Texas Gov. Rick Perry's (R) high-profile prayer gathering Saturday is set to pave the way for his possible but increasingly likely late entry into the race for the Republican presidential nomination.Ooh, how ominous! Political overtones coming from a politician! Quick, hide the kids who haven't been aborted, this crazy Christian is coming!
The event, dubbed "The Response" and to be held at Houston's Reliant Stadium, is being billed as an apolitical gathering for citizens concerned about the direction of the country.
But its political overtones, which are broadcast particularly to the antennae of social conservatives, are unmistakable.
The event has drawn scrutiny from civil liberties groups, which have criticized the apparent lack of separation of church and state and are upset about some event participants' beliefs about same-sex relationships.Well, golly gee, some people don't believe in gay marriage. Must be those terrorist teabaggers we've been warned so much about.
Strange, but I don't recall the media reacting with such umbrage when Obama made racial arsonist Al Sharpton his ambassador to the black community. Doesn't he use the moniker Reverend before his name? Where were the cries about separation of church and state when Jesse Jackson ran for president?
But no, a man who's a very successful governor and poses a threat to Obama embraces religion and the media west themselves. Just pitiful.

Prayers can't hurt, but we'll need more than Divine intervention to get us out of this mess.
I'm not neccesarily a praying man, but I'd be hard pressed to think of a single weekend in this young decade where this nation could use some prayers in its behalf moreso than this one...
And then there's the late Rev. Martin Luther King. Don't we have a federal holiday in his honor, not to mention highways and biways graced with his name thoughout the land?
