Another New York Politician With Too Much Time On His Hands

What is it with the New York politicians that they want to go off chasing unicorns in what amounts to little more then a masked attempt to strike at conservatives?

Now Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY), having solved all of the big issues of the day like the national debt, out-of-control spending, security of the borders, eradication of Islamic terrorism and the burgeoning unemployment has now set his sights on one of the sponsors of the Glenn Beck radio show, Goldline. This is nothing more then an attempt to scare away sponsorship from one of the most successful personalities on radio and television.

Talk show host Glenn Beck and Goldline International, a California-based gold retailer, have colluded to use fear mongering tactics to bilk investors, according to a stinging report issued Tuesday by Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.).

The report alleges that Goldline grossly overcharges for the gold coins that constitute the bulk of its business, uses misleading sales techniques and takes advantage of fears about President Barack Obama’s stewardship of the economy – which are stoked by its paid stable of paid conservative endorsers including Beck, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham and Fred Thompson – “to cheat consumers.”

This is nothing but something for the progressives to salivate over as it is another attempt to silence conservative voices. They can't compete in the market so the only option is for them to try and eliminate the competition altogether. Really pretty pathetic, just like the boycott that I guess is still going on from the former Obama appointee Van Jones's front group against advertisers on the Glenn Beck TV show.

A member of the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection, Weiner said he plans to introduce legislation to require Goldline and other precious metal retailers to fully disclose all their fees, how much the price of gold would need to rise in order for their customers’ investments to yield a profit, and the purchase price, melt value and resale value of the metal that constitutes their products. And he called on the Securities and Exchange Commission, as well as the Federal Trade Commission to investigate “the shady business practices conducted by Goldline International.”

Anthony, I can answer one part of that sermon. How much the price of gold would need to rise in order for their customers investments to yield a profit? 1¢. If you knew anything about how investments actually works you might understand that and not be so gullible to all the crap Fannie and Freddie feed you.

Glenn Beck Hatred Ready to Skyrocket

Combine hatred, anger and envy, three traits of the modern day left, and you've got a combustible brew ready to blow. Now when they find out how much dough he's raking in, behold the fury. Of course from his taxes alone he could pay for hundreds of people to receive their "free" ObamaCare, a point sure to escape the haters.

It pays to be Glenn Beck ... and pays, and pays, and pays.

The controversial Fox News loud-mouth - hero to conservatives, dartboard fodder to liberals - made $32 million in the 12 months ending March 1, reports Forbes magazine.

His company, Mercury Radio Arts, churns out books, runs a profitable Web site, and manages his sold-out appearances.

Beck insists he's not political, even after leading the charge against health care reform, feeding the frenzy of the Tea Party members, and telling his loyalists President Obama has "a deep-seated hatred for white people."

"I could give a flying crap about the political process," Beck tells the new issue of Forbes magazine (Forbes.com).

"We're an entertainment company."

And his brand of entertainment has paid off.

"I aspire to Walt Disney's never-ending quest to try to improve the quality of what he's doing, his never-ending vision of, 'Yes, it can be done,'" Beck said.

Not to mention his building one of the most lucrative and durable entertainment empires of all time.

Here's where the money comes from, Forbes reports: Publishing (books and Fusion magazine), $13 million a year; Radio, $10 million; Digital/Online, $4 million; Paid Appearances, $3 million; Fox News, $4 million.

Doesn't look like all those childish boycotts are quite working, huh?

Media Matters Manufactures Another Glenn Beck 'Outrage'

Pity the poor soul at the far-left hack operation Media Matters whose job it is to sit around watching or listening to Glenn Beck, hanging on his every word waiting to pounce on some perceived offense. Or worse, you could be some schmo at the New York Daily News posing as a reporter sitting around waiting for the latest Media Matters post so you have some way to justify your salary.

Well, it must be another slow news day.

Glenn Beck may have stepped in it again.

Sort of.

The radio host and Fox News Channel commentator has folks in a minor uproar for even questioning the term African-American on his syndicated radio show Thursday.

“African-American is a bogus, PC, made-up term,” Beck said, in a discussion about the new Census forms.

“That is not a race. Your ancestry is from Africa, and now you live in America. Okay, so you were brought over, either your family was brought over in the slave trade, or you were born here and your family immigrated here, or whatever. But that is not a race.”

Beck’s on-air guests agreed, noting the frequent misuse of African-American as a label, using, for instance, the term incorrectly applied to someone from Jamaica. Also, it’s not used to describe South African-born Charlize Theron, who is white and now a U.S. citizen.

The conversation stemmed from the new Census documents that give respondents three boxes from which to chose from: Black, African-American or Negro.

The watchdog group Media Matters picked up on the conversation and posted a clip on its Web site as has Thinkprogress.org.

“Negro used to be — is it still — not acceptable, is that still the clinical term, I don’t know,” Beck said. “It has negative connotations in this country. But what I’m asking is: what are the clinical categories?”

Not surprising, the clip, now circulating in the blogosphere, has generated a load of anti-Beck comments.

Of course these people seem to have short-term memory problems. It was just 20 years ago when Jesse Jackson made the push to put the term into popular use and the lapdog media quickly rushed to comply. I figure the twerps at Media Matters were probably still in diapers back then.

A movement led by the Rev. Jesse Jackson to call blacks African-Americans has met with both rousing approval and deep-seated skepticism in a debate that is coming to symbolize the role and history of blacks in this country.

The term, used for years in intellectual circles, is gaining currency among many other blacks, who say its use is a sign that they are accepting their difficult past and resolving a long ambivalence toward Africa.

So when Glenn Beck, or anyone else, says "African-American is a bogus, PC, made-up term," what exactly is incorrect about that?

As for the drones at Media Matters, I hope they've seen this.

My only question is how did Sarah Palin not get worked into this silly story? Oh wait, I do have another question. Why is the ADL bothering with some drivel like this? Are they trying to imply Beck, Hannity and Limbaugh are anti-Semitic or are they just carrying water for Obama and company?

Weep for joy, Glenn Beck: the Anti-Defamation League has cited you as the national media's fear-monger-in-chief.

In a new report examining the wave of anti-government hostility that's spread across the country since Barack Obama won the White House, the ADL cited Beck as the "most important mainstream media figure who has repeatedly helped to stoke the fires of anti-government anger."

Beck, a right-wing talk host with a TV show on Fox and popular syndicated radio program, is in a league of his own, the report from the Jewish anti-hate watchdog group asserts.

According to the report, other conservative media hosts, such as Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, routinely blast Obama and his administration, but they have typically dismissed or refused to offer a platform to conspiracy theorists and anti-government extremists.

You can be sure the media will be running hard with this nonsense tonight.

"In the year since we marked the historic election of the nation's first African-American president we have seen a tremendous amount of anger and hostility," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director. "There is a toxic atmosphere of rage in America being witnessed at many levels, and it raises fundamental questions for our society.

I guess Mr. Foxman missed eigfht years of blind hatred directed at George W. Bush and the Democrat/mainstream media jihad currently in full force against Palin. Foxman might also want to have a look at the rank anti-Semitism so popular on the left when he has the time.

Naturally, the wild-eyed hysterics are lapping it up.

I don't know the source of this video other than it appears to be from a British show. In it Rupert Murdoch supports his on-air talent Glenn Beck in the faux outrage raised by the liberals over Glenn calling Obama on his racist statements, which led to the boycott of sponsors spearheaded by by the soon to be thrown under the bus czar Van Jones.

Despite some lame boycott organized by pals of Communist Truther Van Jones, Glenn Beck's ratings continue to soar, even in the typically dead 5 pm hour. But leave it to some delusional Huffington Post hater to live in an alternate universe and claim Rupert Murdoch will soon fire Beck. Sure, and the New York Mets are a lock to get to the World Series.

What planet are these people living on?

While Glenn Beck is not the lone voice of dissent within Fox News (O'Reilly, Hannity and Malkin are similarly offensive), he does epitomize what is wrong with the network, and just how out of sync it is with the mainstream. His continued assault on the President which consists of a remarkable slew of accusations and innuendo (Obama is a socialist/communist/Nazi/racist), does not reflect well on the network, regardless of how right wing it is.

Seems to me the rest of the low-rated cable networks are the ones out of the mainstream. After all, Beck crushes them all combined during his timeslot. But hey, why deal with facts

Glenn Beck is unlikely to moderate his position unless his corporate paymasters instruct him to do so. And if they do, he'll lose the base of fringe Right idiots who tune into his show on a nightly basis. Murdoch most likely understands this, and is probably crunching numbers to see how viable Beck is to Fox News in the long run.

The author makes some weak claim Beck will hurt Murdoch financially. In fact, dismissing Beck would hurt even more. I doubt a savvy businessman like Murdoch, who's been criticized for decades, would be dumb enough to jettison a cash cow in favor of someone else sure to draw far less ratings. It just makes no sense.

Then again, we are dealing with someone writing for a far out of the mainstream website.

Panic Grips Great Northwest for Glenn Beck Homecoming

We know some folks in New York are afflicted with Glenn Beck Derangement Syndrome and now it appears some in his hometown have down with a nasty case of it.

Glenn Beck's visit to his hometown in Washington state this weekend seemed simple enough on the surface, with a ceremonial key to the city awaiting him and the mayor naming the day in the Fox News personality's honor.

But this being Glenn Beck, nothing is that easy.

Groups have demonstrated on the streets and in city council meetings over the conservative commentator's visit. Petitions have been collected calling on the cancellation of the visit. A small business owner put up a sign that says: "Glenn Beck & Hatred not welcome here." And the leader of a nearby city has offered the key to his city to Jon Stewart in sort of a mayoral rebuttal.

Welcome home, Glenn.

Mount Vernon Mayor Bud Norris came up with the idea to honor Beck, pronouncing Sept. 26 as "Glenn Beck Day" as a way to honor his success as a nationally known broadcaster. The event at which Beck is scheduled to speak sold out.

The media circus and the strong public reaction over the event has not fazed Norris, who says people have sent him gifts from across the country to give to Beck.

"I knew him here as a kid," said Norris, a Republican. "I was really unaware, really, of what he was doing in the last 25 years or so until I became aware he was on CNN ... I decided to recognize him for his professional achievement, not for his political views."

Nearly on cue, though, the announcement sparked a wave of opposition, riling up the liberal base in and around Mount Vernon, an agricultural city of 26,000 people 60 miles north of Seattle.

In neighboring Whatcom County, where Beck went to high school, the mayor of Bellingham offered the keys to his city to Stewart, the host of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show."

"For me the bottom-line issue is, is somebody adding to the national conversation in a good way, are they adding to civic culture and civic discourse or not? I don't think Glenn Beck does. I think Jon Stewart does," said Bellingham Mayor Dan Pike.

Comedy Central did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment on the proposal.

In a statement, Beck said "the people of Mt. Vernon are great people and I'm humbled by this honor and proud to be from there." Beck added he learned the value of hard work at his family bakery.

In his show, though, Beck poked fun at the surrounding controversy and mocked Seattle residents.

"I'm afraid of even landing in my own home state. It used to be sane in Seattle. In the outlying areas, it used to be sane. Now, not so much," Beck said on his radio show on Sept. 2. "You don't know some of these people in Seattle ... They don't have a life. They're out hugging salmon and setting them free."

Beck's roots in Washington are deep. His father ran a bakery in downtown Mount Vernon. His mother drowned while boating in the Puget Sound when he was a teenager.

No doubt the compassionate left will have a chuckle with that.
