A GROUP of teenagers involved in a crash that killed an 82-year-old man and left his 72-year-old partner fighting for her life had fast food delivered to them at the crash site, a witness says.

The elderly couple were in a van involved in a collision at a Gold Coast roundabout with an unregistered car allegedly driven by a disqualified teen driver on Saturday, the Gold Coast Bulletin reported.

Residents who lived near the roundabout in Miami said that as they rushed to help the couple, the five teenagers in the Subaru WRX got out and watched.

Resident Stephen Waymouth said the van was still rolling when he looked over his fence.

When he reached it he saw the man was unconscious and the woman was "wailing".

While residents comforted the distressed woman, the five teens stood motionless on the footpath, he said.

Lovely kids.

New York Comptroller Hints at Bailout

And so it goes. The very blue state of New York, controlled entirely by Democrats, with New York City under control of a guy who can't figure out what party he wants to belong to, is now getting ready to sidle up to the federal trough.

Watch your wallet, folks.

New York Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says the financial crisis gripping Wall Street and the world economy could cost the state and New York City 225,000 jobs over the next two years.

DiNapoli says instability in the securities industry could also cost the state and city $6.5 billion in tax revenue during that same period.

The report issued Monday suggests the city and state may need a federal bailout despite the efforts of Gov. David Paterson and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to close budget deficits.

Wonderful. So due to the sheer incompetence of the hacks running New York into the ground, the rest of the country will be left bailing them out. You can be sure Barack Obama and his crack economic team will be sure to take care of a reliable Democratic state.

Meanwhile, you would think a guy like DiNapoli, who's apparently failing miserably at his job, would be looking to bail out himself. Instead, he's hiring Obama's pollster as he looks toward 2010.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli's 2010 campaign committee announced today that it has hired the Benenson Strategy Group to work on his first statewide run.

The firm's founding partner and namesake, Joel Benenson, has a long history of working for pols in the metropolitan area, but is best known these days as the key pollster for Barack Obama's presidential campaign.

So far, public polls have shown the greatest obstacle facing DiNapoli, who, until the Legislature elevated him to his current post in February 2007, was an assemblyman from Long Island, is the fact that he lacks name recognition - more than half of New Yorkers consistently say they have no clue who he is.

FOX News Channel's (FNC) Alan Colmes will relinquish his role as co-host of Hannity & Colmes at the end of the year.

In announcing his decision, Colmes said, "I approached Bill Shine (FNC's Senior Vice President of Programming) earlier this year about wanting to move on after 12 years to develop new and challenging ways to contribute to the growth of the network. Although it's bittersweet to leave one of the longest marriages on cable news, I'm proud that both Sean (Hannity) and I remained unharmed after sitting side by side, night after night for so many years."

Colmes will continue to have a presence on FNC as he will serve as a liberal commentator on a variety of FOX News programming, including Foxnews.com's The Strategy Room and continue hosting his radio program, The Alan Colmes Show on FOX Talk, a division of FOX News Radio. He will also begin developing a weekend program.

Cruel and Unusual Punishment: Noise Violators Forced to Listen to Manilow, Barney

This could be harsher than a trip to Club Gitmo.

Barry Manilow's "I Write the Songs" may begin with the line, "I've been alive forever,"' but for noise ordinance violators, listening to Manilow may feel like forever.

Fort Lupton Municipal Judge Paul Sacco says his novel punishment of forcing noise violators to listen to music they don't like for one hour has cut down on the number of repeat offenders in this northwestern Colorado prairie town.

About four times a year, those who plead guilty to noise ordinance violations are required to sit in a room and listen to music from the likes of Manilow, Barney the Dinosaur, and The Platters' crooning "Only You".

They should try forcing them to sit through repeated airings of that annoying Subway "Five Dollar" commercial as well. That must have aired about 30 times during football yesterday.

Media Faces 'Two Years of Carnage'

I guess I'd feel sympathy for them, but considering for the most part the media is the enemy of conservatism, I'll shall shed no tears. They created their own mess, let them stew in it.

JOURNALISTS have been warned they cannot be spectators if they are to survive the new world of media fragmentation and digitalisation -- an environment dubbed a "perfect storm".

"A report, Life in the Clickstream: The Future of Journalism, released today by the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance, warns that the Western media industry faces "two years of carnage", squeezed by the global economic meltdown and the unravelling of traditional economic models.

The report reveals that more than 12,000 journalists worldwide have lost their jobs so far this year.

Commentators from around the world warn the multiplying effects of cost-cutting and reduced quality could result in the collapse of the US's biggest media companies, while in Britain it is predicted that between five and 11 newspapers will vanish.

Emily Bell, The Guardian's content director, warns Britain could be left without a single British-owned broadcaster outside of the BBC and the once vibrant regional media market faces near annihilation.

Media Alliance federal secretary Christopher Warren says journalism has traditionally thrived on the emergence of disruptive technologies even as economic models have changed.

"Like all crises, the challenges journalism faces are rewriting everything we thought we knew about the news media and causing us to question the basis on which the industry has survived and flourished," Warren says.

The shifts experienced in the media are "exciting and disquieting", and journalists are using technology to find new and progressive ways to keep the public informed, he says. It's "disquieting because the mainstream industry is in such turmoil".

Maybe they can start blogging. But they should realize they would no longer have a built-in audience and you're only as good as your last post.

I doubt most of them would survive knowing that.

The craziest notion floating about is bailing out the networks. If the government thinks the media is hated now, try that and see how much respect they get.

Granted, we already have NBC on welfare.

'Popular' Chavez Loses Key Races

Depending on the media sources you check, Hugo Chavez either remains hugely popular and won big in nationwide votes Sunday or his grip on power is slipping.

Venezuelan opposition parties won races for mayor of Caracas and governor in at least three states, beating President Hugo Chavez’s candidates four years after his coalition took near total control of regional governments.

Chavez’s Venezuelan United Socialist Party, or PSUV, was upset by the opposition in Zulia and Miranda, the country’s two most populous states, and may lose two more states when final tallies are published, according to results announced by the National Elections Board. The president, whose candidates won 21 out of 23 state elections in 2004, still controls 17 governorships.

“We’re committed to this city and to the most poor,” Caracas mayor-elect and opposition leader Antonio Ledezma said after hearing the results. “To the president of the republic I have a message: You and I have many differences, but I invite the president to work with us to save Caracas.”

The opposition’s wins today are a blow to Chavez’s drive to centralize control of the oil-exporting country. While the president remains popular among poor voters, accelerating inflation, rising crime and a plunge in oil prices have caused voters to question his socialist political agenda.

Despite these setbacks, CNN, naturally, says Chavez passed the test.

The Wall Street Journal says results were a sharp rebuke of Chavez.

Delivering a sharp rebuke to the decade-long presidency of Hugo Chávez, Venezuelans elevated opposition candidates into key governorships during closely watched elections across the nation.

The result is a dramatic reversal for Mr. Chávez, who won all but two governorships in voting just four years ago. This time, Chávez opponents clinched races in some of Venezuela's most important regions -- including Miranda state and the Caracas federal district.

By placing much of the nation's population and economic power under opposition control, the outcome restricts Mr. Chávez's ability to push his self-styled Socialist revolution-including a bid to extend his presidency indefinitely.

"Now is the time for true change," said Antonio Ledezma, who won in the Caracas federal district, as fireworks echoed through the city.

These results must be very disappointing for the good friend of the revolution, Bill Ayers.

Meanwhile, Chavez is deepening ties with Iran and conducting military exercises with Russia. Sure doesn't look as if this thug plans on going anywhere.

So now that the feds are bailing out Citigroup, isn't it time the troubled outfit voluntarily withdrew from having its name on top of a new baseball stadium?

The good news for the Mets is they still have a name and a sponsor for their new stadium.

The bad news for a franchise that has had two straight late-season collapses is that it is now linked with a bank trying to stave off its own collapse.

Citigroup, which agreed in 2006 to a 20-year, $400 million contract to name the Mets’ new stadium Citi Field, has absorbed billions of dollars in losses because of the subprime mortgage crisis and the floundering economy.

Granted, that $400 million deal is almost chump change compared to the billions they're getting from taxpayers.

But how is it going to sit with investors and employees out of a job to see this outfit with their name on top of a ballfield?

I've never been crazy for corporate sponsorship of athletic facilities, but that genie was out of the bottle years ago.

Here's an idea: Since New York is the bluest of blue states and renaming schools and streets after Barack Obama seems to be all the rage, why not just be done with it and name it after him?

PASSENGERS complaining about delays should spare a thought for a Japanese tourist who has spent almost three months in the Mexico City airport.

Hiroshi Nohara flew into Mexico on September 2 with a tourist visa and a return ticket home, but has never left the airport.

For reasons he can't explain, Nohara has been in Terminal 1 of the Benito Juarez International Airport, surviving off donations from fast food restaurants and passengers and sleeping in a chair.

Striking similarities to Tom Hanks' character in the film The Terminal, the Tokyo native has become a local celebrity and says he had no motive for his extended stay and doesn't know how much longer he'll remain.

"I don't understand why I'm here. I don't have a reason," Mr Nohara told AP news service.

MPs are demanding to know whether the Government knew in advance of a successful U.S. operation to kill a British terror suspect in Pakistan.

Rashid Rauf, 27 - accused of masterminding the 2006 liquid bomb plot which paralysed airports - is said to have been killed in a missile attack early on Saturday.

Late on Friday he was apparently pinpointed at a remote stronghold in Pakistan's tribal badlands bordering Afghanistan.

A remote- control 'drone' then flew to Rauf's location - and unleashed three Hellfire missiles, destroying the mud-walled house and killing him and four Al Qaeda henchmen, according to Pakistan intelligence sources.

British police have had a warrant for Rauf's arrest since 2002 when he fled his native Birmingham.

Four years later intelligence reports suggested he was working in Pakistan for Al Qaeda - and had put together a team plotting to smuggle liquid bombs on to airliners and blow a number of them out of the sky simultaneously.

He was arrested in Pakistan, but mysteriously escaped, possibly with the help of fanatics within the security services.

His whereabouts were unknown until Friday.

Last night a spokesman for the Foreign Office refused to discuss the alleged killing of a British citizen overseas.

Labour and Conservative-MPs said the incident raised important questions.

The Labour chairman of the parliamentary committee on human rights, Andrew Dismore, said he would refer the matter to his committee for possible investigation.

Mr Dismore said: 'This is a very serious matter, particularly if the attack was based on intelligence from British security agencies.'

Tory former shadow security minister, and MP for Newark, Patrick Mercer, said: 'This raises the question of how much co-operation the British intelligence agencies provided in what is ultimately the execution of a British subject.

'The Government must explain its future policy in this area.'

Are these people insane? What should have been done? Take him into custody, return him to Britain and then let him escape again?

The Left Will Still Have Something to Moan About: Bush to Open 'Freedom Institute'

If it's anything the left hates, it's freedom. I can already see the protests, the Hitler signs, the giant puppet heads and the like outside protesting the Freedom Institute.

Outgoing US President George W. Bush plans to open a presidential library in Texas and found a "Freedom Institute" to promote democracy, his wife Laura Bush confirmed to Peru's El Comercio daily.

"The president will build a library in Dallas -- where we will move to -- and a Freedom Institute," she said in an interview published Sunday, as her husband wrapped up his participation in a weekend summit in Lima by Asia-Pacific leaders.

"The institute will give us both the opportunity to work on issues that are very important to us," she said, according to the Spanish-language translation by the newspaper.

Laura Bush, a former teacher, said she wanted to return to the field of education, as well as "working for human rights for women in Afghanistan."

Bush, who joked during the APEC summit about his upcoming "forced retirement," is due to hand over power to his Democrat successor Barack Obama on January 20, 2009.

US media have already quoted aides and Texas lawmakers on the plans for the presidential library -- in fact more of a museum, with documents and gifts accumulated during Bush's time in office -- and the Freedom Institute.

The US publication The Week said the George W. Bush Presidential Library would be built at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

Considering Bush helped free 50 million living under tyranny in Afghanistan and Iraq, this seems appropriate. Of course, few will ever than him for that.

U.S. President-elect Barack Obama is considering delaying his proposal to repeal the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans in light of the economic downturn, two aides said on Sunday.

Bill Daley, an adviser to Obama and commerce secretary under former President Bill Clinton, said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that it “looks more likely than not” that President Obama will delay any tax increase until after 2010, when the Bush cuts for those making more than $250,000 are due to expire.

Mr. Daley was reacting to a report in Sunday’s New York Times that said Mr. Obama was considering putting off the tax increases to give his ambitious economic stimulus proposals a chance to work, quoting several people familiar with the discussions. On Saturday, Mr. Obama announced that he had instructed his advisers to prepare a two-year stimulus package with the goal of saving or creating 2.5 million jobs.

Or this could just be blowing smoke in an attempt to limit the Wall Street meltdown. A firm "no new taxes" pledge would help, but hey, those promises can always be broken, and I'd hedge a bet if Obama broke such a pledge he wouldn't suffer the widespread condemnation suffered by Bush 41.

'We Would All Like To Be Tanned Like Naomi Campbell and Obama'

Earlier this month when Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi noted how beautiful Barack Obama's "tan" was, the predictable outrage followed.

Well, apparently Silvio isn't done tweaking The Messiah. Expect more hyperventilating from the left when they see his latest remarks.

Italy's Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi brushed aside international outrage from earlier this month on Sunday to make reference once again to US president-elect Barack Obama's "suntan."

He told ANSA news agency his initial remark was intended as a "compliment," adding that he is equally "envious" of black supermodel Naomi Campbell.

"My compliment to Barack is a little envious," said Berlusconi, who had what he described as a "long, cordial" telephone conversation with the new occupant of the White House -- instigated by Obama -- on November 7.

"We would all like to be tanned like Naomi Campbell and Obama," said the self-made billionaire, who sports a permanent tan, during a press conference in Pescara, Italy.

Surprise! More Tax Cheat Woes For Rangel

There comes a point where the guy just has to go. Let's see, we've got the villa in the Dominican, the four rent-controlled apartments, the unregistered Cadillac in DC, and now some "homestead" tax break in DC. Oh, but Nancy Pelosi finds nothing wrong with any of this and apparently nobody cares that we have a tax dodger writing our tax code.

Harlem Rep. Charles Rangel took a "homestead" tax break on a Washington, DC, house for years while simultaneously occupying multiple rent-stabilized apartments in New York City, possibly violating laws and regulations in both cases.

The situation raises a number of potential problems for the congressman, including:

* New York City law requires that tenants use rent-stabilized apartments as their primary residence.

* DC's real Property Homestead Deduction Act also requires that a property receiving the benefit be a primary residence.

* Tax lawyers told The Post that a property owner cannot have two primary residences - or take advantages provided to primary residences at two different addresses simultaneously.

* DC's law also requires that the owner of a property benefiting from the tax break be a personal-income taxpayer in DC. District law exempts members of Congress from paying personal DC income tax, but they must pay property tax.

The DC rules state that "by maintaining a residence in his home state and actively voting there, [a member of Congress] is demonstrating that he continues to be a part of the body politic of his home state . . . The Member is a domiciliary of his home state. Because he is not domiciled in the District, the Member cannot claim the District's homestead deduction."

Said Natasha Altamirano, a spokeswoman for the National Taxpayers Union, "If a member of Congress maintains his or her principal residence in the state they represent, they would not qualify for the homestead exemption."

Meanwhile, the New York City Rent Stabilization Code states that its rules do not apply to "housing accommodations which are not occupied by the tenant . . . as his or her primary residence."

Dov Treiman, a Manhattan real-estate attorney, said, "If the [rent-stabilized] apartment in New York is not your primary residence, the landlord has the right to bring a court proceeding to have you evicted."

Commence with the eviction proceedings forthwith.

On the campaign trail, Barack Obama promised to get a million plug-in hybrid cars on the road by 2015. His own new presidential limousine will be far from green, however.

The Obamobile being prepared for the president-elect is said to be a monster gas-guzzler made by General Motors, the troubled car giant. It will look like a black Cadillac but is built like a tank. A spy photographer who tracks down future car models for magazines snatched pictures of the heavily disguised first-car-in-waiting when it was being road-tested last summer.

The armour-plated car, which has a raised roof, windows up to 5in thick, extra-strength tyres and a body made of steel, aluminium, titanium and ceramics, is thought to be based on a GMC 2500 truck that gets less than 10 miles to the gallon. Three cars are believed to be in production so that two can serve as decoys.

All Obama needs to do is pay lip service to the environmental wackos and all will be forgiven.

Most environmentalists are in forgiving mood at the prospect of the greenest US president yet. Obama vowed to press ahead with his plans to reduce CO2 emissions while speaking last week to a bipartisan conference on climate sponsored by Arnold Schwarzenegger, the governor of California.

Obama repeated his campaign pledge to reduce carbon emissions by 80% by 2050 and to invest $15 billion a year on energy-saving technologies despite the economic melt-down. “Now is the time to confront this challenge once and for all,” Obama said. “Delay is no longer an option. Denial is nolonger an acceptable response.”

I suspect denial of reality will be in full effect the next four years.

Good News: Obama Plans to Keep the House Rezko Bought For Him

Hey, he got such a good deal on the place, why give it up? With any luck, in four years he'll be making arrangements to move back in.

The Obama family will keep their home in Chicago's Hyde Park when they move to Washington in January, the president-elect told someone in a local deli.

A news camera caught Barack Obama saying in Manny's Deli on Friday afternoon the real estate market makes it a bad idea to sell the $1.6 million home where he lives with his wife Michelle and daughters Sasha and Malia.

"We're keeping our house," Mr. Obama told a woman in the deli in a comment caught by the CBS-2 camera and posted online in a "Web extra."

He grinned, adding, "We're staying in there for awhile. Now's not the time to sell."

Shocker: CAIR, Muslim Leaders Denounce Al Qaeda

Flying planes into buildings and murdering 2800 people on one morning wasn't enough for them to condemn Al Qaeda. Mass murder, bombings, beheadings, none of that offended them.

So what is it now that they take umbrage with?

Spiritual leaders of New York's African-American Muslim communities lashed out Friday at a purported al Qaeda message attacking President-elect Barack Obama and, using racist language, comparing him unfavorably to the late Malcolm X.

The imams called the recorded comments from al Qaeda second-in-command Ayman al-Zawahiri "an insult" from people who have "historically been disconnected from the African-American community generally and Muslim African-Americans in particular."

"We find it insulting when anyone speaks for our community instead of giving us the dignity and the honor of speaking for ourselves," they said in a statement read during a news conference at the Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial, Educational and Cultural Center.

The al Qaeda statement, an 11-minute, 23-second audio message in Arabic with subtitles in English, appeared on the Internet on Wednesday. Its authenticity has not been confirmed.

The message said Obama represents the "direct opposite of honorable black Americans" like Malcolm X.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations also condemned Zawahiri's comments in a statement issued Thursday.

"As Muslims and as Americans, we will never let terrorist groups or terror leaders falsely claim to represent us or our faith," the statement said. "We once again repudiate al Qaeda's actions, rhetoric and world view and re-state our condemnation of all forms of terrorism and religious extremism."

Sure, they reject all forms of terrorism (wink, wink). So why is it they're always defending terrorists?

You Cannot Be Serious: Double Dutch As An Olympic Sport?

I'll admit there are several events during both the Winter and Summer Olympics that are rather dubious and are niche sports at best. But seriously, for anyone to even consider jumping rope an Olympic sport needs to have their head checked. It's an activity, yes, and it takes some coordination and skill. But it's jumping rope!

Good grief.

Double dutch, once a pastime of American black teenage girls, has gone global.

It's become such a hot jump-rope sport around the world that a team from Japan keeps winning an annual competition at Harlem's Apollo Theater.

Now, the New York-based National Double Dutch League is asking the International Olympic Committee to make it an official sport in future Games.

"In Beijing this year, some of what masqueraded as sports _ you couldn't compare that to what three, four, five, six people do in double dutch, to how coordinated they have to be, how synchronized," said Jim Greene, an organizer of the Dec. 7 championship.

He added, "There's athleticism! There's acrobatics!"

Greene said he sent an e-mail to the committee several months ago but has received no response. The nonprofit league also has encouraged aficionados to ask elected officials to support the effort.

A call Saturday to the IOC's headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, was not immediately returned.

Don't expect a return call any time soon.

NFL Week 12

We head into the final six weeks of the NFL season with the New York Giants and Tennessee Titans seemingly destined for a Super Bowl showdown. As we know, however, things can change quickly. At this point last season, did anyone realistically think the Giants were going to be in the Super Bowl, let alone win it? Well, these two teams keep mowing down the competition and this week both face 7-3 teams looking for the upset in probably the best matchups of Week 12.

We had Pittsburgh Thursday night so we now stand at 78-80-3 for the season.

Giants -3 CARDINALS: I keep thinking this is a game the Giants will probably lose, but then I see that in Vegas 86% of the money is going with the Giants, an astonishing number. Sure, Kurt Warner is lighting it up this year, but he tends to fumble a lot when pressured and the G-Men can bring it. Oh, and they can run at will on people, so that will keep Warner on the sidelines enough. Giants 34-24

'It Was Extreme Bias, Extreme Pro-Obama Coverage'

You know the media is hopelessly biased when a liberal from Time magazine admits how bad it's gotten.

Media bias was more intense in the 2008 election than in any other national campaign in recent history, Time magazine's Mark Halperin said Friday at the Politico/USC conference on the 2008 election.

"It's the most disgusting failure of people in our business since the Iraq war," Halperin said at a panel of media analysts. "It was extreme bias, extreme pro-Obama coverage."

Halperin, who maintains Time's political site "The Page," cited two New York Times articles as examples of the divergent coverage of the two candidates.

"The example that I use, at the end of the campaign, was the two profiles that The New York Times ran of the potential first ladies," Halperin said. "The story about Cindy McCain was vicious. It looked for every negative thing they could find about her and it case her in an extraordinarily negative light. It didn't talk about her work, for instance, as a mother for her children, and they cherry-picked every negative thing that's ever been written about her."

The story about Michelle Obama, by contrast, was "like a front-page endorsement of what a great person Michelle Obama is," according to Halperin.

Still, having admitted this, Halperin can't help but gush over Obama anyway.

"You do have to take into account the fact that this was a remarkable candidacy," Halperin said. "There were a lot of good stories. He was new."

Of course, nothing will change now that they got Obama elected. They'll fawn and slobber over every move he makes.

Forget about criticizing him. That'll never happen, unless he appoints a token Republican who isn't a media darling.
