Meet Faux-Bama: 'They Thought He Was the Real Thing'

Let's see how popular this guy is if Obama's approval ratings keep sinking.
He looks O, so familiar.

Maybe it's the American-flag lapel pin, or that supersized smile - or maybe it's just those ears. But the man posing for pictures outside the Grace Hotel in Midtown Wednesday was not really the nation's commander in chief, even if some European tourists were fooled.

"They thought he was the real thing," said Christian Correa, a bellhop at the hotel.

Bronx-born Louis Ortiz, 38, has been shaking hands, kissing babies, and yes, even making money in a slumping economy thanks to his uncanny resemblance to President Obama.

"It feels really good to put a smile on people's faces."

Ortiz, an out-of-work former field technician for Verizon, never dreamed a Puerto Rican kid from Morris Park could find fame and fortune as a presidential lookalike.

"Never in a million years could I imagine I could look like not just someone famous, but THE someone," Ortiz told The Post. "It's Obama. It's history. The first African-American president of the United States - and I'm a part of it."

It all started during the campaign, when a few of Ortiz's friends told him his picture was in the paper. "It was this guy Obama," said Ortiz. "The joke went on for weeks, and I thought they were just making fun of my ears. I've been hearing that since second grade."
