'I’ve Never Met President Obama'

How bad are things going for Obama? Now Democrats running for Congress pretend they don't even know him.
It’s getting ugly!

Republicans are accusing Democratic congressional hopeful David Weprin of sending spies to “volunteer” for rival Bob Turner’s campaign as a new GOP poll found Turner has pulled even in the race for Anthony Weiner’s House seat.

Turner campaign spokesman William O’Reilly charged that Assemblyman Weprin “is sending young people into Turner campaign headquarters pretending to be volunteers or college reporters. We have caught four of them already.”

“Only a career politician scrambling to save his hide would sink to such a low.”

Weprin spokeswoman Liz Kerr said, “I don’t know anything about it.”

She declined further comment on the explosive accusation.

The McLaughlin & Associates poll of 300 likely voters in the predominantly Democratic 9th Congressional District in Queens and Brooklyn showed the candidates tied at 42 percent after a July survey had Weprin ahead 43-35.

The pollsters said independent voters are breaking toward Turner as the Sept. 13 special election approaches.
Facing what could be a shocking defeat, Weprin's running scared.
Meanwhile Weprin, stumping at senior centers in Queens yesterday, downplayed his decision to distance himself from President Obama in campaign literature and on the trail.

“I’ve never met President Obama. [Turner] is running against me,” Weprin said during an event at the Young Israel of Forest Hills Senior League.
Turner should continue to lump Weprin in with Obama.
The president's approval was already upside down in the district at the beginning of August, and according to additional numbers from the McLaughlin survey obtained by Hotline On Call, it's gotten even worse. Now, 55 percent of those polled disapprove of Obama, with 37 percent of those strongly disapproving. Only 40 percent approve of his job performance in a solidly-Democratic district in Queens and Brooklyn that gave Al Gore 67 percent of the vote in 2000. (The numbers are broadly consistent with a non-partisan Siena poll conducted last month.)
Update: Despite claims he's never met Obama, Weprin is happily having Obama's Organizing for America campaign for him. Shameless.

This is a holy-shit moment!  I'm genuinely surprised that Turner even has a chance, much less is within striking distance.  I live in a hugely Jewish suburb of Baltimore, Maryland...and my neighbors have, in the past year, figured out just how badly they fucked up when they voted for Mr. Obama...so it's purcolating up north?  WOW!

These are the times that try Dem's souls.

Meh. While he wasn't so obvious about it, back when Romney was running for office in Massachusetts he made it quite clear he had nothing to do with Ronald Reagan, nor did he wish to.

Back then he was a {cough} moderate.
