Pocket Nukes

Forget suitcase nukes. A research team at the University of Missouri has developed a nuclear battery about the size of a dime. Having your iPod explode in your pocket just took on a whole new meaning.
The team's solution incorporates a liquid semiconductor, in which the particles can pass without causing damage. They are now working to further miniaturise the batteries.

And although the whole idea hinges on the use of radioactive materials, the devices are safe under normal operating conditions.
On the other hand, there goes one more excuse for avoiding unwanted phone calls and it will definitely screw up Hollywood writers who always seem to include at least one scene of the hero in trouble and then their cell phone fails. Guess they will resort to the old stand by of No Signal.

No mention of Iran's input in this peaceful pursuit of nuclear technology. I'm sure it is just an oversight.
