A Nigerian religious leader has been ordered to divorce 82 wives – but Islamic authorities have allowed him to keep four.
Mohammadu Bello Abubakar, 84, has agreed to comply with the decree after a Sharia court agreed to lift a death sentence against him.
The father of an astonishing 170 children had challenged Islamic scholars, saying there was no punishment stated in the Koran for having more than four wives.
Mr Abubakar, who lives in Niger state, now faces eviction after failing to comply with Saturday’s divorce ruling.
