No, not Obama.
He claims he's never met him. No, someone with much more heft:
Bowzer.
“Say hello to David Weprin! Vote for David Weprin,” the group chanted as people hurried by.
Weprin stuck out his hand, reminding people he is the Democratic candidate in today’s special election.
City Controller John and City Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley were also on hand to get the message out.
“Hold the train!” Weprin shouted as people hurried down the platform. Jon "Bowzer" Bauman from Sha Na Na lent his booming voice to the chorus.
But their enthusiasm was a bit much for some.
“I feel like I’m being assaulted,” said one female straphanger, after she settled into her seat on the train, Weprin flyer in hand. “I don’t like it.”
Meanwhile, Team Obama is already spinning furiously in the face of a humiliating loss of a seat Democrats have held since 1923 (H/T
John Hayward).
The White House is girding for a political loss in the heart of New York on Tuesday. They’re also spinning up an explanation that won’t entirely result in the blame landing on the low popularity of the president. As in Massachusetts, where Democratic Senate candidate Martha Coakley was faulted by the White House and many others for tone-deaf campaigning, Democratic candidate Dave Weprin may see the undercarriage of that new White House campaign bus.
Democratic officials and President Obama’s advisers expect Weprin to lose the election to upstart Republican Bob Turner in the contest to fill the 9th District seat vacated by Democrat Anthony Weiner.
Obama won the district, which spans southern Brooklyn and Queens, by 11 percentage points in 2008. His approval rating there is now 33 percent.
It can't be Obama's fault. Nope, nothing ever is.

I voted. Turnout heavy for special election, I'm told. Turner people handing out literature near "no electioneering" line. Not a sign of anything from Weprin campaign. A stunner, since a majority of my area (Woodhaven) is minority, not white. About 45% is Latino. This should be the heart of the district for any wannabe Democrat running for Congress in NY9. Weprin is done, look for the concession speech to come before the Mets lose, I mean finish playing.
Sadly, there's a Rabbi Wallerstein making robo calls for Turner, whom he has admitted he knows nothing about -- because "gays cause earthquakes" and "gay marriage causes hurricance." Regardless of your position on NY's marriage law, which Weprin supported, that is not the reason he should win, for the economy is far more important as a whole than us few. But this site rails against the incivilty in politics, and can anything be more uncivil than what Wallerstein is saying? I mean, really now, it's not even rational.
Vote for Turner because he's going to do some good (and hopefully not pick us few sissies in the land); not because you are deluded into thinking NY's new law is causing earthquakes and hurricanes. Egad, it's mind numbing.
