Flipping the Bird Now an Art Form

Finally, some art I can appreciate.

Honestly, I find this kind of humorous. Beats Chocolate Jesus or Piss Christ.

Seriously, who out there has never flipped anyone the bird?
With their pickled sharks, unmade beds and paintings made with elephant dung, modern artists have regularly been accused of sticking two fingers up to the traditional art establishment.

But now critics say an exhibition featuring a giant inflatable hand making a similar obscene gesture has gone too far.

The so-called art work, due to go on display at Manchester's award winning Lowry art centre, features a huge balloon in the shape of a hand with it's middle finger raised.

It is part of an £20,000 exhibition designed to capture the "soul of Salford" by British artist Simon Grennan and American Chris Sperandio.

But last night locals said it was "codswallop" and a "diabolical waste of money."

Councillor Bernard Pennington, former mayor of Salford city council, said: "I do not subscribe to this so-called art, which costs a fortune.

"You will get pretentious people who will try to justify it, but this work does not mean anything to anybody. To me it is a load of rubbish and codswallop."

Julie Bates, who has lived in the city for 30 years, added: "It is a diabolical waste of money."
Grennan and Sperandio are also known as the Kartoon Kings.

here they are at Amazon.
In the art world, the name Grennan & Sperandio is known for work that is a blend of sardonic humor, sly politics, comics, and public space, and for art that gives a voice to people from all walks of life and invites them to take part in the creative process.
