Lingerie Model Turned Drug Smuggler

Imagine my shock to discover some models might have a thing for cocaine.

A lingerie model is believed to be the mastermind behind an all-women drug gang that smuggles cocaine into Britain.

An international arrest warrant has been issued for Angie Sanselmente Valencia, 30, who is said to only hire glamour models to transport the drugs from South America to Europe.

It's believed that Colombian-born Valencia had been seeing a Mexican drug lord known as 'The Monster' but split with him at the end of last year to form her own cocaine-smuggling gang.

She is said to describe the women working for her as 'unsuspicious, beautiful angels'. The women are told to be 'nice, but not flashy'.

Valencia, who was crowned Colombia's 'Queen Of Coffee' in 2000, left modelling and moved to Argentina late last year to establish her network.

Her 'angels' were paid £3,200 for each trip they made and one of her gang is believed to have boarded a flight every 24 hours with the packages of cocaine.
From Argentina they would fly up to the Mexican Caribbean resort of Cancun and from there they would smuggle them into Europe.

However her network began to unravel several weeks ago when one of her 'drug mules' was caught at Argentina's Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires carrying 55kg of cocaine.

Fifty-five kilos? That's more weight than most models themselves. Either that's an incorrect figure or she had two large suitcases packed with cocaine.

It also seems her mules aren't the brightest bulbs.

The 21-year-old woman began to talk and within 12 hours police investigators had arrested a further three people.

The drug mule had made no attempt to hide the cocaine in her suitcase because she'd been told no one would stop her at the airport, according to Argentine newspaper La Nacion.

Police are now investigating the gang's links to people working at the airport.
Following the arrests Valencia promptly disappeared from a four-star hotel in Buenos Aires but is still believed to be in the South American country.

Napolitano Slips Up, Uses the 'T-Word'

From the woman who nearly a year ago blessed us with the absurdity known as man-caused disasters, a clear sign back then the administration's approach to Islamic extremism would be meek and timorous, at best. Now whether this admission today represents a sea-change or if she simply folded under questioning remains to be seen.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has become the first Obama Administration official to publicly describe last year's deadly shootings at Ft. Hood, Tex., as a terrorist act, according to a search of news clips and transcripts.

"Violent Islamic terrorism ... was part and parcel of the Ft. Hood killings," Napolitano told the Senate Homeland Security Committee on Wednesday morning. "There is violent Islamic terrorism, be it Al Qaeda in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen or anywhere else, [and] that is indeed a major focus of this department and its efforts."

In the months since an Army psychiatrist -- who had been in contact with a radical Muslim cleric in Yemen -- opened fired inside the Army base, many on Capitol Hill have urged administration officials to publicly identify the attack as terrorism.

Those calls have been used by Republicans and others to paint administration officials as weak on terrorism and subsequently unwilling to use the word "terrorism."

During the Senate hearing on Wednesday morning, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT), the Homeland Security Committee's chairman, called the administration's "reluctance" to use terms such as "Islamist extremism" or "Muslim terrorist" a "pet peeve of mine."

He said his "concern" about the issue was "aroused again" when an internal Pentagon review of the events leading up to the attack by Army Maj. Nidal Hasan on Nov. 5, 2009, never used such terms.

Lieberman asked Napolitano: "Has the administration made a decision to avoid any public reference to 'violent Islamist extremism' or 'Muslim terrorists'?"

Napolitano denied any such move.

"There has been no such decision," she said. "The [phrase] that you refer to, 'violent Islamic terrorism,' is something that we fight and deal with every day at the Department of Homeland Security. There is no doubt about that. It was the motivation [for the failed Christmas Day bombing], it was part and parcel of the Ft. Hood killings and other incidents we have seen this year within the United States."

It's obvious there was a decision to not use the word. Otherwise why the idiotic man-caused disaster?

This comes a month after a senior Obama Administration official characterized the Ft. Hood attack, which killed 13 people and wounded dozens more, as "an act of terrorism." But that official did not want to be identified publicly, speaking to reporters only on the condition of anonymity.

These people have no compunction running around calling tea party folks teabaggers at the drop of the hat, yet for months were reticent to label a terrorist a terrorist. I guess the teabaggers pose a greater threat in their minds.

Young Voters Tiring of Hopenchange

This is probably why Obama is already kicking off his 2012 campaign. He might need a little extra time convincing the young skulls full of mush who are abandoning him in droves.

Barack Obama wasn't banking on this kind of change when he rode to victory on a wave of young voters' support.

Gridlock in Washington and an escalating war in Afghanistan are behind waning support among 18 - 29-year-olds for the Democratic Party, a new poll reveals.

The demographic backed Obama's bid for the White House by 2-1 in 2008.

Support among youth for the Democratic Party has dwindled to 54 percent as of December, compared with 62 percent identifying as Democrats in 2008, according to the Pew Research Center study released Wednesday.

Youth identifying as Republicans increased from 30 percent to 40 percent in the same time period.

"This is a generation of young adults who made a big splash politically in 2008," Paul Taylor, executive vice president of the Pew Research Center and co-author of the report, told the Associated Press. "But a year and a half later, they show signs of disillusionment with the president – and, perhaps, with politics itself."

48 percent of respondents said Obama had failed to bring change to D.C. 46 percent said he had.

One silver lining for Obama in the study? Youth might find the president ineffectual -- but they don't think it's all his fault.

50 percent of the youth polled blame Obama's foes and the power of special interests for the logjam in Washington. Only 30 percent said Obama isn't trying hard enough.

Translation: Obama will never admit he's in over his head and will simply blame the evil Republicans for his miserable failures.

The results show many in the age brackets aren't affiliated with either party, but Obama should take little consolation there since independents have abandoned him in droves and will likely help pave the way for the GOP to regain Congress and possibly the Senate come November.

Hillary: Obama's Domestic Incompetence Makes the World Still Hate Us

I don't recall the Democrats ever being concerned that their incessant Bush-bashing hurt our image internationally, though they were sure to remind us at every turn that the world hated us and The One's mere presence on the world stage would repair our image abroad.

So why is Hillary Clinton now moaning that domestic issues are hurting us?

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is complaining that domestic political battles are hurting the president's foreign policy goals and damaging America's image abroad.

Clinton was testifying before a congressional committee Wednesay [sic] when she said fights between the White House and Congress had led to "gridlock" in appointing officials to critical positions, including those with key foreign policy and international assistance responsibilities. That has created confusion among friends and allies.

Last time I checked Democrats had free reign over everything in Washington up until Scott Brown showed up, and I'm not aware Brown has been blocking any appointments. It's not anyone's problem but Obama's that he's so damn incompetent. If there's a problem with his appointees, maybe he ought to start nominating people more in the mainstream rather than far left fringe types he's so fond of.

America's allies and enemies may not have always liked us but they at least respected us and in some cases feared us, which isn't a bad thing. Now they're just laughing at us, I guess. The bumbling idiocy of Obama and his Secretary of State have a lot to do with that.

Cuban Doctors Sue Over 'Modern Form of Slavery'

Just imagine the thousands of lawsuits to come from American doctors after they're forced into slavery under ObamaCare.

Seven Cuban doctors and a nurse say their government conspired with Venezuela and its state-owned oil company to hold them in a "modern form of slavery," as Cuba barters their services for cheap Venezuelan oil. The doctors and nurse say they were put into "servitude for debt," with their work used to "to discount ... the commercial debt ... of the subsidized oil supplies provided by Venezuela to Cuba."

The doctors say that faced with precarious conditions and material needs in Cuba, they were deceived and threatened by Cuban authorities and taken by force to work in violent places in Venezuela, including the jungle rainforest and the frontier with Colombia.

The plaintiffs are a part of a mission called "Barrio Adentro." They say they are held in captivity in crowded lodgings or in houses with families affiliated with the Venezuelan regime. They say they are under strict control, surveillance, and threats by "slave hunters": Venezuelan security officials.

The plaintiffs say they work under an agreement between the two governments, through Petroleos de Venezuela.

The "Convenio Integral de Cooperacion" allows forced labor by doctors in exchange for 100,000 barrels of oil a day, according to the complaint.

No healthcare for oil!

The plaintiffs say they are "living illegally as prisoners" and work without licenses to practice in Venezuela. If they protest, they are returned to Cuba and suffer severe and permanent consequences, they say.

The plaintiffs say they "escaped their bondage n Venezuela, survived a harrowing adventure, and made their way to the United States," and live in Florida. They say they cannot get justice in Cuba or Venezuela, so they sued in Miami.

They demand punitive damages for RICO conspiracy, negligence, false imprisonment and emotional distress.

Champion of Cuban healthcare Michael Moore was unavailable for comment.

Robert Howard Finally Laid To Rest at Arlington

Robert Howard was the most decorated soldier of the Vietnam War. He passed away back in December and is just now being laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. I do not know the reason for the delay, but this guy was truly an American hero, from a time when America spit on its heroes.

What Say You, New Mexico Republicans?

Some folks may be aware of the name Adam Kokesh, but for those who aren't he is an anti-war protesting, socialist-leaning, ex-Marine embarrassment who has decided to run for congress in New Mexico as a Republican.

I cannot say this strong enough: Run, do not walk, away from this living oxygen thief. He has brought discredit upon himself, his country and the Marines. He was one of the first members of a group called IVAW, Iraqi Veterans Against the War, he has been a key figure in such far flung farcical productions as the Winter Soldiers hearings, along with being prosecuted for bringing back a gun from Iraq, classified as a war souvenir, for which he was demoted.

Several within the military blogging community are trying to get the word out to New Mexico voters and the public in general, and I support their efforts. I am embarrassed that the New Mexico Republican Party would even allow this scum to usurp the Republican label to run as a candidate. An open letter has been drafted to alert the public to just what sort of lowlife Kokesh is and to make them aware of his less then stellar credentials.

We are writing to you, to express our grave concerns about Adam Kokesh, who is aspiring to become the Republican nominee for US Congress from New Mexico’s 3rd district. Mr. Kokesh has an extensive and well-documented history of affiliations with radical leftist groups. In concert with these groups he has engaged in numerous anti-America and anti-military demonstrations and protests. Moreover, Mr. Kokesh does not appear to have any personal qualifications that would recommend him for serious consideration as a candidate for the Republican Party. He has a significant history suggestive of poor character and judgment, and he has notable incidents of direct activism against Republican office holders.

The People Must Be Stupid: Only 10% Approve of Pelosi Congress

How long until Queen Pelosi announces her retirement? You don't expect when the Democrats are back in the minority next year that you'll expect her to fly coach, do you?

Voter unhappiness with Congress has reached the highest level ever recorded by Rasmussen Reports as 71% now say the legislature is doing a poor job.

That’s up ten points from the previous high of 61% reached a month ago.

Only 10% of voters say Congress is doing a good or excellent job.

Nearly half of Democratic voters (48%) now give Congress a poor rating, up 17 points since January. The vast majority of Republicans and voters not affiliated with either party also give Congress poor ratings.

Seventy percent (70%) of voters say Congress has not passed any legislation that would significantly improve life for Americans, up 10 points over the past month and the highest level of dissatisfaction measured in regular tracking in over three years. Only 15% say Congress has passed such legislation.

The desperate media spin will be "all incumbents" are unpopular, but consider this a report card on Pelosi and her merry band of reckless spenders.

Their time has passed.

'They Said My Love Handles Saved My Life'

Turns out there's some good in lugging around an extra 75 pounds.

A Florida woman said her love handles saved her life when she was shot entering an Atlantic City bar. Samantha Lynn Frazier said she heard two pops when she walked into Herman's Place early Saturday. The 35-year-old then felt pain and saw blood on her hand after she grabbed her left side. Atlantic City police said Frazier was an innocent bystander.

Detective Lt. Charles Love said the gunman was aiming for a man who escaped with a bullet hole in his down jacket.

The suspect remains at large.

Frazier told The Press of Atlantic City that "I could have been dead. They said my love handles saved my life."

Great News: 'Paralyzing Blizzard' to Hit Northeast

Woo-hoo! More global warming coming our way here in New Jersey. At least where I'm located it may not be the worst of this bad boy, as interior sections of New York State and Pennsylvania appear doomed. I can't wait for the TV pinheads to tell us this is a result of global warming climate change.

While a snowstorm is currently underway across upstate New York and New England, the worst has yet to come for the Northeast. A monstrous storm is set to develop across the region on Thursday, unleashing damaging winds, coastal flooding and an all-out blizzard.

Unlike recent storms this winter, the dangers of the upcoming monster will not be confined to one part of the Northeast. The worst of the storm will rage from Thursday afternoon into Friday morning.

Strong winds will gust to or past 50 mph over a large portion of the Northeast, resulting in widespread tree damage and power outages.

Buildings and vehicles may also suffer damage, including from falling trees. In the hardest-hit areas, residents may remain without power for a week.

The winds will have no trouble significantly blowing and drifting the storm's heavy snow around. The snow will accumulate 1 to 2 feet over the Pocono and Catskill mountains and the mountains of northern New England.

Up to a foot of snow will bury much of New York state, northern Pennsylvania, northern New Jersey and the central Appalachians. New York City lies within this zone.

The snow will be heavy and wet near the monster storm's center. That could further make these areas susceptible to wind damage.

Cities set to be pounded by the storm's heavy snow and wind are Syracuse, Rochester, Binghamton, Williamsport, Allentown and New York City.

Residents may call the storm a "snow-hurricane" instead of a blizzard across the higher terrain of northern New England and some parts of central New York and eastern Pennsylvania. Winds here will gust to 70 mph, just shy of hurricane strength. Just to clarify, this storm is technically not an actual hurricane.

Brrr! Deep Freeze Chills Global Economy

C'mon, Al Gore, come out, come out wherever you are. Lecture us some more about this mythical global warming.

Hopes for a swift global recovery suffered a jolt yesterday as freezing winter weather contributed to a sudden drop in spending and confidence across several advanced economies.

Although policymakers predicted a bumpy rebound in global economic health, the raft of negative data in the US and Europe confounded analysts’ predictions and halted gains in equity markets.

The S&P 500 index closed 1.2 per cent down at 1,095, while the FTSE 100 index closed down 0.7 per cent at 5,315 and the Eurofirst 300 index closed down 1.1 per cent at 1,012.

Markets were most unnerved by an unexpected fall in US consumer confidence. According to the Conference Board, the global business group, Americans had turned more pessimistic about both present and future economic conditions.

'She Looks Like She Has Sausage Casing Wrapping Around Her Upper Body'

Granted, Tony Kornheiser probably shouldn't have said this on the air, but at the same time, what is Hannah Storm thinking with this outfit? Megyn Kelly could get away with this and set pulses racing nationwide, but Hannah? Please, don't do this again, OK? You're Hannah Storm, not Hannah Giles. Good concept, bad execution.

Pardon the interruption: Tony Kornheiser has been benched from "Pardon the Interruption."

ESPN has banned the print, radio and TV personality from its popular "PTI" show for biting on-air comments he made last week about SportsCenter host Hannah Storm's wardrobe.

Kornheiser, who has built a persona on caustic shots at a wide swath of sports figures, couldn't get away with turning his sights into ESPN's house – saying Storm dressed "like she has sausage casing wrapped around her body" and calling the 47-year-old anchor "a Holden Caulfield fantasy," referring to the protagonist in J.D. Salinger's book "The Catcher in the Rye."

Kornheiser opened his ESPN Radio show by briefly addressing the suspension, saying he "had made intemperate remarks, and stupid remarks, about Hannah Storm … and as a result of this I have been sent to the sidelines from PTI for a while." The suspension is expected to be a few days.

"I've said about a thousand times while doing radio in my life the following sentence: If you put a live microphone in front of somebody, eventually that person will say something wrong. This was one of the times I said something wrong," Kornheiser said. "It seems to me without any question that I broke the rules, and this is the punishment that's come."

The firestorm - just the latest sexual harassment flare-up to hit ESPN - occurred the evening after Storm had hosted the morning SportsCenter wearing a slim-fitting red sweater, a red-plaid skirt and red boots ending just below the knee.

"Hannah Storm in a horrifying, horrifying outfit today," Kornheiser said on PTI. "She's got on red go-go boots and a Catholic-school plaid skirt. … Way too short for somebody in her 40s or maybe early 50s by now. She's got on her typically very, very tight shirt. She looks like she has sausage casing wrapping around her upper body.

"I know she's very good, and I'm not supposed to be critical of ESPN people, so I won't. But Hannah Storm, Come on now! Stop! What are you doing? She's what I would call a Holden Caulfield fantasy at this point."

Classy: Liberal Twit Labels Tea Partiers as Racist, Calls Marco Rubio a 'Coconut'

Liberal racism and ignorance once again proudly on display. Consider the irony of an MSNBC/CNBC moron cavalierly accusing tea partiers of being racist with absolutely no evidence to support that assertion, then he calls Florida Senate candidate Marco Rubio a coconut, or brown on the outside and white inside. It shows how ignorant this Donny Deutsch is. If he had the slightest clue about politics he'd know Cubans in Florida have been largely voting Republican for decades. How could they not when liberals so freely associate themselves with Fidel Castro.

As pathetic as Deutsch is, how insipid is Behar? It's one thing to just be plain stupid, but how clueless can she be that she has no idea who Marco Rubio is. And she's hosting a political talk show?

Good grief, these liberals are stupid. It goes without saying Deutsch should apologize for his racist comment but I won't hold my breath. Sinking ever further into cable oblivion is probably enough punishment for him.

CBO Claims Million Jobs Saved or Created In One Quarter

Boy, these guys on Team Obama never give up, do they? Now we have the head of the CBO, that highly vaunted federal auditing and budget scoring committee, who can't score the Obama healthcare proposal, coming out and saying that anywhere from 1 million to 2.1 million jobs were saved or created in the last quarter of last year.

One problem. They don't use actual data for that statement; instead they do what the former professor and liberal think tank employee and recycled Clintonista does best. They used a model.

Stimulus contractors say they've created about 600,000 jobs directly from the spending, but the CBO uses economic modeling to reach its conclusions. That accounts for the wide range of potential job creation.

Yeah, that is what happens when you don't have any people with any actual private sector experience advising you on economic matters.

BTW, Elmendorf replaced womanizer Orszag as head of the CBO after Orszag moved on to bigger and better things in the Barry O administration, and I ain't talking about all of the women he has managed to bed and the illegitimate children he has fathered.

We are all familiar with models, aren't we. I mean, the IPCC uses them all the time to chart the gospel of climate change, and we all see how that is working out.

Stupid Criminal News: When Racial Profiling Hoax Goes Horribly Wrong

For many years the New Jersey State Police have been subject to accusations of racial profiling, many often trumped up charges used by self-aggrandizing "ministers" to promote their own agendas. In recent years cases have been few and far between, likely because the NJSP aren't profiling or are being more selective in who they pull over out of fear of being wrongfully accused and having to worry about their jobs. So it would be nice to see this story garner one-tenth the attention normally reserved for alleged cases of profiling.

Rodney Tanzymore thought he outsmarted the New Jersey State Police when he removed from his cell phone the fingernail-size electronic chip that holds personal information before dialing 911.

Then, authorities said Monday, he reported a completely fictitious scene at a New Jersey Turnpike rest stop in Hamilton Township on Nov. 21.

"Three men just hopped out of a black truck with, uh, guns ... It’s a Mercedes Benz. It’s like a van, like a passenger van," the caller said.

Responding to that call, troopers swarmed the vehicle Tanzymore and 10 other Queens teenagers were traveling in along with three chaperones and a driver. No weapons were found, and the black and Hispanic teenagers said they were humiliated and frightened when troopers ordered them out of the van one-by-one at gunpoint. The State Police, still trying to move beyond its history of racial profiling, found itself facing renewed allegations it was targeting motorists based on race.

All along the State Police suspected the call came from one of the van’s passengers, but it would take them three months to prove it. In the end, authorities said, Tanzymore was not as clever as he thought. He had assumed that by removing the personalized chip from his phone, his 911 call would be untraceable. He was wrong.

The tactic isn’t foolproof — phones still leave an electronic fingerprint, and police used that to track down Tanzymore, 19.

Just after sunrise Monday morning, six plainclothes officers knocked on the door of the yellow house with lace curtains where Tanzymore lives with his grandparents in Queens. Twenty minutes later, they led out their sleepy-eyed suspect, wearing jeans and a black jacket with his hands cuffed behind his back.

Tanzymore was charged with the third-degree crime of creating a false public alarm, which has a five-year maximum sentence. He was transported to a New Jersey jail Monday night.

"A false report such as this endangers everyone involved and is indeed a reckless act, one that our office will not tolerate," Acting Attorney General Paula Dow said in a statement. "We will prosecute this matter to the fullest extent of the law."

Good. Let's hope this punk gets the maximum, especially since he's already got a record for making bogus calls to 9/11, as the story later details, along with the litany of sob stories about what a trouble youth he is. Seems he's got some real issues if nobody else in the van was aware of his hoax at the time. Let's hope investigators have scrutinized the other passengers. They should probably also go through their calls to see how many contacted their lawyers immediately after the bogus incident.

Meanwhile, a local gadfly reverend who's always quick to make trouble seems heartbroken over this development.

The case involving the Queens teenagers struck a still-raw nerve at the intersection of race and policing. Last September the State Police emerged from 10 years of federal monitoring designed to eliminate racial profiling, but the November stop threatened to re-ignite tensions.

"This could have reopened all of those wounds," said Rev. Reginald Jackson, executive director of the New Jersey Black Ministers Council. "It’s very sad and frustrating."

Hard to tell from that quote whether Jackson is frustrated it's costing him TV face time or whether he actually feels bad for the police. I have a hunch it's the former.

U.S. Attorney May Re-open Bishop Pipe Bomb Case

Hmmm, very curious.

After two pipe bombs arrived at the Newton home of Dr. Paul Rosenberg in December 1993, a witness told investigators that Jimmy E. Anderson Jr. had said he “wanted to get back at’’ the doctor by shooting, bombing, stabbing, or strangling him, according to files released yesterday by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Sure doesn't sound like the meek, docile type he's been portrayed as.

Nothing in the files indicated whether investigators found the unidentified witness credible. But the files confirmed that Anderson and his wife, Amy Bishop, were questioned in the attempted mail bombing. The documents also provided more details about why investigators may have focused on them - although they were never charged.

Rosenberg, a Harvard Medical School professor and physician at Children’s Hospital, told investigators that weeks before the attempted bombing, he played a role in Bishop’s resignation from her job as a postdoctoral research fellow in the hospital’s neurobiology lab because “he felt she could not meet the standards required for the work,’’ according to the documents.

Rosenberg said Bishop’s co-workers felt she had “problems with depression,’’ that he thought “she was not stable,’’ and that there had been growing concerns because she had “exhibited violent behavior.’’

The case remains unsolved. But yesterday, former US attorney Donald K. Stern, who presided over the office when prosecutors oversaw the attempted mail bombing investigation, said the case should be reviewed, following Bishop’s arrest in the Feb. 12 shooting death of three of her colleagues at the University of Alabama at Huntsville.

“There’s a reason to take a fresh look because you want to make sure things were done properly,’’ Stern said. “I have no reason to believe that they weren’t, but sometimes it’s useful to take a look back because it could suggest improvements.’’

Bishop appears to be a one-woman crime wave since the mid-1980's and only now are people taking a closer look at things, or running for cover in some instances.

The files obtained yesterday by the Globe said the investigation identified “two suspects, a married couple,’’ and that one of the pair “had quit employment . . . and was reportedly upset and on the verge of a nervous breakdown, according to witnesses interviewed.’’

The names are blacked out in most of the files, but three people familiar with the investigation have confirmed on condition of anonymity that the documents refer to Anderson and Bishop. In one document, Anderson’s name is not redacted, and he is identified as the person who allegedly told a witness in 1993 that he “wanted to get back’’ at Rosenberg and wanted to “shoot him, bomb him, stab him or strangle Rosenberg.’’

The files indicate that the witness said someone had purchased a 9mm pistol years earlier, but it was unclear whom he was referring to because portions of the document were redacted.

The files reveal that federal authorities searched seven sites related to the couple. Bishop allegedly refused to open the door when investigators arrived with a warrant to search the couple’s Braintree home in April 1994, prompting them to break a window to enter.

During the search of the home and an office, investigators found items similar to those used to construct the pipe bombs, including a partially used tube of DuroMend epoxy and an Avery Dennison five-column Analysis Pad, according to the files.

However, laboratory analysis of physical evidence seized during the searches were “unable to tie any of the items’’ to the explosives mailed to Rosenberg, according to the files.

Sounds to me as if they didn't want to tie the items to Bishop and Anderson.

'It's Like They're Bringing al Qaeda Lawyers Inside the Department of Justice'

The most honest, ethical, transparent administration ever, blah blah blah.

The Justice Department's disclosure that nine of President Obama's appointees had either represented or advocated for Guantanamo detainees has touched off a firestorm of criticism.

The surprising admission came three months after Republican Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa asked Attorney General Eric Holder for a list of names of Obama DOJ appointees who had been involved in legal work for Gitmo prisoners.

Holder, in a letter to Grassley, admitted that nine of the agency's appointees had done some kind of work on behalf of terror suspects.

"To the best of our knowledge, during their employment prior to joining the government, only five of the lawyers who serve as political appointees in those components represented detainees," said Holder in the letter, which is dated Feb. 18.

Only five? Why, I feel better now know only five of Obama's appointees represented these monsters. Now if it were, say, six or seven, then I might have a problem with this insanity.

"Four others either contributed to amicus briefs in detainee-related cases or were otherwise involved in advocacy on behalf of detainees."

Holder refused to reveal the names of any of the DOJ lawyers who worked on behalf of terrorists or their positions in the department, except for two officials whose advocacy for Gitmo detainees had already been reported.

Neal Katyal, the department's principal deputy solicitor general, was once the lawyer for Osama bin Laden's driver. Jennifer Daskal, part of Obama's Detention Policy Task Force, advocated for detainees at Human Rights Watch.

Nice to see we have terrorist advocates in or Justice Department, huh?

But the revelation that the DOJ had staffers who had once backed America's enemies left many critics fuming.

"It's like they're bringing al Qaeda lawyers inside the Department of Justice," said Debra Burlingame, who lost her brother on 9/11 and a board member of the advocacy group Keep America Safe.

Long Island GOP Rep. Peter King said he was perplexed why Holder didn't reveal the names of appointees who had worked for terrorists.

A DOJ rep reiterated that no ethics codes were broken.

"The department's attorneys are subject to ethics and disclosure rules . . . which are the strongest in history," said spokesman Matthew Miller.

It's historic!

If the disclosure rules are so strong, how come we don't know their names? We pay their salaries so we deserve to know who these people are.

Behind the scenes at the new and improved ACORN office in Brooklyn. You think these folks are feeling a little disoriented ever since they've been exposed as a criminal enterprise?

"They're reinventing themselves," the source said. "The old brand is toxic, and so they have to reinvent themselves in order to apply for funding and start their operation all over again.

"They couldn't raise any money. All of their funders -- the money was dried up. All of their benefactors refused to give them funds under the ACORN banner."

The source said ACORN called a private meeting last month of friends and closely affiliated politicians to announce the makeover.

Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes launched a probe into the local ACORN branch in September after The Post revealed that two activists disguised as a pimp and a prostitute were able to solicit financial advice on starting a brothel.

Other ACORN affiliates, including offices in Baltimore, Washington and San Bernardino, Calif., were exposed in the hidden-camera sting.

A spokesman for Hynes yesterday said the investigation is ongoing.

Shortly after news of the scandal broke, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn froze all new city funds earmarked for ACORN, and state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo began investigating the grants state lawmakers have given the group.

Congress also shut off much of the group's public funds.

At the Brooklyn office yesterday, a makeshift sign let visitors know the office now belongs to New York Communities for Change.

A bizarre sign hung above a receptionist's phone read, "Warning: Do not answer phones without getting important, new directions from America. It is better to let them ring!!!"

Workers would not speak to a Post reporter, referring all questions to the spokesman.

ACORN last night released a statement saying that Bertha Lewis, who founded the labor-backed Working Families Party -- which is closely affiliated with ACORN -- is still the group's national CEO, but will not have a position in the new, local group.

They shouldn't be too concerned, however. They still have friends in low places.

Navy Grabs Eight More Suspects

The courts in New York are going to be busy if our military keeps this up.

The US Navy came to the rescue of a ship being pursued by pirates, and then captured eight wannabee Blackbeards.

USS Farragut dispatched an SH-60B Seahawk helicopter to MV Barakaale 1 after it raised a distress call saying it was under attack from a gang on a skiff, the embassy said in a statement.

"The helicopter then stopped the ... skiff as it attempted to speed away, by firing warning shots across its bow," it said.

"A boarding team from USS Farragut boarded the vessel and the eight suspected pirates were taken aboard the Farragut."

You know, if the Navy keeps this up I may have to change my opinion of them.
