Gibbs: It's Up to GOP to Help Us Close Club Gitmo or Something

Apparently one the of the major promises made by Barack Obama is being held up by those old meanie Republicans.

These people really have no shame.

Closing the Guantanamo Bay prison was one of then-Sen. Obama's major campaign promises during the 2008 presidential race and it has been a key issue for members of his liberal base, which has at times been put off by the White House's plans of action on their priorities.

The Obama administration had spent much of 2009 attempting to find a way to close the military prison that houses 174 detainees, but were unable to find enough support in Congress to open a prison on the U.S. mainland or settle on a location to hold civilian trials for some prisoners.

Gibbs said that President Obama is looking for Republican cooperation to close the prison.

"I think part of this depends on the Republicans' willingness to work with the administration on this," he said.

Obama could issue an order to close up shop tomorrow yet he doesn't have the guts to do it. That's self-evident after two years of vacillation and dithering.

Robert 'Tariq Aziz' Gibbs: Obama's Disastrous Appearance With Jon Stewart Went Swimmingly

What more do you expect from the spokesman for the captain of The Titanic? This guy ought to be a hoot come next Wednesday.

Despite Jon Stewart's apparent disappointment with President Obama's "timid" first two years in office, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Thursday that he thinks Obama's appearance on "The Daily Show" was a "success."

But Stewart gave voice to disgruntled Democrats who question whether Obama has fought hard enough for their issues on matters like "Don't ask, don't tell" and the public health insurance option.

That voice led many to wonder on Thursday, one day after the show aired, if the White House might have made a mistake in sending Obama onto the show with just days to go until the election.

Gibbs said that he does not "have any regret" about Obama doing the show.

"Our viewpoint is that when the president gets to talk about what he's done and sit through what people may or may not have heard, it's a positive benefit," Gibbs said. "So I would think of it as a success."

I can't wait until Stewart and his Comedy Central co-clown Colbert show up for their "rally for whatever" in DC this weekend. Actually, I can wait. I have a life, unlike the great unwashed who'll be wasting their time listening to two dispirited douchebags desperately trying to rally depressed Obamatons. Deep down they know it's over and probably wish they hadn't committed themselves to what's sure to be a colossal embarrassment. Well, unless you'll be watching CNN or MSNBC, where they'll surely be trying to prop up the hapless Obama.

'A Threat to Our Democracy'

Looks like the Democrats have some explaining to do.

Democratic leaders in the House and Senate criticizing GOP groups for allegedly funneling foreign money into campaign ads have seen their party raise more than $1 million from political action committees affiliated with foreign companies.

House and Senate Democrats have received approximately $1.02 million this cycle from such PACs, according to an analysis compiled for The Hill by the Center for Responsive Politics. House and Senate GOP leaders have taken almost $510,000 from PACs on the same list.

The PACS are funded entirely by contributions from U.S. employees of subsidiaries of foreign companies. All of the contributions are made public under Federal Elections Commission rules, and the PACs affiliated with the subsidiaries of foreign corporations are governed by the same rules that American firms' PACs or other PACs would face.

Republicans with groups under fire from the White House say the hefty campaign contributions illustrate Democratic hypocrisy.

“Barack Obama criticized the Supreme Court and his adversaries over the bogus charge of foreign money tainting elections – while leaders in his own party had taken more than a million dollars from the foreign cookie jar,” said Jonathan Collegio, a spokesman for American Crossroads, the political group at the center of the controversy.

“The hypocrisy here is just stunning,” he said.

Obviously this foreign money is some kind of threat to out democracy, right?

Of course not. But made up smears against the Chamber of Commerce have led to that absurd statement.

On "Meet the Press" Sunday, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs directly called out the executive vice president for government affairs at the Chamber, challenging him to prove the group's claim that foreign money isn't used in the funding of its political ad campaigns.

"Bruce Josten could simply open up the books," Gibbs said. "It's a pretty easy solution to simply show the American people where the money is coming from."

Host David Gregory asked Gibbs whether Democrats' assertions about the Chamber funding ads with foreign dollars are "more smoke than fact."

"Absolutely not," Gibbs fired back.

Axelrod responded to a question about whether voters would prefer that Democrats focus on issues such as the economy by maintaining it was an issue of the economy, as Republican wins could mean danger for the administration victories of healthcare and Wall Street reform.

"Ask these folks why they feel it's necessary to keep these funds secret," he said. "We tried to make them public, even the Democratic funds -- Democratic-leaning funds. We don't think anybody should keep these things secret."

He called the financing controversy "a threat to our democracy."

He has zero evidence to support his ridiculous claim, yet here it's documented his own people are raking in foreign contributions.

Lying Dick Busted Again

You get the feeling it'll be another lie exposed every day with this lowlife scumbag.

US Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal has been caught yet again insinuating he served in Vietnam when he never set foot there.

The latest embarrassment to the once-soaring Connecticut Democratic hopeful comes from the archives of the Milford Mirror, a weekly paper.

While addressing a crowd at a 2007 Memorial Day parade -- which included the family of a Marine killed in Iraq -- Blumenthal said, "In Vietnam, we had to endure taunts and insults, and no one said, welcome home."

The Democrat added, "I say, welcome home."

In fact, Blumenthal had never served in Vietnam.

So naturally the Democrats last night endorsed this pathological liar.

Despite the revelations, state Democrats gave Blumenthal their endorsement last night to run for the seat vacated by Chris Dodd, who is retiring.

The White House also never met a serial fantasist they wouldn't embrace. After all, there's one playing the role of president these days. We'll be sure to remind them of this when eventually Blumenthal becomes a liability and is thrown under the bus.

The White House is standing by Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, who admitted this week to having misstated his military service on some occasions, but insisted he never intentionally meant to claim he had served in Vietnam.

The controversy had threatened to derail Blumenthal’s campaign for U.S. Senate to replace retiring Democratic Sen. Chris Dodd.

When asked about Blumenthal today, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Blumenthal had “our continued support.’’

The top White House spokesman set up his Twitter account Saturday, Gibbs confirmed to CNN; Gibbs goes by the Twitter handle @PressSec on the popular service.

He's apparently having problems since all he could churn out has been this so far.

Robert Gibbs has got to be one of the most classless people alive. His job is to face the press and make the case for the President. Inherent in that job is a responsibility to act with professionalism and decorum.

Gibbs, however, seems to want to believe he is still part of some type of Animal House fraternity and continually engages in childish behavior. His latest groaner is an attempt to, I guess, poke fun at Sarah Palin. He appeared at today's presser with the words eggs, milk, bread, hope and change written on his hand.

This is a man who wants to be taken seriously and is the president's champion in getting out a message. Well, whatever message you are trying to send is getting lost in the antics and the only thing the American people are seeing is an entire administration that does not take the role of governing this country responsibly.

They see a president who can't decide what to order for dinner without a teleprompter, who constantly whines about what he inherited, begging for bipartisanship, while proclaiming in meetings that he won and, by golly, he is going to ram though whatever pie in the sky dreams of legislation he may have.

The whole administration makes me sick with the way they attack ordinary citizens, whether they be folks attending a Tea Party protest, a townhall meeting, or simply asking a pointed question.

I will be so glad when these people are gone in 2012; but America, a warning. Whoever takes over next is going to have one hell of a time returning prestige and respect back to the office, so choose wisely and insist on a resume.

At least the press didn't play along with his little attempt at humor.

This Democrat implosion gets better by the minute. Low-rated MSNBC knuckle-dragger Ed Schultz was speaking at a gathering in Minnesota last night and told the audience about an exchange he had with White House spokesthing Robert Gibbs.

SCHULTZ: I told him he was full of sh*t is what I told him. … And then he gave me the Dick Cheney f-bomb. … I told Robert Gibbs, I said “And I’m sorry you’re swearing at me, but I’m just trying to help you out. I’m telling you you’re losing your base. Do you understand you’re losing your base?”

Schultz clearly suffers from Cheney Derangement Syndrome. What's the deal? Any time someone uses the F-bomb it has to come back to Cheney?

Meanwhile, the commenters over at the TP asylum are in deep, deep denial.

Historically Unprecedented: Obama Approval Lowest Ever 10 Months In

Obama and his handlers seem to preface every proclamation by saying it's historic and unprecedented. How do the big babies handle this? Why, by being snide and obnoxious, of course.

President Obama's job approval rating has fallen to 47 percent in the latest Gallup poll, the lowest ever recorded for any president at this point in his term.

Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford and even Richard Nixon all had higher approval ratings 10-and-a-half months into their presidencies. Obama's immediate predecessor, President George W. Bush, had an approval rating of 86 percent, or 39 points higher than Obama at this stage.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said he doesn't "put a lot of stock" in the survey by Gallup, which has conducted presidential approval polls since 1938, longer than any other organization.

"If I was a heart patient and Gallup was my EKG, I'd visit my doctor," Gibbs said in response to questions from Fox. "I'm sure a six-year-old with a Crayon could do something not unlike that. I don't put a lot of stake in, never have, in the EKG that is daily Gallup trend. I don't pay a lot of attention to the meaninglessness of it."

Except when he had high numbers. Then everyone gushed how popular he was. Now?

Silence. Except for the puerile schmuck Gibbs. I guess The Gallup Organization is the next to enter the crossfire. Although when you consider Obama's steep decline tended to coincide with his disastrous War on Fox News, one wonders whether taking on a generally-favorable pollster is a wise idea when you're already enmeshed in a quagmire of your own making.

Baghdad Bob Gibbs: Obama Never Watched Election Results When He Was Running

I noted this in an earlier post but it's worth expanding on it. The media is running today with the story that Barack Obama was watching alternate programming last night, be it basketball or a schlockumentary about himself. But it's curious to note the spin from Baghdad Bob Gibbs.

"He never watched them when he was running," spokesman Robert Gibbs said, offering the White House analysis on last night's races in Virginia, New Jersey, and New York.

Oh, really, Bob? Let's look back to one year ago today.

Now here's the family watching what we assume was a television, which we suspect was showing election results.

Obama Lied, the Truth Died

Of course when they're busted they don't admit to lying. Instead you get some weak-assed claim that he misspoke. I'm starting to think a lot of people will soon be admitting they misvoted.

President Obama misspoke and did not intend to mislead the public when he said AARP had endorsed his health care legislation pending in Congress, the White House said Wednesday.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters that Obama did not mean to misinform Americans when he said Tuesday at a town hall in Portsmouth, N.H., that the senior lobby had backed his legislation.

"AARP has said they are certainly supportive and have been for years on comprehensive health reform," Gibbs said. "I don't think the president meant to imply anything untoward. I think he discussed the notion that AARP is supportive of legislation -- or, I'm sorry, an agreement that would -- that would fund filling the doughnut hole for seniors as part of Medicare Part D, as well as additional savings for comprehensive health care reform."

Obama said at the town hall that "we have the AARP onboard because they know this is a good deal for our seniors." He added, "AARP would not be endorsing a bill if it was undermining Medicare."

AARP's chief operating officer Tom Nelson quickly fired back, saying, "indications that we have endorsed any of the major health care reform bills currently under consideration in Congress are inaccurate."

Meanwhile, speaking of lies, are there any Democrats or their surrogates who tell the truth?

Headline of the Day: 'Biden Bid to Bury Boner'

For a minute there I figured Joe Biden was let loose among some comely interns. Alas, it's just another gaffe-tastic moment for Greasy Joe.

Gaffe-prone Vice President Joe Biden backtracked yesterday from comments he made at a Democratic fund-raiser in Manhattan that were widely viewed as an endorsement of Gov. Paterson's re-election.

"It was a statement of friendship and admiration for the governor, and was not intended as a political statement," Biden spokes woman Elizabeth Alexander said.

Speaking of Paterson Monday night, the loose-lipped Biden said, "Your once and future governor of the state of New York has been extremely generous to Barack and me and has been a major part of us trying to put this economy back together."

The vice president's comments were significant because the unpopular Paterson is facing a possible Democratic primary challenge from state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo. Polls show Cuomo would trounce Paterson if the election were held today.

Asked about Biden's endorsement -- or at least the strong prediction that Paterson will enjoy re-election -- White House spokesman Robert Gibbs punted.

"I have not seen the remarks," he said. "But let me go see if I can find that and see what the context is."

A short time later, Alexander issued her written statement explaining what Biden meant.

Biden is legendary for his off-the-wall gaffes -- most recently contributing to the swine flu panic.

Why is it with these people someone always has to come out and explain what they said. Are we so stupid we cannot understand what they said when they said it?

Asked if he would outline the costs, Gibbs said Monday the Obamas would have preferred using a commercial airline shuttle to New York and back but the Secret Service would not allow such unprotected travel.

The idea these two would take a shuttle is laughable.

Flyover Fallout: Obama Orders Review Of His Own Incompetence

After weakly pretending he had no knowledge of Monday's terrifying flyover of lower Manhattan, the grossly incompetent Barack Obama will now compound the error by wasting more taxpayer money on a "review" of this man-caused disaster.

President Barack Obama has ordered an internal review to determine how the decision was made to send of one of his official airplanes on a low-flying photo op past the New York City skyline.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Tuesday that deputy chief of staff Jim Messina will lead the review. Gibbs said the point is to determine "why that decision was made and to ensure that it never happens again."

So after wasting an untold sum of money on this vanity photo-op we're now going to see some whitewash review likely claiming Obama had no knowledge of anything.

Memo to Louis Caldera: Update your resume.

First order of business from this fiasco: When will we see an accounting of who was on board during this flyover? Were there any compaign contributors getting a joyride?

The incompetents at the Obama White House today apologized for the incredibly idiotic flyover stunt that scared the daylights out of lower Manhattan.

Just imagine the wailing had the Bush White House, or any other for that matter, had ever done something like this there'd be mass firings, Congressional hearings and years of mockery.

Obama? Eh, he'll get a pass.

President Obama's White House was forced to issue an apology Monday after a photo opportunity gone wrong — an Air Force 747 plane did a low flyover lower Manhattan, prompting terrified citizens to flee from their offices and high-profile accusations of government insensitivity.

White House Military Office director Louis Caldera issued a brief statement.

"Last week, I approved a mission over New York. I take responsibility for that decision," he said. "While federal authorities took the proper steps to notify state and local authorities in New York and New Jersey, its clear that the mission created confusion and disruption. I apologize and take responsibility for any distress that flight caused."

I though the buck stopped with Dear Leader? Who the hell is Louis Caldera and why the hell is he taking responsibility?

Will anyone in the slobbering media dare ask Obama's TelePrompter about this Wednesday?

The panic started Monday morning when a backup 747 used as Air Force One flew by lower Manhattan with a fighter jet closely following, rattling windows and causing some limited evacuations.

The late afternoon statement came as New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg — an Obama ally so far — said he was outraged.

A few hours earlier, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs had dodged questions about the incident, saying he hadn't followed it closely.

Obama Appoints Angry Partisan Hack As Press Secretary

No, not Keith Olberman, who I'm sure is crushed. Two days in to the wonderful era of hopenchange and we have hatchet man Rahm Emanuel as chief of staff and now this hack Robert Gibbs as press secretary. I'm sure he'll do fine though, since the media dies this year and the White House press corpse will do nothing but lob softballs at this guy.
