To show her support for American workers, President Obama's labor secretary, Hilda Solis, has junked the standard black limo and purchased a new Chevrolet Equinox to ride around Washington in. The problem: the crossover SUV is built and assembled in Canada from parts also made in Canada. For an alleged "media savvy" administration, they just continue to look buffoonish, not to mention supremely arrogant, on a daily basis.
Solis proudly arrived at a media breakfast hosted by the Christian Science Monitor today in the shiny silver vehicle, which she has dubbed the "bullet." She was asked about why she traded the standard-issue limo for the SUV. "What better example could I set if I encouraged my staff to go and purchase and seek how we could acquire a vehicle that would for me would send a signal that we're for supporting our American workers, American-made products, fuel efficient as well," she told the Monitor's Dave Cook, who provided this video of her answer.
Solis added that she was inspired to buy the Chevy because of the pride she saw in American auto workers during trips to U.S. car and truck plants. She said that she was wowed by "the pride that they take making our automobiles here in America."
The car is made at two Canadian plants and has been so popular that General Motors has been hiring more workers in Canada to keep up with demand.
A company official noted that the profits do come back to the United States.

It's the Optics, Stupid: Obama Labor Secretary Buys Canadian-Built Car
Seems like Team Obama's really got a thing for our friends to the north. First the giant hearse he rode around on a couple weeks ago was built in Canada, now this hack Hilda Solis is tooling around in a Chevy assembled in Canada.

The stupidity from this administration is breathtaking.
Oh, and the "standard issue" vehicle is a Limo? How can I get one of these wonderful gubment jobs?
What's funny is that the former Suzuki/GM plant where this thing is made(about 10minsfrom where I live), was one of the things that people wanted GM to dump. Then again, the toyota plant where I do live has been doing so poorly that they've been on rotating layoffs with 2/4/2 week cycles, and they just got off an extended summer break.
Then again, they got a nice series of tax incentives to remain here. Unlike in the US where states, and cities seemed to think the best way to keep businesses was to tax it out. Well then again we have tax-a-holic mcginty here, who's managed to drive Ontario from a have to have not province in 8 years.
Well I have no blame on this except americans, and your desire to ship everything off to anywhere else in the world. Canada has been supplying you guys parts for your jets, planes, and helicopters for years. We built the first series of APC's that the US military used at GM Diesel in London, and even the warehousing side of things *makes* money.
