter taken from the home.

It would be bad enough, and sad enough, if the story were limited to Thomas himself, who was taken to White Plains Hospital Center on Friday after swallowing up to 10 Lunesta pills. Police, after all, confirmed that it was a "47-year-old man" who was treated for what police are calling an "accidental overdose."

Whatever prompted Thomas to do that, it apparently was not an effort to kill himself. No matter how you fall on the issue of Thomas the basketball executive, that is good news.

What is troubling, to the point of terrifying, was what Thomas told The Post's Marc Berman when reached later that afternoon.

"My daughter is very down right now," Thomas told Berman, referring to 18-year-old Lauren Thomas, who reportedly suffers from hypoglycemia, a lower-than-normal level of sugar in the blood. "None of us are OK."

That reaction does reveal a quintessential side to Thomas, the side that always had a casual - at best - relationship with reality.

Harrison Police Chief David Hall certainly seems to agree, given his pointed observation to the Associated Press: "It wasn't his daughter. And why they're throwing her under the bus is beyond my ability to understand.

"These people should learn something from Richard Nixon: It's not the crime, it's the cover-up."

'Lapse in Judgment'

Barack Obama's entire careeer has been one big lapse in judgment.

The GOP needs to air this one nonstop the next nine days. And a few Jeremiah Wright spots can't hurt.

Stone's Bush Bash Flick Tanks

What a shocker. Another anti-Bush flick bombs at the box office. Nothing like a "biographical" film about a president while he's still in office.

There's been tremdous [sic] interest by the public in the box office fate of Oliver Stone's W. for its second weekend in release. Well, it ran out of steam. QED International/Lionsgate's Bush biopic sank 58% to No. 8 with $1.5 million Friday from 2,050 dates for what will probably be a $5.2M weekend. The $30M negative cost film should end up with $23M domestic box office gross by the end of its North American run. That means, with a $25M P&A investment and Lionsgate's distribution fees, the film won't recoup.

I wonder how Stone's ChiCom investors feel?

Petty Obama Camp Cuts Off Access For TV Station After They Make Biden Look Like An Idiot

WFTV-Channel 9's Barbara West conducted a satellite interview with Sen. Joe Biden on Thursday. A friend says it's some of the best entertainment he's seen recently. What do you think?

West wondered about Sen. Barack Obama's comment, to Joe the Plumber, about spreading the wealth. She quoted Karl Marx and asked how Obama isn't being a Marxist with the "spreading the wealth" comment.

"Are you joking?" said Biden, who is Obama's running mate. "No," West said.

West later asked Biden about his comments that Obama could be tested early on as president. She wondered if the Delaware senator was saying America's days as the world's leading power were over.

"I don't know who's writing your questions," Biden shot back.

Biden so disliked West's line of questioning that the Obama campaign canceled a WFTV interview with Jill Biden, the candidate's wife.

"This cancellation is non-negotiable, and further opportunities for your station to interview with this campaign are unlikely, at best for the duration of the remaining days until the election," wrote Laura K. McGinnis, Central Florida communications director for the Obama campaign.

West has no regrets, but wonders:

I can't believe that in all of his years in politics, and all of his campaigning and such, that he hasn't run into some tough questions before.

He's a Democrat, Barbara, you should know they're only to get softballs. Oh, and another thing, be prepared to have every bit of your privacy violated.

NFL Week 8

As we hit the midseason mark in the NFL, we have perhaps the best matchup of the season in Pittsburgh as the Giants and Steelers meet. With both teams at 5-1, it's being touted as a potential Super Bowl preview, but that's so far off now it's impossible to say where things may stand come January. As it is, the Giants are finished with the cream puff portion of their schedule and need to start playing better. Another big matchup is Monday night as the stumbling Colts face the last unbeaten team in the league, the Tennessee Titans. A special added bonus this week: No Sunday night game, so you won't have to be on alert for that moron Keith Olbermann.

We managed an 8-6 slate in Week 7 and stand at 52-47-3 for 2008.

Chargers -3 Saints: Saints are technically the home team, but this game is being played in London. The Chargers may well win their division by default, but they might want to start winning some games. Saints are all banged up and reports are flying a couple of players may have failed drug tests. Not good. Chargers 31-21

Bills -1.5 DOLPHINS: Bills are going to be fooled by Miami's offensive gimmicks and Trent Edwards is rapidly rising to stardom. Bills may be the best team nobody has seen this year. Bills 24-17

Buccaneers +2.5 COWBOYS: I'm supposed to believe a team that was humiliated by the lowly Rams is to be favored over a Tampa team with a stout defense? The implosion continues in Dallas. Buccaneers 27-20

Falcons +9 EAGLES: Atlanta is a legit 4-2, coming off a bye and getting nine points? Eagles will throw everything at Matt Ryan, but guess what? Falcons have a great running game. Eagles 24-23

PATRIOTS -7.5 Rams: Rams may be flying high after beating the Redskins and Cowboys, but New England may well have gotten their offense in gear last week, although they have huge problems with the running game. Patriots 27-13

Cardinals +4 PANTHERS: Carolina is another solid team playing in relative obscurity. While the Cards will likely cruise to an NFC West title, they're not quite ready to beat elite teams on the road. Panthers 30-27

LIONS +7.5 Redskins: Sure, it seems insane taking a winless Detroit team, but they've covered two straight while Skins have been in an offensive fog. Probably not enough to win, but Lions may keep it interesting. Redskins 20-17

Giants +3 STEELERS: Problem child Plaxico Burress returns for first time to Pittsburgh and is due for a big game. Without Willie Parker, Pittsburgh will be forced to throw a lot and Giants pass rush will get to Ben Roethlisberger. Giants 24-20

JAGUARS -7 Browns: Rested Jags finally have some offensive lineman back and will run all over Browns. This may be the week Derek Anderson gets the hook in favor of Brady Quinn. Just a hunch. Jaguars 31-21

TEXANS -9 Bengals: Carson Palmer may be finished for the season. Seriously, Bengals could go winless. Texans 34-10

49ERS -5 Seahawks: Niners stink, but they already won in Seattle this year and the Seahags are swirling the drain. What the hell happened to them? 49ers 30-13

Colts +4 TITANS: Titans could bury erratic Colts with a win here, but I suspect Peyton Manning and the Colts aren't quite finished yet. Titans finally stumble in prime time spotlight. Colts 24-21

NYC Politics: Enough to Make You Puke

Some folks are just sick about violating the will of the people. But they go along if they know what's good for them.

Darlene Mealy - one of only two City Council members to switch sides in the tense term-limits vote - was under such intense pressure and threats that she vomited twice at City Hall before announcing her decision, sources said yesterday.

Mealy's "yes" vote drew gasps from the audience in the packed council chambers Thursday, since it was the first public signal that the opposition was headed to a slim defeat, 29-22.

Some council members insist Mealy, who was injured in a car crash just hours after the vote, was threatened.

"She was very upset. She kept saying she has to deliver for her district, and she was tired of being on the losing side," said Councilwoman Letitia James (D-Brooklyn), one of the bill's leading adversaries.

Opponents said Mealy was told she would face trouble for trying to sponsor a $25,000 grant for a Brooklyn block association run by her sister in Fiscal Year 2007.

Mealy attempted to allocate her council discretionary funds for her sister's group, the Fulton-Atlantic-Ralph-Rochester Community Association (FARR), but the request was mysteriously pulled.

Jamie McShane, a spokesman for council Speaker Christine Quinn, denied Mealy was threatened in any way.

Of course Democrats would never threaten anyone.

South Korea Military Bans Chomsky Books

Apparently they feel reading the drivel of Noam Chomsky will affect their mental power.

No kidding.

South Korea's Defence Ministry, which maintains a force of about 670,000 troops to fend off an invasion from the communist North, also feels threatened by the likes of American linguist Noam Chomsky.

The ministry said Friday it may punish some officers for harming "the military's mental power" by trying to bring books it considers too leftist onto its bases.

The ministry earlier this year banned 23 books from the country's military facilities include two volumes by Chomsky and the best seller "Bad Samaritans" by a Korean professor at Cambridge University, Chang Ha-joon.

A group of officers said the move was censorship and appealed to the country's highest court to overturn the ban. They argue that since soldiers are free to read the books off base, they should be allowed to bring them into their barracks.

'Rejecting the Equality of the Socialist Ant Heap'

I wish I could say I was as optimistic as Salim Mansur about the outcome of the election November 4.

Let's hope he's right.

Polls have piled up like falling autumn leaves informing American voters the election is practically over and only the matter of procedure remains for Sen. Barack Hussein Obama to be sworn in as the 44th president of the United States.

The mainstream media and the big establishment it represents have worked hard to generate the impression of inevitability on behalf of Obama for a year now.

But like the shoe that pinches, the awkward reality for media and the big establishment remains the uncertainty of the actual vote count. Any attentive student of human affairs will remain skeptical of those predicting the future with certainty.

The only thing certain about the 2008 election, as with previous ones, is its close finish and the vote from Middle America again will be decisive.

Middle America is the last redoubt of freedom, protective of the first two amendments to the U.S. constitution, and egalitarian while rejecting the equality of the socialist ant heap.

Here Americans instinctively understand the words Thucydides put in the mouth of Pericles, the great Athenian hero, "Happiness depends on being free, and freedom depends on being courageous."

Middle America in this 2008 election has the face of Joe the Plumber alongside Sarah Palin. Joe the Plumber has become the everyman of American politics and with his simple question to Obama he unmasked the Democratic nominee's hidden Marxian economic policy -- from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs -- to "spread the wealth around."

Middle America is the flyover country for the coastal left liberals. Here resides the vast silent majority that has witnessed for the past 40 years radical Americans such as the unrepentant terrorist and self-confessed anarcho-communist Bill Ayers trash their country. The New York Times on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001 quoted Ayers, an associate of Obama, saying "I don't regret setting bombs. I feel we didn't do enough." Middle America on its part has voted for the Republican ticket in seven of the past 10 presidential elections.

Joe the Plumber representing Middle America will not vote for Obama and his far left liberal views. He understands without prompting Obama's foreign policy is what the late Daniel Patrick Moynihan -- the highly respected Democratic senator from New York and a great patriot -- noted in referring to president Jimmy Carter's foreign policy, "Unable to distinguish between our friends and our enemies, he has essentially adopted our enemies' view of the world."Read the rest. Another Palin Victim: Hockey Goalies

Maybe this is why the left calls her so dangerous.

Blues goalie Manny Legace left after one period Friday night with a hip injury that occurred when he slipped on the carpet placed on the ice for Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

The Alaska governor dropped the ceremonial first puck before the Blues hosted the Los Angeles Kings. A narrow carpet walkway was placed from the gate at the Blues bench to center ice for Palin, her husband and two of her daughters.

Just before the ceremony, Legace was the first player onto the ice for St. Louis. A team official pointed to the carpet. But Legace said the official moved his own foot from the carpet just as Legace stepped down, causing the carpet to slide.

Legace fell, then gingerly made his way to the crease.

After Legace’s mishap, the official rolled up enough of the carpet so other players wouldn’t have to step on it.

Legace described the injury as a strained left hip flexor. He doesn’t believe it is serious but said it is painful. He said he won’t play Saturday when the Blues host Florida, but wasn’t sure if he’d miss any additional games.

On Friday, she drew overflow crowds of 2,000 people in Columbus and here while standing in for her husband as he visited his ailing grandmother in Hawaii. Speaking without notes, she traded her favored fireside voice for a more fiery one, calling out to people to vote early, if not often.

"Races are lost on thousands of votes, and there are hundreds of thousands of people who are registered who will not vote," Obama said. "Don't wait until Election Day when it's snowing. Don't wait until Election Day when you might be sick. Don't wait until Election Day when your tire might be flat. You might not have gas then. Vote now."

Is there snow forecast for Election Day? Is there a gas shortage I'm unaware of?

"We're living close to the issues," she said in a soft voice, relating her own upbringing as the daughter of working-class parents who did not attend college. She mentioned her mother, retired and living on a pension; Barack Obama's sister, a teacher; and his ailing grandmother, who has long been unable to travel.

As she hung up, she said, "That's my pitch. Thank you for letting me go on and on."

Volunteers asked for her autograph before she climbed into her motorcade for the short ride to Buchtel High School, a diverse crowd and a welcome only slightly less raucous than her send-off. She started with a cheer and finished with a shout, creating a crescendo familiar to watchers of another Obama known for an ability to motivate a crowd.

"Can we do this?" Obama called repeatedly to growing roars of yes. "All right, let's change the world!"
