The action by S&P reaffirms the need for a balanced approach to deficit reduction that combines spending cuts with revenue-raising measures like closing taxpayer-funded giveaways to billionaires, oil companies and corporate jet owners. This makes the work of the joint committee all the more important, and shows why leaders should appoint members who will approach the committee’s work with an open mind - instead of hardliners who have already ruled out the balanced approach that the markets and rating agencies like S&P are demanding.

Balanced approach? "Revenue-raising measures" (read: tax increases). He's completely out of his mind. At what point do these maniacs give up on the class warfare and realize the mess they've gotten us into isn't working?

Dingy Harry Abandons Weiner

Even a sleazebag like Harry Reid wants nothing to do with the disgraced Anthony Weiner.

Reid told reporters on Tuesday that he wished there were some way he could defend the New York congressman, but he can't. It was the latest sign of the cool response Weiner is getting from fellow Democrats embarrassed by his online sex scandal.

Asked what he would do if Weiner called him for advice, Reid said he'd tell him to call somebody else.

Meanwhile, John Boehner wisely lays low.

“This is right now a problem for Representatives Nancy Pelosi, Steve Israel and Debbie Wasserman Schultz and the focus needs to remain on Representatives Nancy Pelosi, Steve Israel and Debbie Wasserman Schultz,” a GOP leadership aide said of the House minority leader, the head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. “If [Weiner’s] party leaders don’t act, there could be some kind of institutional requirement. But for the time being, I think the contrast in the way the House Democratic leadership is handling it” in contrast to how GOP leaders dealt with similar cases “is pretty telling.”

Well played, Speaker Boehner. Make Weiner the face of the party for as long as they'll have him.

Dingy Harry: America Doesn't Care About Tea Party

Harry Reid has been obsessing over the Tea Party of late and his new mantra is America doesn't care about them.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) encouraged Republicans to stop listening to the Tea Party, saying the country doesn't care about the grassroots conservative movement.

"The country doesn't care much about the Tea Party,” Reid said Wednesday. “There is a new CNN poll out today that says this very directly.”

Reid was referring to a CNN poll released on Wednesday that said only 47 percent view the Tea Party in a favorable light.

So only 47% care about the Tea Party? So what does this say about his president?

Half of Americans don't believe President Obama deserves a second term, a new Quinnipiac poll found - while showing his lowest approval ratings ever.

The survey, released Wednesday, reveals that just 41% of voters think the President deserves to be reelected in 2012.

Meanwhile, his overall approval rating has dropped four percentage points since early March to 42%.

It's safe to say both of these polls oversampled Democrats, so we're thinking the Tea Party is likely more popular while Obama is even less popular.

But keep it up, Dingy. The more you talk, the more Democrats and your leader Obama sink.

It's quite obvious Reid's only hope to cling to power as Majority Leader is to create a divide between Tea Partiers and elected Republicans, hoping to split votes in some states. I just don't think people are dumb enough to fall for such transparent nonsense. While it may have worked to help get him re-elected, he greatly underestimates the fact Tea Partiers for the most part already were voting Republicans and grew in popularity as a conservative movement.

Clearly Reid has his marching orders. He brings up Tea Partiers at every opportunity while Chuckie Schumer calls everyone an extremist. It isn't working.

Dingy Harry: Hey, Stop Wasting Time With These Symbolic Votes Like I Used To

The Senate Majority Leader apparently isn't happy with GOP efforts to repeal ObamaCare.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) castigated Republicans Thursday for wasting time on “symbolic votes” like healthcare repeal.

Reid said it is time for the Senate to return to business and that it must move on from healthcare repeal, which senators rejected on Wednesday in a 47-51 vote.

“We can't waste anymore time on symbolic votes,” said Reid. “The fight to repeal the patients’ rights in the healthcare reform law is behind us. Points have been made, the votes have been counted and like the majority of the American people, the Senate has decide that the law of the land is better than the broken system it replaced.”

Really, a majority of Americans don't want it repealed? That's news to us.

Besides, it's not as if symbolic votes are beneath Dingy Harry.

Democratic leaders said Tuesday that they intended to hold symbolic votes in the House and Senate on President Bush’s plan to send more troops to Baghdad, forcing Republicans to take a stand on the proposal and seeking to isolate the president politically over his handling of the war.

So when it came to trying to lose a war, Reid is down with symbolic votes. But when it comes to the will of the majority, he just hasn't got time for any of it.

The crowd went wild when Michelle Obama swept into a high-school gymnasium in Las Vegas yesterday morning, with little Harry Reid trailing in her wake and a local Mariachi band, in full dress uniform, entertaining the crowd. But behind the flag waving and anthem-singing, and the sunny optimism of a typical American election rally, there was a palpable sense of unease.

Two years ago, at the height of Obamania, the First Lady was a sort of rock-star; with a following wind, she could fill an outdoor stadium. Today, her stock has fallen. A few hundred people did turn out to hear her speech, but there were swathes of seats left empty at the back, and plenty of standing room around the stage. Ticker tape was conspicuous by its absence.

Mrs Obama’s message, on the eve of a mid-term election that will define the last two years of her husband’s first term as President meanwhile wasn’t so much Yes We Can as Hopefully We Might.

Maybe there'd have been more confetti but she used it up on her vacation budget.

Dingy Harry: 'My Manhood Has Never Been in Question'

Good grief. If he was comfortable in his manhood he wouldn't be whining like a little bitch over being told to man up.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) fired back at GOP challenger Sharron Angle on Saturday for saying during their debate earlier this month that he should "man up."

"This is what her and her kind all around this country are using, this is part of the talking points of the right-wing Republicans," Reid said in an interview on CNN.

"But, you know, that's one thing I've never had to prove, whether it was in the street or the ring or in the Senate," the onetime boxer said. "My manhood has never been in question."

When was this tool last in a boxing ring? Back in the bare-knuckle days? I bet Angle would knock his scrawny ass out if they put on the gloves today.

Reid said Angle was "desperate" in the final days of the campaign, including by airing an ad hitting at Reid for his D.C. condominium.

Right. How dare that crazy Angle woman point out this man of the people is living large in a luxury hotel. The nerve of her.

Idiots in Arms

Look at the bright side: This could well be the last time you see these two clowns together. One has to get back to the link after spending the last couple of weeks wasting your money campaigning for Democrats, and the decrepit pasty fellow is going to be retired in 10 days, even though he claims to have saved the planet from depression. Such claims ring hollow when Las Vegas has a reported 15% unemployment rate.

Harry Reid is not closing strong.

Reid benefited from the previous two months of the campaign when most of the focus was on his opponent. Her surprise primary victory, gaffes, attacks on the GOP establishment, heck, even her hairdo, have come in for close scrutiny as the Tea Party storyline has gripped political reporters.

But in the closing days of the campaign, the focus is turning to the incumbent, and not with very favorable results.

A Democratic pollster told Power Play that Reid's performance has been "underwhelming" in the late campaign days and that party polls show that the Senate majority leader has been "maxed out" for several weeks.

Though he is quick to point out that Angle's situation is precarious and that voters could "turn on her quickly," he conceded that things are not shaping up well for Reid.

Public polls show the same thing - Reid has been stuck at about 47 percent of the vote. Angle, on the other hand, has crossed the 50 percent threshold in several recent surveys.

The desperate Obama, meanwhile, kept up with his extremist rhetoric.

President Barack Obama, fighting to keep Democrats in control of the U.S. Senate, accused Republicans on Friday of peddling discredited "snake oil ideas" about the U.S. economy.

Snake oil, huh? A little bit of projection there, no?

I'm thinking that moniker Imam Obamadinejad really fits.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) went up with its first TV ad in Nevada on Tuesday, hitting Reid for living at the Ritz-Carlton in the city's west end.

"You know that I had nothing to do with these unemployment figures," Reid is shown saying.

"To him, it's a figure," the announcer says, "maybe because Harry lives at the Ritz-Carlton while thousands are losing their homes."

When Congress reconvenes after the election, lawmakers will vote on a measure to give an extra $250 to Social Security recipients, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid promised Monday.

Democrats are billing the measure as a necessary helping hand for seniors in a year when they won’t be seeing any incremental increase in their benefit checks, as usually happens from year to year.

Since 1975, those annual increases have been tied to inflation – but according to the Labor Department, there hasn’t been much of that this year.

It's a last-ditch effort, say Republicans.

"It's clearly a last-ditch election-year Hail Mary," said Michael Steel, a spokesman for House Republican leader John Boehner of Ohio. If supplementing the incomes of seniors was really a priority, he said, Democrats would have acted on it before they adjourned for the campaign.

Dingy Harry: Obama Like a Chilean Miner or Something

Well, he has a point. He's in over his head, he's leading a party that's about to be buried by an avalanche in two weeks and he's completely in the dark.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has compared President Barack Obama to a trapped Chilean miner.

In a speech to supporters in Las Vegas on Sunday night, Reid said that when Obama replaced George W. Bush in the White House he found himself in a "hole so deep that he couldn't see the outside world.

"It was like the Chilean miners, but he, being the man he is, rolled up his sleeves and said 'I am going to get us out of this hole,'" Reid said at an "Early Vote GOTV" event.

At a Democratic rally in Boston on Saturday, Obama acknowledged Democrats in general were in a hole, heading up to the mid-term elections.

If I were one of those miners I'd be offended this miserable man is trying to score cheap political points off my plight.

New Sharron Angle Ad: Dingy Harry Gives Viagra to Child Molesters

Commenters at the Politico are freaking out over this.

The vote Angle cited was an amendment offered to the major health care bill by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) in hopes of killing it. While the amendment sought to prevent the sale of Viagra to sexual predators using health care funds, there was no portion of the bill authorizing funds to provide the drug to sex offenders to begin with.

Democrats voted to table the amendment in order to continue consideration of the full measure.

Indeed, probably not the best line of attack considering Reid can be pummeled on a thousand different votes.

Angle, meanwhile, has increased her lead to 50-46. Looks like Reid's campaign could use some Viagra. Any incumbents under 50% at this juncture are in deep trouble.

Mayor Bloomberg will host a fund-raiser for embattled Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid on Sept. 20 -- just weeks after the Nevada incumbent bucked Hizzoner by opposing a mosque near Ground Zero.

The Nevada lawmaker announced last week that he preferred placing the mosque elsewhere, distancing himself from President Obama, who ignited a backlash after speaking out in support of the project.

The only thing that could make this worse is if Chuckie Schumer was there. Oh, wait.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg continued to lecture the overwhelming majority of Americans last night who oppose the Victory Mosque.

“This is plain and simple people trying to stir up things to get publicity and trying to polarize people so that they can get some votes,” Bloomberg added. “And I don’t think that most of these people who are yelling and screaming really care one way or another.”

Since the beginning I never saw a single politician trying to use the mosque issue as a means of "polarizing" people to get votes. In fact the most outspoken politician on the issue has been Bloomberg himself, and he's been the most derisively sneering and polarizing person on the issue, by far. Now how hypocritical can he be when he's raising money for a certain senator from Nevada who actually has used the issue as a cheap way to pander for votes?

Heh: Woman's Obit Slams Dingy Harry

You know you're in bad shape when people are even taking potshots at you in their obituaries.

Election 2010 has just heard from a member of the Silent Majority.

You know, from a deceased person.

Chances are good you never met Charlotte McCourt during her 84 years, but I’m willing to bet you’ll be hearing about her in the coming days now that her obituary has taken Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to task. It’s the kind of small story that has the potential to ricochet like a bullet through the campaign showdown between incumbent Reid and Republican challenger Sharron Angle.

Not because McCourt, who died July 8 after a long illness, was a political player or business powerbroker, but precisely because she was neither of those things. She was a homemaker, proud mother and grand mother and wife of 67 years to Patrick McCourt.

And she was at one time a loyal supporter of Harry Reid.

Her obituary, printed in Tuesday’s Review-Journal, reads in part, “We believe that Mom would say she was mortified to have taken a large role in the election of Harry Reid to U.S. Congress. Let the record show Charlotte was displeased with his work. Please, in lieu of flowers, vote for another more worthy candidate.”

Ouch.

Well, that's one dead voter not likely to be voting Democrat.

Meanwhile, the walking political corpse that is Dingy Harry again stepped in it yesterday.

Immigration reform critics are seizing on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's comments this week that seemed to downplay the number of illegal immigrants working construction jobs in Nevada, even though a recent study found that his home state had the largest percentage of undocumented workers in the country.

When a reporter from KLAS-TV in Las Vegas told Reid a 2009 Pew Hispanic Center report found 17 percent of the nation’s construction workers were undocumented, the Nevada Democrat replied: “That may be some place, but it’s not here in Nevada.”

Technically it may be true since thanks to Reid and Obama's disastrous economic policies there's pretty much no growth, no construction and zero jobs being created anywhere.

The theme of the campaign launch has been "No one can do more," and is intended to remind Nevada voters how lucky they are to have Reid.

In a year when incumbency is a toxic trait, Reid is emphasizing his insider status.

Reid is rolling out high-profile visitors from Washington and an expensive ad campaign in a bid to show that his newly minted Republican opponent, former state Assemblywoman Sharron Angle, is simply too small-time to represent Nevada.

Despite still trailing in the polls, Reid promises victory because Republicans have picked a Tea Party-style candidate instead of a more conventional nominee.

The man who heralded the opening of the new Capitol Visitors Center as a way to avoid having to "smell the tourists" is now going to dare Nevadans to vote against him.

Just when Democrats were breathing a sigh of relief about Reid drawing an underfunded right-winger for his opponent, the majority leader rolled out the most unappealing campaign for a longtime incumbent with miserable job approval ratings (33 percent in the latest poll).

Angle, for her part, is already firing away.

Angle isn't above reeling off a list of Reid's greatest gaffes, either.

Appearing on Alan Stock's conservative radio talk show on KXNT-AM, 840, Angle made a reference to the hot water Reid got into earlier this year when a book revealed the Senate majority leader said Obama could win the presidency in part because of his style and appearance.

"I'm more mainstream than the fellow that said tourists stink, this war is lost, and light-skinned no-Negro dialect," Angle said, adding that's what a "whack-job, marginal candidate sounds like."

Pathetic: Dingy Harry Calls GOP Anti-American, Kerry Calls Wall Street Unpatriotic

Goodness, can these desperate Democrats sink any further into the gutter. On the losing side now of every issue, they're flailing about wildly, smearing Republicans and American businessmen with impunity now. I recall it wasn't long ago that is was bad form to question someone's patriotism and gutter politics to call someone un-American? Well, I guess those days are over. Funny how silent Bill Clinton is these days now that Republicans are being accused of being un-American. First, there's Lerch, speaking of unpatriotic, lashing out at Wall Street.

Wall Street officials suffered from a "lack of patriotism" in their practices during the financial crisis, Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) said Wednesday.

Kerry, a senior Democrat in the Senate, suggested that Wall Street showed a disregard for the public good during the run up to the financial crisis in the fall of 2008.

"I think people really just sense that there's a lack of patriotism in it -- there's a lack of concern about the country," Kerry said on "Imus in the Morning" on the Fox Business Network. "It's just, 'Hey, let's just make our money and run. Devil be damned what the implications are.'"

So says the guy living off his rich wife.

Then we have the soon-to-be former Senator of Nevada whining like a little bitch because he can't break a filibuster.

Republicans efforts to block Wall Street reform are "anti-American," Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said today.

The GOP has successfully blocked Democratic efforts to begin debate on the bill.

"But all the talk of the Republicans about wanting to do something about this before it gets on the floor is really anti-Senate and anti-American," Reid told reporters.

"They keep stalling and they keep stalling," he added. "And it appears that they're more concerned about taking care of the fat cats on Wall Street than they are the people who aren't so fat, the people who have been hit so hard, the consumers of America."

Democratic senators writing an immigration bill are circulating details about their emerging proposal that would secure the border before illegal immigrants could become legal U.S. residents.

The plan would increase the number of border and immigration enforcement agents, and lays out security benchmarks. The Associated Press obtained a copy of the draft legislation on Wednesday that is being developed by Sens. Harry Reid of Nevada, Charles Schumer of New York and Robert Menendez of New Jersey.

Oh, sure, we can trust Dingy Harry, Schmucky Schumer and the oily Bob Menendez, right?

Dingy Harry: Supreme Court are 'People Who Have Never Seen the Outside World'

So says a career politician who's clueless as to what's going on in the real world outside Washington.

Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., criticized the American Bar Association on Thursday, saying it should "get a new life" in how it rates prospective federal judges, after one of his choices got a mixed review.

In remarks to the Senate Judiciary Committee, Reid said the bar association's ratings board puts too much weight on whether judicial nominees have prior bench experience and overlooks "real world" qualifications.

Reid expanded his criticism to include the Supreme Court, whose makeup, he said, consists of "people who have never seen the outside world."

"I have asked President (Barack) Obama, 'Let's get somebody on the court that has not been a judge.' They need to do more than thinking of themselves as these people who walk around in these robes in these fancy chambers."

Reid was set off by the ABA's rating of Las Vegas attorney Gloria Navarro, who also appeared before the Senate committee as his choice and Obama's nominee to become a U.S. district judge in Nevada.

According to the association's 15-member Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary, a "substantial majority," consisting of 10 to 13 members, rated Navarro "qualified," while a minority rated her "not qualified."

The bar shares its ratings in an advisory capacity with the White House and the Senate, which votes on the nominees.

The committee considers a nominee's "professional competence, integrity and judicial temperament." It rates each nominee as "well qualified," "qualified," or "not qualified."

Navarro, 42, has been in private practice, has been a public defender and currently is chief deputy district attorney in the civil division of the Clark County district attorney's office.

Several attorneys and academics who examined Navarro's resume speculated that her lack of experience as a judge may have been the reason some ABA reviewers rated her "not qualified" for the federal bench.

Reid told the Judiciary Committee it was "upsetting to me" that Navarro "is not rated as high as she should be rated."

Dingy Harry will be "getting a new life" come November, rest assured.
